The look in Damian's eyes and how hard he fought, reminded him of his father, who despite being crippled and coming from a fallen noble family, he still held up his head high and never allowed others to look down on him,

His parents were everything to him and he hated himself for going against their teachings, however, Damian reminded him of who he should be and after a few days of contemplation, he realised what he needed to do.

"After we get out of this, we are even and we can go back to being rivals. I can't believe that I was trained so much by this trash that my father always told me to stay clear of" said Clay as he placed his palms on the ground, preparing to fight, while glaring at the mercenaries and royal academy students.

Damian smiled before saying, "You really aren't such a bad guy, but unfortunately, you will struggle to keep up with me if you are claiming to be my rival"

Clay scoffed at Damain's response.

"We will see"

Both of them were ready to fight for their and putting one's life on the line with another made people much closer than most events and Damian couldn't help but weirdly see Clay as a friend.

The spirit of his Innate Ability was right to say that he was similar to him, and the recklessness, determination and desire to be strong were evident in both of them.

"Listen here mercenaries, as long as you eliminate him as well, I will double the reward. I know you aren't allowed to act against nobles, no one will ever know" the two royal academy students said, shocking Damian.

He couldn't help but feel bad for getting Clay involved in his mess and it also showed him that he couldn't judge an entire group of people based on the actions of some of them, as Clay was an example of a noble that wasn't that bad.

"Well, he was seeking death anyway. Just make sure we get our reward and if he is that Clay from that family, no one will really care even if we killed him publically. He shouldn't have looked down on us, so just leave it to my squad but I want triple the reward and that mercenary's family to be given a reward for fighting honourably" demanded the leader of the mercenary group.

The two royal academy students weren't in a position to negotiate or argue and quickly agreed, knowing that most of the Royal Academy Mercenaries didn't have anything to lose.

Hearing that, Damian was shocked as he had previously assumed that Clay was from a very big and powerful family because of his talent, capabilities and the people around him, but it seemed as though he was mistaken.

There are many fallen noble families and most of them aren't even considered noble families, but they were still given the opportunity to join the Royal Academy and becoming a Royal Academy Mercenary was a great way to become stronger and revive one's family.

Along with those from fallen noble families, those that weren't respected or had high positions within their families, and those that had older more talented siblings were likely to join the Royal Mercenaries, wanting to prove themselves and sharpen their skills.

"Clay you support me and cover me as I attack, but keep your distance and I will try to push them away from you," said Damian as he stood before Clay and formed two Fire Sabres.

Using a sabre in one hand had become something that Damian was proficient in, and dual-wielding them wasn't something that Damian was afraid to attempt.

There was no better place to progress, learn and surpass one's limits than a battle and the mercenaries were surprised by Damian's decision to use two blades at once, while Clay could see that and was beginning to doubt whether they would make it out with their lives.

However seeing the smile on Damian's face along with his yellow eyes that were burning with ambition, Clay was once again reminded of his father's teachings and he would much rather die an honourable death, than continue living how he was.

Despite the odds stacked against him, Damian was calm and even dared to try to use the opportunity to learn and practise how to dual wield blades, so Clay also had no reason to feel fear or worry.

"Kid you really are seeking death. I can admit you learn quickly and are quite skilled in using one sabre, but you were nowhere near as skilled as the mercenary you took down when it came to wielding blades and even he didn't dual wield blades. It is much harder to balance, use coherently and be able to defend with them. How do you expect you to be able to defend yourself, let alone defeat us, if you aren't taking this battle seriously?" the mercenary squad leader asked, amused by Damian's confident, reckless and relentless character.

"We will see, just don't come crying to me when I slice you up with these two blades. I just need some time to get used to it and practise, so send out another one of your mercenaries and just watch me take him down alone" refuted Damian, trying to get the mercenary group leader to send out his subordinates one by one, so that they could have a chance of winning and getting away with their lives.

"That is a smart plan, trying to get me to send out my subordinates one by one so that you can have a better chance at survival. However, I do not make reckless decisions like you two idiots, despite how talented and capable you guys are, and you also won't have a chance against a single mercenary anyway. So why don't you entertain me, kid? Show me what you got" said the mercenary leader as he sent a second mercenary to face Damian, but this time, the mercenary was much stronger.
