Oh, gosh, how much did I love ripping out his organs with my blunt weapon that was once a sword. Aska´s mutilated corpse lay in front of me, a completely ripped open belly and a missing head. Grinning madly, I swung the sword down once more, severing an arm in the process.

“Ahh ~” Murdering the god of death was always a great experience, especially when I had the time to enjoy it. After exactly ten  seconds though, I twirled around and blocked another sword strike with my nicked sword. Aska stood in front of me, even though I had just murdered him. Sadly, a god was always able to piece itself together on the spot except one was killed with a god-slaying weapon – one I didn’t have.

“346 to 345 …. we are already battling for over two years. How long do you want to continue?” He said while pressing against my sword with his full strength. Honestly, I did expect more, but gods were incredibly reliant on their magic to support their strength showing once again that their body was just a vessel.

“Until anyone of us wins.” I grinned and pushed against his blade as well.

“Fine.” He said, stepped back and swung his sword once again. Sparks flew everywhere as we battled it out to the 691th time. This time, I sadly had to eat mud as my sword broke in two.

“346 to 346.” I muttered as I woke up again after getting deprecated by him. Just like him, my body regenerated no later what after all.

“Isn´t it enough already?” He said quite groggily.

“No, I love slaughtering you~ and after a few seconds, you are always back~” I sung, gripped a knew sword and stood up happily. Once again, sparks flew and even set the last palm tree on fire that survived our fight. We had levelled the whole island already, including out house which sadly had to explode as I tried to use the stove to burn his hands for once, killing us both in the process.

“You´re sick.” He commented drily as I rammed my sword into his heart, only losing an arm in the process.

“Sadly, you love degenerate freaks.” I giggled loudly and pulled the sword up to his shoulder until I broke the bone. I knew he wasn’t finished with that alone, so I turned around on my toes like a ballerina and beheaded him using my momentum. Breathing out happily, I picked up my arm from the ground and held it back onto the stump that was my shoulder. It took quite a few seconds to reattach, but even then, I still had two seconds left.

Closing my eyes, I started to feel my surroundings. Doing so was an incredibly weird experience, mostly because I was sometimes completely overburdened by all the information crashing into my soul, and sometimes I didn´t feel anything at all. Still, this time I sensed how death itself returned into its body and threw my sword directly at it.

With satisfaction, I noticed how the sword flew through the air like a boomerang and stabbed into Aska´s head cleanly.

“I win!” I threw my arms into the air. Laughing loudly, I danced around in a circle until Aska appeared right in front of me. This time I didn´t feel anything, but that may have been because I wasn’t concentrated enough. Either I was flooded by death itself like I was while I drowned, or I needed to concentrate really hard to sense something outside my own soul … and even then I wasn’t guaranteed to find anything.

“Congratulations.” He said dryly, but I could see how he gnashed his teeth in anger shortly afterwards. “You sensed me, didn´t you?”

“Aye!” I said and saluted with a peace sign. Stabbing a corpse couldn’t count as a win for me, so he had to return into his body first. Then I would be able to kill him again and count it as my win.

“Hmm … I think it is time to start teaching you for real then.” He muttered and sat down on the ground.

“What? Instant death magic?” I asked, incredibly hopeful about snipping with my fingers and killing hundreds of humans at the same time.

“That´s only possible in cooperation with Irminsul. Our domain is death, and death alone. The creatures of the night are my servants, vampires, ghouls, liches, zombies, living skeletons. Everything that is undead bows to me. You still need to go a long way for that. First off, we start with something simple … at least I hope it is something simple.” Once again, I was entirely sure he was the worst teacher I could get. “Rise.” He said in the language I knew since I was born and waited a few seconds.

Only then did I realize he did something magical. Hundreds and hundreds of souls, stripped off their memories, appeared from the ground as the little blue balls we usually used as lamps. As if they heard a song or similar, they all danced around Aska, twirling around his limbs in delight. Only after several minutes did they shoot up into the sky and then off towards the horizon.

“If you don’t do anything with these dead souls, they will find a new vessel to live, be it an ant, a fish, or other newly born creatures. It´s always beautiful to see, isn`t it?” It surely was. This was the best lightshow I ever experienced after all.

“It is … you opened a gate to purgatory?” I asked in doubt.

“Hmm … it is more like I am calling them towards me. And now you.” He said, while I could only frown speechlessly for a little while.

“Me?” I pointed towards my chest awkwardly. “No tips, advice or I don’t know, an instruction manual?” I asked, still quite unsure if he meant that for real.

“Nope. Just do it.” He said and smiled brightly.

“Rise.” He blinked a few times after I said that and then frowned like I did. No souls were rising from the ground. Not a single one.

“I don’t understand why this isn´t working.” I tilted my head in utter amazement at his statement. Either he did take too many drugs after I killed him last time, or … what else could it have been?

“Are you for real?” I asked and squinted my eyes.

“Yeah, I really expected this to work.” He said and let his shoulders hang low.

“… just give me a book about it and I teach myself.” I said while shaking my head in frustration. Aska was really the worst teacher there was.

“Well, that’s going to be hard. You are the first one ever to be taught in the art of death itself.” He admitted and smiled wryly.

“You´ve got to be kidding me.” I said and massaged my temples as I got headache from just that.

“No, not at all. There simply is no other person except you who is capable of using godly death magic as his or her main element.” He admitted slowly.

“Godly death magic? Really? Just call it death magic. And you will probably be the only one capable of using it in the future if you don’t come up with something more than ‘just do it.’ “ I growled as the headaches didn´t get any better.

“Hmm … maybe we need more symbolism for you.” He said as if he had the best idea in all eternity.

“What the fuck?” I asked. I had no problems sacrificing a goat or something, but I seriously doubted it would help much.

“You need to guide these souls. Try a campfire or something bright.” He said, still sure that this was going to help out.

“Oh, no. Don’t tell me there is a hint of truth behind the saying ‘there is a light at the end of the tunnel’.”

“Maybe. Who knows? And try to lengthen the chant … maybe that will help.” And another nonsensical tip.

“And how do I do that?” I asked in disappointment.

“Just …” do it? I would have punched him if he said that. “ … I don´t know. Try something out that sticks for you and say it in that language.”

“It is the language of the gods, isn´t it?” I asked slowly.

“… it is.” He admitted slowly. He probably would have liked to drag that revelation further into the future, but he knew as good as I that I was right.

“And why do I know that language since my birth?” I asked indignantly.

“Because you were born as an immature goddess? Lucinda, you just need to grow and …” He snipped with his fingers happily. Meanwhile, I rolled my eyes and turned away from him.

“I need time to try out what you just showed me.” I explained and walked a few steps away from him.

“Do that. I will wait for you here … and I will fix that.” He said and pointed all around him. Truly, nobody would be able to live in the mess we created.
