If Sai Giri had to describe himself, then it would be a car wheel. He was worn out, stressed and unappreciated. Sai was more worn out than a car tire that drove all across the United States.

In a plain cubicle, Sai was typing away on his computer. He yawned tiredly. He looked at the time. He realized he was supposed to have left hours ago. However, he was stuck with work that would take months to finish and squeezed into one week.

Sai rubbed his eyes. He could already imagine his team lead yelling at him for not finishing his work. They were also losing other coworkers and now he had picked up the slack. He was practically doing three people's work.

Sai saved his work and started to shut off his computer. He looked around the other cubicles. The office was empty.

His mind was exhausted. As he was leaving, he had a sad thought. They weren’t paying him what he was worth, no they were paying him how much it cost to replace him.

Sai says tiredly, “I really need a vacation.

----

“What the?!” Sai blurted out. He was lying on a hard smooth surface. His mind felt funny. He looked around the room. It was temple-like, with marble floors and three giant woman statues standing at the far end of the room.

A large crowd of onlookers wearing medieval clothes were standing against the far wall.

While people around him, who were wearing more modern clothes, were in the center of the large room.

“Jesus Christ!!”

“Where are we?!?”

“Huh, who are you people!”

“Where the hell are my pants!”

An old man carrying a staff hit the ground a few times. “Quiet down! Quiet down!” He commanded. The crowd slowly calmed down.

The old man approached the group. Then started talking,“Big welcome Heroes. I am the Archbishop of the Fairy Religion. You may call me Father Pietro. The Fairy Religions who worship the Great Fairies who love and cherish humanity. The Great Fairies are the judge, jury and executions of the people in this world. It is imperative that you follow the Holy Scriptures so you don’t offend the Great Fairies. Now then let me tell you my favorite story in the Holy Scripture. There once was an old man with his grandchild and donkey. They were traveling...”

Sai got up once and then sat down, he realized this was going to take awhile.

Sai already watched enough anime to know he was isekai. Or transported to another world. He checked his pockets and pulled out his smartphone. To his dismay no wifi or cell signal.

Everyone had numbers above their heads. The people with modern clothes had the number 1. While everyone's numbers varied greatly, the priests were number 5. The knights were at least 20 or greater. There was one regal woman with silver hair having the number 60 above her head.

“Enough with this nonsense!” A teenager yelled. “What are we doing here!”

Archbishop Pietro coughed twice, he then said. “Pardon me, Heroes. Demons will invade our world and slaughter the human race. The Great Fairies have summoned you heroes to protect humanity from the Demons,” He moved his hands in sweeping motion to the group standing in the corner. “These are representatives of each Nation, they will help and train you to become great heroes to protect the human race.”

The representation of Nation looked regal and some gave kind smiles and small bows.

Archbishop Pietro slammed his staff again. “First we need to evaluate the Gift you were given by the Great Fairies. Please allow the priest to inspect your Gift.”

There was a lot of yelling around me. While a group of Priests came over to talk to us.

I was still sitting, when the priest came over to me. “Greeting Hero, I am Father Decarlos of the Fairy Religion. May I have your name?”

“My name is Sai,” I gave him a small nod.

“Nice to meet you Sai. Give me a moment," Decarlos eyes started to glow. "Your Gift is Sour Apples... Since your new to this world, you can say Blessing and a window should appear.”

“Blessing.” Sai says loudly. A blue window showed up.

“What does the gift Sour Apples do?” Sai asks Father Decarlos.

“Well some are self-explanatory like Heroes Fire Affinity and Weapon Mastery. Your gift hasn’t been recorded in history,” Decarlos said. “You can look at the description by concentrating on the Blessing Window.”

Sai concentrates on his Gift.

Sour Apples.
Description: Super sour apples. Increase Durability by one point.

Sai just continued to look at the description. Then he looked at Father Decarlos. Then he shook his head. “I have many many questions now.”

Decarlos looked happy, “I am happy to answer any questions.”

