Suspiciously clean with not a speck of dust on my dress, I stood in front of a larger door, the king of this country right by my side, but not too close to me.

He was strangely friendly and even opened the door for me leading towards a huge dining room with a rather long table.

But instead of all family members being there, I could only see two teenagers, one girl and one boy around the same age.

“Lu…cy?” The boy I knew under the name of Gregory asked right away. “I mean, your majesty … I wasn’t aware who you were back then.”

“Don’t worry about it, Gregory. I have chosen to hide my real identity, so it is me who is to blame, not you.” I assured and lowered my head a little.

“So she is the new queen?” The teenage blonde haired girl  around seventeen asked brazenly, probably not even caring about my opinion of her.

“Indeed I am. Please, do call me Lucy. Both of you.” I said and took the seat at the head of the table, right next to Charles who sat right beside me and Gregory, sitting in front of me.

“Kay. Your late dad. And why are you so red?” She had the behaviour of a spoiled brat, but I had to admit she was more perceptive than the usual human.

“We … we had to hurry on our way here honey. I slept a little bit longer than usual. Lucy, this is my daughter Juliette and this is Gregory. Those to are my most promising children, so I wanted to introduce you to them right away.” Most promising? Gregory? Sure, he did get the best marks in anything magic related from his whole year, but his character was … questionable. And Juliette didn’t seem that far off from someone who liked to fool around.

“Can we start now? I’m kind of hungry.” Juliette complained and clapped her hands. A few other doors were opened right away and servants carrying plates with all kinds of stuff entered.

“So … you are friends with Louis, right?” Gregory asked, which did surprise me a little. Surely he would want to avoid this topic considering he basically told me to stay away from him.

“I am.” I admitted, wondering where this would lead.

“Who is Louis? Is that your boyfriend?” Juliette asked, suddenly very interested in the conversation.

“… he is our brother.” Gregory said a bit stunned before I could do so. I honestly didn’t know what was going on at this point, and was rather thankful for their servants who put a plate with fluffy bread, butter and marmalade in front of me.

“Did your mother sleep with another man again?” Charles asked making me look over towards him even more confused.

“He is your son, father.” Gregory said carefully.

“Oh.” In what kind of family did I marry into? How much of a wreck was their relationship if they didn’t even know his name? I knew that Louis’ mother was a maid, but this was still a bit over the top. And none of the other two seemed to bother a bit, except Gregory who was also kind of stunned.

“Anyways … I wanted to ask if you select the heroes who will attack the demon lord.” When … when did my plans leak? Did I make any mistakes somewhere? Maybe because I revealed myself just as Schwarz was imprisoned? No, that couldn’t be it. Maybe he just assumed I would do so because I was the saint? He was a reincarnator after all, so it was hard to gauge what was normal for them.

“Oh, please brother. You can wield your flashy magic all you want, but you are no hero.” Juliette said, her mouth full with a lot of bread and salami.

“I will be one, you can be sure of that.” Gregory said a bit angrily and stabbed the fork in his hand into the scrambled egg on his plate.

“Yeah. Die for your childhood dream, that’s a great idea.” Juliette said, which honestly made me wonder how much she knew. Thinking back a little, I thought about her name and wondered who of the two Juliette Worchesters she was.

“Excuse me Juliette, but do you have a second name?” I asked out of the blue, quite curious if she was the person I assumed her to be.

“Eh? No …” She said and looked away from me embarrassed.

“She doesn’t like to be called like to be called Emilia.” Charles said, and revealed who this person really was. It was highly likely she was a reincarnator as well, as she could turn nearly any non living matter into another non living matter.

If she wanted, she could get filthy rich with this ability. It was no wonder why the king chose to invite her to this breakfast.

“I think it’s a cute name.” I said, but directly earned her ire.

“Thank you, mum.” She said sarcastically which did put me off quite a bit.

“Don’t be like this to her. She is the one the gods selected to guide us.”

“You have read to many novels. She is clearly just a kid.” Juliette complained loudly and threw a bit of salami in his direction.

“Actually, I am over two hundred years old.” I said meekly as the two teenagers started throwing bits of food at each other.

“And how long did you lay in coma?” Juliette asked, right as she hit Gregory with a bit of marmalade which seemed to settle the issue between them.

“Coma … in the sense of being brought in front of the gods so that they could give me directions.” I said and furrowed my brows a little. Was she testing me, or was she just unruly? I couldn’t tell.

“And what did they tell you? That you need to select your heroes very carefully? That they will protect you from the demon lord coming for your head?” Nope, it was obviously that I needed to eradicate every human I knew on this planet so that a family I had married into could never exist again.

“Juliette, it’s enough.” Charles said, putting his daughter off somewhat.

“Kay. Well then, I’m off. See you tonight dad.” She said, stood up after flinging a bit of salami off her shoulders and saluted towards me sloppily before walking towards the door.

“Tonig…” I muttered, honestly a bit shocked by her words.

“She was just fooling around … like always.” The king said. Honestly, if I didn’t have the ability to pick out lies from the truth, I wouldn’t be so sure at this point.

“Yeah, I would never do that with my dad.” She admitted while looking at Gregory with a haughty smile on her lips before closing the door behind her.

“Hey, Lucy … regarding the hero selection. What are the criteria?” Gregory asked which made both of the king and me look really strangely at him.

“I am not sure what you are talking about if I’m honest. Would you care to explain?” I asked and tilted my head a little bit.

“Well so … in the novels I read, it was either the gods or some holy figure who picked out a few select people to … to fight the demon king.” It was true that I was planning to do exactly that, but he made it out as if this group would fight the demon king on their own, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

“I am not an expert in strategy … but wouldn’t it make sense to mobilise a larger force instead of constraining yourself to a few select who might be viewed as heroes afterwards?” I asked a bit interested in his logic.

“I … I guess so? But … but it’s always just a small group!” He exclaimed, clearly not taking well that I didn’t fulfil his wishes right away.

“Gregory … it’s enough.” Charles said while shaking his head in embarrassment.

“I … I’m sure you will change your mind.” Gregory said, stood up and bowed towards the two of us. He left in utter silence, his plate half empty and quite the mess. Looking downwards, I noticed that I hadn’t eaten anything so far and picked up my fork right away.

“You must excuse my children. They aren’t like this usually.” Really? So it was just now that their character shone through?

“I see.” I muttered, slowly eating myself through everything on my plate until I was halfway done.

“Soo …” He said and made a very awkward pause. “What are you doing today?”

“That my dear, is a secret.” I explained with a slight smile on my lips.

“Oh? Really? We are married. You can tell me everything.” Even Aska didn’t know everything about me, and he had created me and was with me for the vast majority of time.

“Even a couple does have secrets. And just so you know, I do not like being followed.” I admitted and smiled a bit mischievously.

“Alright … will you come back tonight?” Stopping just before the fork went into my slightly opened mouth, I looked over towards him a bit stunned.

“I have no more favours to ask at the moment.” I explained and placed the fork back onto the plate after putting the bread into my mouth.

“That’s cold … even though we had so much fun.” He had fun. I merely read his lips and did everything he wanted for more than an hour straight. He didn’t even have the stamina to continue all the way through, but didn’t want to admit to it either.
