Chapter 27 – Worship

“Lord Marquis, the Nord family has sent two giant Sun Elephants,” the steward in Marquis’ Mansion reported to the Marquis of Lanling, who was grooming himself in front of a mirror.

“Bang!” The Marquis slammed his dressing table, and suddenly, the hard, fire-burnt wooden table and everything on it turned into dust.

“Little brat of the Nord family, I will tear you apart limb from limb,” the Marquis screamed, his face twisted in anger.

The steward shrank his neck in fear, then shouted in unison with the Marquis, “Lord Marquis, I’ll have someone slaughter those two giant Sun Elephants right away.”

The Marquis had calmed down by now. He took out a silk handkerchief and wiped his hands, pondering something. After a moment, he spoke again, “Killing them would be a shame. Giant sun elephants are valuable fourth-order magical beasts, worth tens of thousands of gold coins. Keep them.”

“Yes, Lord Marquis,” the steward received the order and quickly went out to have the two giant Sun Elephants brought into the mansion.

“Hmph, a little kid who’s still wet behind the ears. Trying to provoke me and make me the laughingstock of the capital. You’re still too green,” the Marquis coldly snorted.

At this point, the Marquis thought of the burly man next to Qi Bei, his tough body, and twisted muscles, and the more he thought about it, the more uncontrollable his desire became.

The Marquis went to the bookshelf in the room and pressed a certain mechanism, causing the bookshelf to slide open on both sides.

A shocking scene appeared. Inside the bookshelf was an embedded rectangular metal cabinet, with a row of puppet-like burly men inside.

“Xiao Liu.” The Marquis’ gaze swept around and stopped on the sixth burly man, poking him in the forehead.

The man’s closed eyes suddenly opened, a black light flashing across them, revealing a beast-like aggression. He growled in a low voice and pounced at the Marquis.

Then a scene followed that showed the strong emotional bond that was evident between them!

Nord Family Mansion, Qi Bei’s courtyard.

The stars were twinkling in the sky. Within the small but elegant courtyard, Feng Ruoyu supported her chin with her hand, her emerald green eyes sparkling, occasionally exclaiming.

Huan Ying sat quietly beside her, her beautiful eyes following Qi Bei’s pacing figure, her expression sometimes tense, sometimes relaxed.

Qi Bei walked back and forth in the courtyard, telling the thrilling story of his adventures in the Undead Mountain Range.

“At this point, I was surrounded by tens of thousands of undead creatures, with no way out, and my life was hanging by a thread.” Qi Bei stopped suddenly as he spoke up till here.

“And then, and then?” Feng Ruoyu who was listening eagerly urged him on.

“If you want to know what happened next, tune in for the upcoming episode,” Qi Bei clapped his hands and laughed.

“Brother Qi Bei, please finish this part first.” Feng Ruoyu bounced up and down, holding onto Qi Bei’s arm and acting cute.

“It’s late, I’ll tell you tomorrow. Your sister is here to pick you up.” Qi Bei smiled and pointed outside the pavilion.

Feng Ruoyu turned her head to look and saw her sister and Huai’an standing not far away, smiling at them.

The two sisters went back to a courtyard arranged by the Nord family to rest, while the two brothers drank a little wine on a rockery.

“Big brother, you have a smile on your face, come clean, did something inappropriate happen between you and my future sister-in-law?” Qi Bei teased with a smirk.

“Get lost, what nonsense is in your head?” Huai’an scolded, but he was grinning from ear to ear.

“Big brother, the things in my head were all taught by you.” Qi Bei laughed. When Huai’an was a teenager, he was a delinquent, and Qi Bei remembered him telling stories about things between men and women.

Huai’an chuckled and looked at Qi Bei for a while, vaguely remembering their childhood. Back then, Qi Bei would follow him around with a runny nose while he fought, chased girls, and caused trouble.

He thought he would protect Qi Bei for the rest of his life.

But things were unpredictable, this mischievous kid matured and grew up in the trials of life and death. Not only was his strength comparable to his own but his every word and action was shining with a different light.

“You brat, you’ve grown up.” Huai’an suddenly patted Qi Bei’s shoulder, picked up the wine jug, and poured it out. In his heart, there was a faint sense of loss, but more of it was contentment.

Qi Bei’s heart suddenly felt heavy, that pat from his big brother contained too much brotherly affection.

An older brother is like a father!

If before, Huai’an’s overprotectiveness for him only existed in memory, the feeling wasn’t that deep yet. But in the army camp, because of a sentence he said, this big brother didn’t hesitate to swing his sword and cut off the head of Princess Rui Xue’s maid. Thinking about it now, Qi Bei’s heart felt warm.

“Big brother, tomorrow I want to pay my respects to mother.” Qi Bei said.

“Okay, big brother will accompany you tomorrow.” Huai’an nodded.

The two brothers drank under the moon, reminiscing about the past and discussing the current situation as well as the hidden meanings behind certain actions.

Of course, it was Huai’an who guided the conversation.

As one of the three commanders of the Black Armor Army and the legitimate heir of the Nord family, he had access to some deep secrets.

Qi Bei listened attentively, as he was about to go to his own fiefdom, West Spirit City, and what Huai’an told him would be very useful.

Unknowingly, dawn had arrived and the stars disappeared.

Qi Bei’s mother was buried in the ancestral cemetery of the Nord family, located in the western suburbs of the imperial city. Only the legitimate heirs and wives of the Nord family could be buried there.

The mother of the two brothers was named Lilith and she was not a member of the Golden Leaf Dynasty. According to their father, she came from a distant country.

A lifelike portrait of Lilith was embedded on the tombstone. She was extremely beautiful with a clean and radiant smile, like the warm sun in early winter.

It could be seen that Qi Bei inherited more of his mother’s features and was very handsome.

His older brother, Huai’an, on the other hand, resembled their father with clear contours and a compelling aura.

At the moment when Qi Bei saw his mother Lilith’s portrait, his heart suddenly trembled. Even though they were separated by life and death, he could still feel the unbreakable blood relationship in his heart. This feeling was much stronger than when he saw his father, Raymond Nord.

After performing the ceremony, Qi Bei said to Huai’an, “Big brother, you can go report to the army camp first. I want to stay here for a while.”

Huai’an patted Qi Bei’s shoulder and left the cemetery.

Qi Bei leaned against his mother’s tombstone and slowly closed his eyes. For some reason, he felt as if his mother was gently embracing him. This feeling was very warm and made him feel nostalgic.

In his past life, he was an orphan who grew up in an orphanage and he had to rely on himself. He didn’t even know who his parents were.

But in this life, he had at least seen his mother’s face.

Suddenly, the faint golden internal energy in Qi Bei’s dantian trembled. He felt as if he had been branded with a hot iron on his back, and the Dragon Seal in his left palm began to surge with golden light. Another kind of golden light appeared and the two merged together.