“Archbishop! We have found the Sword Saint!” Another bishop yelled out excitedly. Father Decalos looked surprised and looked over to the priest. Who is standing in front of a pretty boy with blond hair and blue eyes.

Others were making a ruckus and going toward the teen.

Clap. Clap.

I sighed and clapped my hands twice to get Father Decalos attention. “Alright, what do the words and numbers in the Blessing Window represent?”

Father Decalos started to explain. “Let's start with the concept of Level. It represents the amount of glory a person accumulated, and by advancing to higher levels, one can earn points. The number of points awarded per level remains fixed. Most individuals may earn only 1 point per level. While the most blessed individuals may receive 10 points per level. These points can be used to enhance one of five attributes: Agility, Durability, Mana, Mind, and Strength.”

Sai nodded his head. Since he was Level 1 he assumed he was seeing the current level of a person above their head. Father Decarlos was most likely Level 5. It was very video gamey...

Sai then asked. “So how do we increase our level? Killing monsters to gain experience?”

“You gain GLORY by killing hostile races. You receive no glory killing humanoid races like Elves, Dog Tribesmen, or the heaven sent divine Fairies. Meanwhile Horned Dogs and Magic Beast are to be hunted and exterminated for glory. When you accumulate a certain amount of glory, you Level up,” Father Decarlos explained.

Sai had postulated that glory is the same as experience in a video game. “Does the amount of glory to Level up increase the higher the level you are.”

Father Decarlos nodded his head happily. “You are very quick to catch on, Yes it does take more glory to level up the higher the level you are. Do you have any other questions?”

Sai gave a sheepish smile and started to ask a barrage of questions.

----

When you become an adult, you realize the world isn’t fair. While some people were given powerful gifts like Sword Saint or Triple Glory. He was stuck with Sour Apples.

Sai was given a room to himself. It seems he was waiting for the representative to discuss which Nation each Hero was heading to.

The room was plain with no furniture other than the bed and desk table. A pitcher of milk and a soft basket of bread was on the table.

Sai was contemplating his life. Mostly about his past.

When Sai thought about his past, he had so many regrets. In hindsight if he knew he was going to be isekai, he wouldn’t have worked overtime and or even on the weekend. His greatest regret, while he was working during the Holiday, his team leader and manager were taking a fun and relaxing vacation! Sai had so many many many regrets. He rubbed his forehead. “Why was life so unfair?”

He sighed and activated his gift. Sour Apples, three yellow apples appeared in thin air and fell on the bed.

They looked pristine, the apples even looked juicy.

Sai took a bite. It tasted like solid salt or if anger was transmuted into a fruit. “This is awful!” Sai spatted out. He was hopeful that he would get an increase in Durability by eating this awful tasting fruit.

“Blessing!” Sai says loudly. A blue window showed up.

His stomach dropped, Sai looked at the Sour Apple in his hand. He probably needed to eat more of the apple to get its effect. “I hate my life.”

Sai forcefully started to eat the Sour Apple. Each bite tasted worse than the last. It was like the sourness tasted piled up each bite. He ate most of the Sour Apple, until only the core was left.

”That was literal torture,” Sai wiped out his saliva. “Blessing!”

Sai didn’t know to be jumping in joy or crying in a fetal position. On one he had a cheat. On the other hand, it required eating the incarnation of an unholy angry fruit.

Two sour apples remained, both looked positively revolting. Sai already ate the apple's sibling, Now he thought the angry fruit were planning for revenge. “...I will save you for later, when I hate myself so much that I want to suffer.”

Sai pocketed the two angry fruits.

Someone barged into the room. A knight with a blue gem emblem with a white background on his chest. “Come! The Princess has summoned you.”

----

The knight rushed him outside. Where Sai witnesses a tent city, or a renaissance faire.

There must have been over thousands of knights and other servants moving around the area.

The knight that was escorting him led him to a large tent with the same white background and blue gem symbol that was on his chest.

