Chapter 68: The Girl Who Sees Destiny (2)

“Hiccup.”

Staring blankly at the bodies lying scattered on the floor, the girl looked up at Jahun in despair.

Jahun was casually lighting a cigarette while checking to see if any of the fallen were still alive.

There shouldn’t have been any survivors.

After all, their heads had been blown apart by Jahun’s fists.

Nevertheless, those who had made pacts with demons were known for their tenacity, so he couldn’t let his guard down.

“Hey.”

“Yes, sir!”

At the sight of the petrified girl, Jahun sighed.

It must have been pretty gruesome for a kid to witness.

“Why were those guys chasing you?”

At first, he wondered if it was similar to what the Heukcheonhoe did—kidnapping children for strange purposes.

But there were far too many pursuing her.

If a child simply ran away, they would typically give up due to the hassle.

It would be quicker to just kidnap another one than to bother retrieving the escapee.

However, their behavior showed an undeniable determination to capture the girl.

They even tried to kill her when they realized they might not be able to get her back.

It was as if they believed absolutely that the girl must not fall into anyone else’s hands.

“That’s….”

The girl clenched her mouth shut, clearly indicating she couldn’t speak about it.

“Forget it, then. Go on your way.”

“…Pardon?”

“If you have nothing to say, I’ve no desire to pry. It looks like I’ve taken care of those who were after you, so escaping shouldn’t be too hard now.”

Considering the number he had killed, it would be a while before they came after the girl again.

If she got recaptured later, that was beyond his help.

Thinking about it, he felt he had meddled more than usual for him.

‘Hmm?’

Turning his back to return to Azazel, Jahun sensed the girl cautiously following him.

‘What an odd one.’

He found it humorous that she, unfazed even after witnessing such a gruesome scene, reached out to him as if grasping for a lifeline of salvation.

She would surely go back by herself once they reached Azazel.

With that thought, Jahun headed toward where his bike was parked, and there stood Azazel, still as a mannequin.

“You came.”

Azazel made no inquiry about the strange girl following Jahun.

With a flourish, Azazel turned her back and walked lightly towards them as if floating like a butterfly.

Then she brushed past Jahun and approached the girl, who was stumbling back in alarm.

“What is your name?”

“Me, my—?”

“What’s your name?”

“I’m… Su-ah. Min Su-ah.”

Azazel looked at the girl as if examining her, and the girl also scrutinized Azazel in return.

Her attire and demeanor hardly seemed ordinary.

‘Is she a Player?’

Even that wasn’t certain.

Players wouldn’t typically wear such attire so casually.

And something about her just didn’t feel human.

“Don’t scare her.”

“I haven’t scared anyone~ But if we’re taking this child too, I’ll have to return separately.”

Azazel said cheerfully, which left Jahun at a loss.

Take her where?

“I have no intention of bringing her along.”

“Really? She’s no ordinary kid, you know.”

“I’m not interested.”

Jahun said flatly and started the bike’s engine.

He truly appeared to have no concern for Su-ah.

At that point, it was Su-ah who became desperate.

“Just a moment, please, mister!”

Initially, she had been cautious of Jahun’s actions, making it hard for her to speak easily, but losing sight of him now seemed like losing the chance to ever see him again.

‘He must be the one who will change my destiny!’

After meeting him, a future that had not been set in stone began to take shape.

She was sure she had survived.

The problem was that someone who should have lived had died.

“…Mister?”

Taken aback by the term of address the girl used for him, Jahun felt inwardly uncomfortable.

“Mister,” as if he was an older brother figure—it felt awkward, especially since she looked to be only in her early teens while he was 25, not terribly old but old enough to find it uncomfortable.

“What is it?”

“I, well… I mean… please take me with you!”

“Why should I do that?”

His tone was genuinely curious.

Su-ah realized she had no choice but to reveal her ability. This man truly had no interest in her.

He had helped her, but probably only because she was a child.

In truth, Su-ah wasn’t that young.

Contrary to her youthful appearance, she was 17 and a high school student.

Either way, it was clear if she didn’t act now, he would leave her behind.
