After few minutes of Weiss volunteering, she stood in front of the cage in her regular and her weapon in hand. A growling creature could barely seen but clearly heard is hidden in the cage.
From the side her team members were cheering her.
" Goooo, Weiss!" Yang said while raising her fist in the air
" Fight well! " Black said while waving a small flag saying 'RWBY'
" Yead, represent teeeeam RWBY !" Ruby said happily
Weiss looked at RWBY and said with irritated toone " Ruby! I'm trying to focus!"
" Oh, umm…. Sorry..." Ruby said sheepishly
The professor broke the lock, dropping the cage door and revealing the Boarbatusk inside, which immediately charged at Weiss. She used Myrtenaster to deflect its attack and rolled to the side, readying herself for its next move. The Grimm stood a distance away from its enemy, studying her.
" Ha-ha! Weren't expecting that, were you? " port commented from the side
" Hang in there, Weiss! " Ruby cheered from the side.
Weiss was speeding towards the oncoming Boarbatusk, sticking her blade straight at its skull until they met and Myrtenaster was trapped in the beast's tusks. Weiss was still hanging on to the hilt, and was tossed around as she struggled to get the rapier back.
" Bold, new approach. I like it! " port commented again
" Come on, Weiss, show it who's the boss!" Ruby cheered
Weiss glared at Ruby, only for the Boarbatusk to turn its head and rip the sword from her grip. Myrtenaster landed far away from its master, who was knocked back by the creature's tusks.
"Oh-ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Port was only commenting from the side
Weiss looked up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charging again, she rolled of the way just in time to avoid getting trampled and made it crash into a desk. Weiss rushed at her sword and slided to get it back in her hand.
" Weiss! Go for its belly! There's no armor underneath- " Ruby was advicing Weiss, when Weiss interrupted her " Stop telling me what to do !"
Ruby looked hurt at Weiss' rebuttal. Meanwhile, the Boarbatusk leaped into the air and rolled into a ball, spinning rapidly in the air and landing on the ground, consistently gaining speed until it launched itself at Weiss. It came closer and closer, but Weiss activated one of her blue-white circles and blocked the roll, leaping up into the now-black snowflake symbol and turning it blue again so she could drive the blade into the Boarbatusk's stomach. It squealed and fell silent while Weiss gasped in relief.
"Bravo! Bra-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training! I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and... stay vigilant! Class dismissed!" With that Port finished the class for today
Weiss glared at Ruby then turned away, walking hurriedly to the exit past her teammates
Watching her leave, Jaune asked " Sheesh, what's with her?"
The remaining members of team RWBY looked at each other with the same question.
Weiss was storming off, but Ruby followed and caught up with her.
" Weiss " Ruby called out
" What " Weiss turned around
" What's wrong with you? Why are you being - " Ruby was about to ask about Weiss's behaviour. When Weiss interrupted her
" What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is a nuisance! " Weiss spoke rudely to Ruby
" What did I do?" Rubby scoffed
" That's just it - you've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!" Weiss continued not caring about Ruby's feelings.
" Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about working together? I thought you believed in acting as a team." Ruby tone was filled with sadness
"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss said her part and turned around when she was about to leave she heard Mesa's voice.
" Now, now Weiss. Calm now, being mean for such a petty reason is not nice " Mesa spoke casually
Weiss turned around filled with rage " A petty reason? She didn't deserve being a leader. I deserved to be one. She is nothing but a child "
Mesa didn't show any reaction to Weiss he simply said " Yup, she is a child, she lacks leadership skills and most definitely lack the necessary knowledge"
Weiss seemed to calm down a little, while Ruby lowered her, her eyes on the verge of tears.
Mesa continued " And that's why she is here, she is here to grow up, to learn how to be leader, to gain the knowledge she requires. This is the first day. You can't expect her to be a perfect leader or even be a good leader. If she had the skills and knowledge why should be here then?"
Ruby raised her head and looked at Mesa, while Weiss was about to say something but Mesa didn't allow her " You said you trained hard and worked hard. But then what about Ruby? Didn't she work and train to be here. Do you think she could be standing equally with what supposed to be elites and 2 years older than her without working hard or talent to support her?"
Ruby was feeling better, but Weiss was still angry and not satisfied with Mesa word, when she about to speak, Mesa continued " As for you, let me take a guess, you were taught by the best teachers since you were young. They taught you how to fight, how to behave, how to stand above the others. You lived your whole life to keep up with their expectation. You might say we don't know you or what you did. And that's true, we truly don't, just like how you don't know what Ruby did "
" She is too young to be here! I was born to be a leader! I worked and trained to be a leader. Not to follow a child. You are just biased !" Weiss spoke full of rage.
" I'm not biased, I can clearly see the difference between you and Ruby. If we are comparing between you and Ruby, then you have the best leading skills and knowledge. But when you lead a team consist of people you don't know, you will fail and break your team. While Ruby will succeed. Do you know why? "
" Weiss that's stupid, I know I will be a better leader. I will help them to improve and aim to be the best. Not like her" Weiss spoke again
" Exactly, that's why you will fail. You expect others to be just like you. You expect them to have your aspirations and follow you because you are the leader. I'm sure you were taught that the member follow and listen to their leader. That's not how teams operate, that is the work of army, only a soldier will follow the orders blindly. In a team, you need to be convincing, you need to be part of your team, you need to stand next to them not above them. If you truly want to be a leader in the future, then learn how to be part of your current team. You need to learn what makes the other different and accept them. If you don't want to learn how to work with them, then just leave and join the army. "
Weiss was silent, she lowered her head and walked away. Ruby was worried looking at Weiss retreating figure then she looked at Mesa, who in return just said " If you want your team to continue and not break here, you better follow her." Ruby immediately followed Weiss.
" A lier, a pedo, a gay and now an eavesdropper. Your list of negative titles growing Ozpin " Mesa looked at the corner only for Ozpin to show up.
" I thought i hid myself well." Ozpin said
" Then you suck at it, what do you want? " Mesa asked
" Nothing really, i just stumbled on miss Schnee conversation with miss Rose. So i decided to listen and give an advice if needed. Then you came, and ….. " Ozpin said
" Okay, you want to ask something. Just ask and get done with it. I don't get any enjoyment from talking to men as I'm straight, sorry if i disappointed you " Mesa interrupted.
Ozpin didn't show any reaction and asked " Don't you think you were quite harsh on miss Schnee? " Ozpin asked
" Not really, why bothering wasting her time and mine talking about this. I just gave her the direct answer. Whether she want to be a huntsman or leave. That is up to her. Personally, i think she will come back with Ruby" Mesa replied
" Why did you help them? " Ozpin asked again
" If they were to break their team, then I will lose an important source of entertainment" Mesa spoke as he thought about the future events and how team RWBY will take part of it.
With these words Mesa left Ozpin. Ozpin looked at Mesa and thought [ He got a nice side to him, but he acts like edgelord the whole time.] Ozpin mistook Mesa behaviour for having a good side, and he is trying to keep it hidden. He will find how mistaken he was in the future.
Later that day, Weiss apologized to Ruby, while Ruby Promised to work hard, to be a good leader. After that, the two decided to start all over again and work hard to be a good team. They returned to their room and told the rest of team RWBY what happened. The girls after that went to Mesa's room to thank him for his help.
With this Mesa's first day in the school was over.