A beautiful woman was waiting for them.Whom Sai guessed was the princess. The woman had silver hair and was wearing a black dress with frills. The Princess was level 60. The highest level Sai encountered in this world.

The knight gave a deep bow. Not daring looking at the Princess. “I have brought the Hero your highness.”

“He needs to be taught manners,” The Princess commented. “Have him kneel!”

Someone grabbed both of Sai's shoulders and forced him to his knees. “Hey, not so rough!” He protested. "I bruise easily!"

The Knight Commander was holding him down. “Don’t move, you dumb fool.” The Knight Commander was holding Sai down with an iron grip.

“That’s an improvement,” the Princess said. “I am the ruler of the Sapphire Principality. I am your new master. That means if you displease me, then you will face dire consequences.”

Sai grimaced. he tried to move but the old knight that was holding down wouldn’t allow him to. “What do you want from me princess?”

“Hero,” She said in a mocking way, “You can’t give me what I desire. Your only a burden.”

----

Two weeks have passed since Sai was summoned to this world.

The Sapphire Principality showed him their endless generosity by having Sai locked up in an iron caged wagon with a lovely straw bed.

For his meals it was gourmet, hard bread and water.

Sai was starting to hate life. Not because he was treated like a prisoner. No it was because he forced himself to eat the torturous Sour Apples.

Everyday he ate one Sour Apple. You would think after two weeks of eating the incarnation of anger he would have gotten used to it. No it did not, each bite was like biting hardened salt. Drinking water made it worse, the terrible taste spreading on his taste buds.

Sai needed to mentally prepare himself to eat the Sour Apple. His body would stiffen when trying to eat the incarnation of anger shapes as an apple. He could only summon Three Sour apples a day. Which he guessed was a waste since he could only stomach eating one.

The Sour Apples were his cheat that would open his road to freedom. However it was becoming one of the most hated things in the world.

Sai checked his status. “Blessing”

Sai was miserable, he sighed and looked at his company. “At least I am not a knight,” Sai said at least a hundred times on his journey.

The knights had to walk the entire journey with armor, bags and weapons. Some unlucky knight needed to stay up all night and protect the wagons while everyone else went to sleep.

Compared to how the knights were treated, Sai was treated like a guest of honor.

The mages had better treatment than him though. Sai was disappointed they didn’t wear robes like he imagined, the wizard wore heavy fur coats. They also carried staffs and shields.

Sai had a lot of time to reflect on his life. How messed up was his life, that it was an improvement to be a prisoner? He noticed he could sleep late. He wasn’t stressed about the next deadline on a project. The pressure of society and responsibility was lifted from his shoulders.

Sai didn’t delude himself, in exchange he lost his freedom. The food was plain. Life was very dull. The Sour Apples can go to the deepest darkest pit of hell.

Sai could see a large medieval kingdom, a blue gem emblem proudly hung on the walls.

If it was a beautiful kingdom. Sai's heartbeat quickened looking at the scenery that could have been an art piece. “Why hello Sapphire Principality,” Sai whispered faintly.

----

The Sapphire Principality walls were tall and made of white polish stone, honestly it was impressive how tall it was. You would need to crane your neck and you couldn’t see the top edge.

The streets were clean and made out of brick stones. The stores and home were of old european architecture. He could imagine a European country having stores like these. Now that Sai thought about it, sometimes old building structures exist like these to the modern day.

The civilians looked happily at the Princess army. Children were excited and ran with the carriage and the marching knights.

The scenery was a nice change of pace from the forest and grass plains.

Sai would honestly visit this place, if only he wasn’t locked behind bars.

----

The Royal Palace was ginormous. It was indeed beautiful and Sai wouldn’t be surprised if the place was decorated in gold.

However it wasn’t the beauty or the artistic design that stuck him. The Royal Palace of the Sapphire Principality was freakishly big. A small town could be built here.

Sai wasn’t even surprised when he was led to an area where a large number of knights were training. The army could fit in the Palace with no problem.

