When Cai Youyang returned to school, he went to look for Teacher Wu with his self-reflection in hand. Teacher Wu didn’t finish his. It seemed that she wasn’t in any way worried. Seeing no one else around, Cai Youyang asked him how the vice principal was preparing to deal with that little boy in his class.

Teacher Wu leisurely shook his hand and said that things were fine.

“The student’s parents also work in the education system. The book is an instructional book on the topic of sex education.” Teacher Wu continued, “It’s not some big mistake. Just give him a scolding for reading leisurely books in class, and consider it settled.”

After Cai Youyang heard the first sentence, he knew that he had worried for nothing. “Education system?” he murmured before bitterly walking away. He had eaten losses at the hands of the Education Bureau, so he grew frightened at the mention of the higher-ups.

Teacher Wu obtained inspiration and planned to focus on the grade schoolers’ questions on sex education. The vice-principal strongly disagreed and repeated his words at their regular meeting yesterday, emphasizing school discipline and regulations and strictly prohibiting the propagation of obscene publications. Teacher Wu didn’t stand up to him. After all, he was a leader of the school. But as a homeroom teacher, Teacher Wu still passionately started a pilot program.

The homeroom teacher of the neighboring classroom came to take a look before grasping Teacher Wu’s hand and saying, “Xiao Wu, you’ll be confronting the vice-principal this way.”

Teacher Wu had great confidence. He had communicated with the students’ parents

The vice-principal soon learned about it. He came to listen to a homeroom class meeting. When he came over to Teacher Wu, he criticized his actions. “It’s bad to spread such things to society.” As he scolded Teacher Wu, his voice was already an octave lower than usual.

It just so happened that Cai Youyang also stopped by the classroom. After listening to what was being said, he thought that this was a good thing. Without any further delay, he waved a flag and went to support Teacher Wu. He spoke very tactfully, stating that the leaders of the education system have provided their children sex education and that their school had to keep up with the times.

“It’s said that there will be a reform,” swore Cai Youyang in a solemn manner.

The vice-principal became skeptical. He hadn’t heard anything about this!

Sex education had continually been proposed for so many years, but it had yet to ever be implemented. Who knew how much deep-seated prejudice was interfering with its implementation? After discussing with the other school leaders, the vice-principal didn’t dare touch on this matter. The principal stated that the Education Bureau did have intentions to conduct a reform, although they had not yet formulated any detailed plans.

In addition, the parents of one of the students in Teacher Wu’s class were high-level officials in the Education Bureau. Thus, the vice-principal turned a blind eye to the small moves Teacher Wu was conducting during his homeroom class meetings.

After Cai Youyang came home, he lamented that the vice principal was neither bad nor old-fashioned. He was simply too conservative and had too many constraints.

Lu Feng said, “Your homeroom teacher’s pretty brave. Some parents are too protective of their children. They’re afraid that their children will come into contact with the ‘adult world’, so they keep them away from all the “impure” things in this world. You’re both lucky you didn’t encounter those types of parents. One time, we were dispatched for a case that a school had reported. Parents were holding banners by the school gates, denouncing the school’s teachers for their immorality. When we asked about the situation back then, it turned to be because the grade-schoolers were taught how people are born. The school defended their teachers and weren’t willing to change their academic program. The parents were so angry and wanted to publicize the situation.”

Cai Youyang, “What happened next?”

“With the intervention of the media as well as the parents’ collective petition to the government, things grew more and more serious. Eventually, it was spread around that the school was “involved in pornography,” and the teacher who taught that class also had their license revoked.”

Cai Youyang fell silent.

“That’s why I don’t support you doing such unnecessary things,” continued Lu Feng. “It’s enough for you to teach the students what the book tells you to teach them.”

Cai Youyang flashed a bitter smile. “Even if you didn’t tell me this, I would still place my own safety before my principles.” He rubbed his belly. There still remained a scar on it after he protected the students back when he was still at Qiaotou primary school.

Lu Feng stroked Cai Youyang’s soft black hair, a gentle expression on his face. His eyes revealed his admiration and also encouragement. “Then do what you want to do.” His voice was smooth but also possessed power.

Cai Youyang said, “You support me?

“As your family member, I don’t support it.”

“I know what you want to say. You’re a policeman, so you can understand me. As a teacher, I bear a societal responsibility. My power as an individual may be insignificant and can’t change the societal system, but it can at least influence it to some extent.”

“So what have you decided to do?“ Lu Feng asked.

Cai Youyang responded, “I want to help Teacher Wu widen the scope of his plan.”

Lu Feng said, “Okay.”

Cai Youyang had little courage and no aspirations to “brave forward in spite of resistance from countless people.” But when someone else was taking the lead, he could still do something to support their cause. He was a Chinese language teacher and wanted to make some efforts in his major, so he asked his students to write a composition entitled “The Secrets of Birth.”

Faced with more than 50 pairs of curious and ignorant eyes, Cai Youyang said, “When you get home, watch Animal World, and choose your favorite animal. It can be elephants, tigers, rabbits, swans, sparrows, hummingbirds, whales, dolphins, or penguins. Even bees, mantis, and ants. Basically, it can type of creature as long as you like them. You then have to write about their reproduction process. There’s no strict word count requirement, but it has to be no less than 500 words.”

The sixth-graders already possessed foundational knowledge on what sex was. At present, they were silent. Some were blushing, while others were at a loss.

The boldest student raised his hand and questioned, “Teacher, humans are also animals. Can I write about humans?”

Cai Youyang was stuck in a tight spot. He didn’t know how to answer. He had initially thought that this topic was very good. He could open the topic with animals and then tell the children that sex wasn’t something mysterious. Future generations were the crystallization of this process. No one was simply picked up from the garbage bin.

His idea was pretty good, but this student just went and beat it into a sorry state until it had completely collapsed.

Beneath the podium, more than 50 pairs of eyes were still staring at him, holding curiosity and also a bit of craftiness.

Parents and teachers always thought they didn’t understand anything. The truth was that they knew quite a lot.

Last week, Wang Xiaoxiao and Liu Wei kissed each other by accident. Wang Xiaoxiao thought she was going to get pregnant and wailed. Everyone felt scared and didn’t know how to comfort Wang Xiaoxiao. But Fang Xin, the most knowledgeable person in their class, said that she wouldn’t get pregnant from only kissing. And in order to reassure Wang Xiaoxiao, Fang Xin showed them a book from his home, letting them take a look. They passed the book around and understood after reading it. Unfortunately, the vice-principal took the book away just when the book was passed back to Fang Xin.

Now, everyone stared at Cai Youyang with a mutual desire for knowledge in their faces. But Cai Youyang hadn’t figured out how to answer the student’s question yet.

Fang Xin stared at Cai Youyang’s embarrassed expression, maintaining an upright position with his arms folded on the table, back straight, and legs straight and closed in the proper manner. He had always been an obedient student, so Cai Youyang didn’t expect this from him. Fang Xin thought, he had already taught everyone what Teacher Wu and Teacher Cai wanted to teach them. Hah, he was too awesome.
