Correction in the previous chapter: Teacher Wu is only the homeroom teacher of that class, not the year-level supervisor. My bad for the mistake.

In the end, the vice-principal calmly praised Cai Youyang. After listening to his long speech, Cai Youyang grasped one core concept: the matter of him bringing his students to the playground was resolved and over.

Cai Youyang knew very clearly that if it hadn’t been for Fang Xin and Liu Wei’s quick reactions and the other students coordinating with them, he would’ve been criticized instead. So, during the discussion on whether to cancel the graduating classes’ spring excursion, Cai Youyang took the initiative to raise his hand and fight for the children’s rights.

The vice-principal said, “Want to have a spring excursion? Conduct the exam first. If they pass the exam, they can go.”

Thus, when he was in class, Cai Youyang said, “Students, we need to bring out our real skills this time.”

The students replied, “Yes!”

With such a big cookie as the spring excursion being swung in front of them, the students’ motivation to learn was very high. The difference between learning out of one’s own will and being forced to learn really showed in the test results. Cai Youyang couldn’t even believe it when the test results came out. Their class was ranked first.

Cai Youyang opened the sealed test papers and took them back to the office so that he could recheck them. Fortunately, there weren’t any errors in the checking. On the contrary, there were many places where points could’ve been given but weren’t. The papers could be said to have been checked very strictly.

Cai Youyang was afraid of the students becoming conceited, so when he was handing out the test papers, he repeatedly stressed, “There may be times when we score well, but that doesn’t mean our actual standards are that high. We still have to guard against pride and impatience and keep our feet on the ground…”

Liu Wei raised his hand. “Teacher, are our grades enough to go on a spring excursion?”

We only care about the spring excursion!

Cai Youyang’s mischievous spirit suddenly reared its head. In front of his students’ earnest eyes, he picked up his water bottle, slowly drank from it, and then said, “Well…”

“Teacher, speak faster!” said Liu Wei, expressing his feelings on behalf of the entire class.

Cai Youyang said, “The vice-principal said…”

The students leaned forward.

Cai Youyang’s face grew more and more solemn. “Your grades…”

The students felt uneasy.

He picked up the blackboard eraser and slammed it against the teacher’s desk. “…are very good!”

There was silence.

Then Cai Youyang announced, “The graduating classes can go on the spring excursion!”

A burst of cheers resounded. Everyone inside the classroom’s blood was boiling.

When Teacher Wu entered the classroom, Cai Youyang hurried out. “I’ll leave the rest to you.” He wouldn’t rob the homeroom teacher’s work.

With a laugh, Teacher Wu said, “You can join us. We will both be in charge of one class. You’re already like our class’ second homeroom teacher.”

Cai Youyang waved his hand. “I can’t.” But after a few moments of thought, he turned his head toward the leftmost seat in the first row. “I won’t leave. I’ll sit there and listen to you.”

Teacher Wu smiled. “Great.”

Afterward, he clapped several times until the noisy class finally fell silent. Cai Youyang sat among the students and listened to Teacher Wu talk about the time, place, and safety precautions for the spring excursion.

The spring excursion this time was a trip to the city zoo. Safety was still essential. Cai Youyang had very little experience in taking students out, so as he listened to Teacher Wu, he hurriedly took out a notebook and wrote down several key points.

Liu Wei asked, “Teacher, you take notes in class too?”

Cai Youyang nodded. “I’m more attentive than you all are.”

Liu Wei then said, “But Teacher, what if your body can’t take it and you faint during the trip to the zoo?”

Cai Youyang: “…” He originally assumed that Liu Wei was just joking with him. But unexpectedly, when he looked around, the other students also looked really worried.

Teacher Wu teased, “Teacher Cai, you frequently miss the morning run. The students are very concerned about your health.”

Cai Youyang: “…” Turns out, the students knew about that…

And so, when Cai Youyang got home, he gave Lu Feng a dressing down. If it weren’t for Lu Feng, why would he even often get lower back pain? And if it weren’t for his lower back pain, why would he have to skip out on the morning runs? And if it weren’t for his frequent absences from the morning runs, why would everyone even think he was physically frail?

Cai Youyang fumed. “This is all your fault.”

Lu Feng recognized that it really was his own fault this time, so he apologized with a modest attitude and gave a serious apology. He wore an apron, washed his hands, and made soup, using a tableful of food to earn Cai Youyang’s forgiveness.

Cai Youyang ate to his heart’s content before magnanimously saying, “Forget it. Just pay attention in the future.”

Lu Feng stroked his round belly. “When is the spring excursion?”

Cai Youyang became vigilant. “Why? We can’t bring family members.”

Lu Feng: “…”

“I’ll cook some food for you to take with you,” responded Lu Feng.”

Officer Lu found this to be quite romantic. The wife and children having an outing, with the husband preparing a lunchbox for them.

“I’m just going to bring my wallet and my phone. It’s too old-fashioned to bring a lunchbox too. What period are we living in already?” said Cai Youyang, disgusted.

Lu Feng: “…”

Cai Youyang felt that Lu Feng’s expression seemed very dangerous, so he quickly followed up with: “Ok, it’s not that old-fashioned. But it’ll be too heavy to carry, so I better not.”

Lu Feng didn’t give him a chance to explain. He simply picked him up and threw him onto the bed.

Cai Youyang: “…”

The next day, Cai Youyang went to school again, as was usual. After class, he heard the whispers of some students.

“Teacher Cai’s really in bad health.”