“Hero. Come out,” The Knight Commander said, banging on the iron bars of the caged carriage. The Knight Commander was level 40 and looked old and fierce.

The cage door was open and Sai walked out. He looked out into the sun and enjoyed looking into the blue sky.

“Commander, the Enslaving Cuff are ready,” A servant said. Iron Cuffs were handed to the Knight Commander.

“What are those for,” Sai could already tell what was going to happen.

The Knight Commander gave a stern look at Sai. “Give me your hand.”

Sai could tell those iron cuffs were magical. All of his freedom will be gone.

Sai bolted away. Before he could make a few feet to escape. He was tackled to the ground hard, his face digging to the grassy floor. “You little shit!” The Knight Commander held him down.

“LET ME GO YOU BASTARD!!” Sai yelled and struggled; he wasn't going to be enslaved without a fight. “YOU BASTARD!! LET ME GO!!”

Sai was lifted a little and then roughly slammed roughly into the grass. He could already feel the blood rushing down his nose. “WHY GOD DAMMIT! WHY!!”

Tears were already streaming down Sai's face. He felt the cold iron cuffs going around his wrist and sealing his arms. He felt the iron cuff going around his ankles and sealing his legs. He felt the cold iron cuffs going around his neck and sealing his neck.

“Tough shit this one,” The Knight Commander said as he stood up from Sai back.

“Stand up servant,” A feminine voice commanded.

Sai looked over and saw the princess. “GET AWAY FROM ME!”

Sai got up and started to run away like a wounded animal.

A painful acid coursed through his body. Sai's body dropped on the ground and converged painfully.

'The iron cuffs!' Sai's mind screams, he's looking at the dark energy emanating from the iron cuffs on his wrists.

Sai's entire body was hurting badly, the pain coming from the cuffs were spreading.

Sai saw the Knight Commander and princess standing over him. The princess was saying something.

Sai didn’t know if it was important or not. He decided it didn’t matter. He was a slave to the princess.

His body and mind couldn’t withstand the pain. Sai lost consciousness.

----

Sai woke up in a small bed in a small room.

“Hhhhhiiiisss,” He moaned pitifully. His body could feel the phantom pains coursing through his body. His hands caressed the cold cuff around his neck and then moved to touch the cold cuff around his wrist.

He looked up at the ceiling. It was wooden, he continued staring at the ceiling. The entire two weeks was repaying in his head until he came to a conclusion. “Would it be better if I died?”

Sai looked at his wrists, the iron cuffs sealed his freedom. “What’s the point of living if only suffering awaits me?”

Sai didn’t have an answer. He summoned three Sour Apples. He picked one up and started to take a small bite. The unforgiving sourness assaulted his tongue. “These apples taste ungodly awful.”

Sai felt some heat boiling in his guts. He viciously took a large bite of the Sour Apple. Tears were streaming down his face. “I.. I hate them...”

Sai finished one apple, There were still two more Sour Apples left on the bed. His hands trembled as he took the second apple.

Sai took a bite and nearly spit out the apple chuck from his month. He nearly emptied his stomach with how awful it tasted. Sai forced himself to control his body and swallowed the sour fruit. He gritted his teeth and finished the second Sour Apple.

“I hate them,” Sai said like a mantra. The third and final apple took nearly all of Sai's willpower to finish.

“Blessing,” Sai commanded.

Sai stared at the Blessing Window. He recalled what each word meant.

Agility is how fast a person can move.

Durability, how much power is needed to damage a person.

Mind is linked to a person's memorization and other esoteric thoughts.

Strength reflects how physically strong a person is.

Mana is how much fuel you have to perform magic.

Remaining Points, these represent points that are given each level up and can be used to increase one of the five numerical attributes.

Sai moved three of his Remaining Points to his Strength.

Sai pulled on the iron cuff around his neck. The Iron cuff didn’t break or stretch. Even with his improved strength

Sai only had one goal in his mind. “I need to escape this hell.”
