Chapter ninety seven: Do you want to tell me something?

Jamie must have dozed off because when next she opened her eyes, Alexander was gone. She lay still trying not to acknowledge the disappointment she felt about his disappearance. She simply stared at the light coming out of the window. She had a feeling she was very much naked underneath the bed sheet.

A little wave of shyness and embarrassment swept through her when she remembered how much she moan and groan during the magical moment she shared with her husband, a husband that was conveniently absent from her bed.

"I had Rachael bring your breakfast here in case you want stay in"

Jamie turned immediately to the sound of the voice. By the tooth of Thor, how can he stand in a room and she wouldn't notice for seconds! Jamie watched as he walked towards her, his footstep left no slapping noise behind, it was like he was floating.

He held the golden tray containing the food and he dropped it on the smaller table beside her. Jamie didn't fell to notice he was fully dressed in his black pant and shirt. His hair appeared freshly combed but wet. Alexander looked comfortable in his own skin as he sat down on a stool near the bed. His beautiful hazel eyes appeared to have a darker shade of blue.

"I thought you left" Jamie whispered as she sat upright, pulling the blanket with her to cover up her nakedness.

"I did but now I am back" Alexander leaned forward towards her with his face still vacant.

"Where did you go to?" Jamie's eyes darted from the food on the table to the face of the man staring at her. She was famished but she also knew it was against the etiquette of dining for a queen to eat in the solitude of her chamber.

Alexander saw the way she ogled the food on the table. He had insisted the milk be fresh and the bread taken directly from the oven. The broth looked tasty and if his wife didn't pick a side to stare at, the continuous back and front movement will make her dizzy.

Alexander stood up and picked up the tray and placed it beside her on the bed.

"I went for a swim in the river. I wasn't with Amelia" Alexander informed her.

Jamie stared at him without blinking. Can Alexander read her mind? Jamie took a piece of bread and shoved it into her mouth. Maybe Alexander had superpowers which included floating on air and reading minds.

"Can y-you read my mind?" Jamie spoke with a mouth filled with food. Alexander didn't point it out. What was the point? She was Janessa. Etiquette weren't her problem but he was worried she might choke.

"I can't read your mind but your face and body expression is transparent" Alexander stood up and poured a cup of wine and handed it over to her.

"Take a sip and don't talk while you chew"

Jamie nodded and took the cup from him. She gave it back to him when she figured out she couldn't place it on the bed without tipping it over and getting her bed wet.

For some time, she ate in silence while Alexander watched. She was becoming comfortable with his gaze and overpowering presence.

"Have you had breakfast, your highness?"

"No"

"No?" Jamie looked at her plate, half of the content was gone and she cleaned her mouth with the back of hand.

She swallowed her guilt; she should have asked the question before devouring the content of the food. The guilt on her face amused Alexander but he didn't show it.

Jamie cleared her throat before she spoke "Do you want to join me?"

"In bed or for breakfast?" Alexander acted like he had no clue.

"I guess you can sit on the bed while we eat"

Alexander climbed into bed with her and took the last bread on the plate but as he took a bite, she watched him insistently until he turned to her.

"Do you want the bread, Janessa?"

She nodded. Alexander gave it to her and watched as she finished the remaining cup of milk. He simply took the least wanted item on the tray and started eating. The broth was tasty and edible and it qualified as food. It was good enough for Alexander.

Jamie watched him as he ate. He didn't look like the formidable king she attacked with a blade, weeks ago. He looked relaxed without the usual weary shoulders. Merely looking at him, he looked nothing like a king but an easy going middleclass lad eating breakfast with his wife with no regards to rules.

Jamie coughed to get his attention but Alexander ignored it. She looked at him eating his broth without paying any attention to her. She coughed again.

"Janessa, is something stuck in your throat or do you want to ask me something?" Alexander dropped the spoon he was holding to ask her.

"A question...I have a question"

"Can I at least keep eating my breakfast while you ask?" Alexander looked at her.

"Okay"

He picked up his spoon and resumed his meal while Jamie thought of a way to ask her question.

"Will I always...cry when we...hmm" Jamie scratched her head and searched for the correct word for what transpired between them earlier.

Alexander took a last bite from the broth and dropped the spoon.

"I have no word either for what we did but there is nothing wrong with your reaction, afterwards"

"It is embarrassing sobbing like a little child whenever I am with my husband"

Alexander had no idea why his heart did a joy flip but it was the first time she had referred to him as her husband.

"Darling, it is a compliment to me...your tears. And I don't think you will always be overwhelmed"

"Do you still have need for Amelia and the rest of your mistresses....how many do you even have?" Jamie threw her hand in the air for dramatic effect.