“My dad said that people with poor waists have deficiencies in their kidneys.”

“It’s over. Teacher Cai doesn’t even have a girlfriend yet.”

Cai Youyang was speechless. These little students knew what kidney deficiencies were? Let’s discuss things at the side.

The night before the spring excursion, Cai Youyang thought, if Lu Feng still wanted to do it, he would die tomorrow. The zoo was located near a mountain. He didn’t want to climb a mountain with his broken waist.

Lu Feng saw through the schemes in his heart, but he didn’t expose him.

“Call me if anything happens,” said Lu Feng.

Cai Youyang wasn’t worried at all. “We’re just going out to have fun. What can happen?”

What was it with his crow’s mouth? Good things didn’t come true, but bad things did. He’d been to the zoo so many things, but beyond all expectations, something big happened during the excursion.

The tiger in the zoo escaped!

At this time, Cai Youyang only managed to climb to the lion and tiger facility. He couldn’t climb anymore, so he sat down on the big stone by the side of the road to rest. Teacher Wu brought the students inside the facility to see the lion and the tiger, while Cai Youyang waited by the door.

Teacher Wu hadn’t gone in for long before Cai Youyang heard screams from inside the museum. At first, he thought they were the students’ screams of surprise after seeing the animals. But when he listened more carefully for a while, he got a bad feeling. And just when he wanted to go in and have a look, he saw some people running out of the facility.

At first, it was only a scattering of people. But then, a whole group of people rushed out and fled in all directions. It was chaotic. Cai Youyang wanted to grab one of the fleeing people and ask about the situation, but everyone was too frightened and ran off extremely fast.

What happened?

He didn’t have the time to think about it. He went against the flow of people and walked toward the lion and tiger facility. He didn’t see Teacher Wu or the students.

Someone pulled him back. “Don’t go in! The tiger escaped!”

Cai Youyang was startled. Then he called Lu Feng, continuing to walk in.

“Did this guy not understand what I said?” the person muttered before leaving him alone and running away.

When the call connected, Cai Youyang stepped one foot into the lion and tiger facility.

“Lu Feng.” He swallowed his saliva. He seemed to have heard the roar of a tiger, but he didn’t know whether that was just his imagination or reality. “A tiger escaped in the zoo. Will this case fall under your jurisdiction?”

Lu Feng said, “I’ll immediately arrange and dispatch a SWAT team to your location. Where are you right now? Also, make sure you’re safe.”

Cai Youyang had poked his head into the lion and tiger facility. He could vaguely hear the sound of a child crying, but he didn’t see anyone.

Cai Youyang hesitated. “My students are inside.”

In a stern voice, Lu Feng said, “Ensure your own safety first and foremost!”

Cai Youyang could hear Lu Feng already beginning to arrange some people on the other end of the phone. He himself also felt that the right thing to do was to stay outside and wait for the professionals to come. But he couldn’t rest easy when he thought about his students’ cute and innocent faces.

Then from a distance, a group of people came running with sticks in their hands. Cai Youyang’s sharp eyes noticed the group of children behind the adults. He guessed that these were the students who went down the mountain to buy popsicles. He hurriedly said, “I have another situation here. I’ll hang up first.”

Afterward, Lu Feng heard the beeping sounds from his phone, face growing solemn. Civil cases weren’t under the crime investigation unit. The only things he could do were mobilize a SWAT team and cooperate with the local police. He couldn’t dispatch police to the location of the incident, so he could only ask for leave.

Just as Lu Feng asked for leave, Xiao Zhou told him that there was an incident at the zoo and that the police station requested the assistance of a SWAT team.

Lu Feng replied, “I’ve just gotten a civilian report about that incident and have already arranged a SWAT team for dispatch.”

Xiao Zhou gave him a blank stare. Afterward, he saw his captain dress in civilian clothing and hurried out the door.

As Lu Feng was rushing to the zoo, Cai Youyang was comforting his students. When their class arrived at the lion and tiger facility, some students entered with Teacher Wu to see the animals, while the others volunteered to go down the mountain to buy popsicles. Cai Youyang had been resting outside the lion and tiger facility to wait for these students to come back.

But outside of expectations, their two groups couldn’t meet up again after splitting for just a short ten minutes or so, separated by the lion and tiger facility.

Many students were worried for their classmates and their teacher inside the facility. Cai Youyang asked them to calm down and not disturb the zoo’s rescue operations. But Cai Youyang himself couldn’t calm down. He wanted to go in and take a look.

At present, the lion and tiger facility had been sealed off by the zoo. The manager, which was the one holding the stick, said that unrelated parties weren’t allowed to enter.

Cai Youyang said, “At least one teacher and more than ten students are trapped inside. If the students become emotionally unstable, they might make the tiger lose control. If I go in, maybe I can help you calm the students.”

The person in charge of the zoo considered for a while before saying, “If it’s like this, then you can follow along with our people, but you shouldn’t act rashly.”

Cai Youyang nodded.

And so, they entered from the back door. When they saw the situation inside the facility, their chests felt heavier.

The reason why Teacher Wu and the students weren’t able to flee was that the tiger was keeping them trapped within the viewing stands near the exhibition pool. From time to time, they glanced at the tiger’s sweeping tail on the ground. Although the tiger had no intention to attack for the time being, it could cross the seven to eight meters of distance between them in the blink of an eye. With such circumstances, the zoo personnel naturally couldn’t just drive it away willy-nilly.
