Chapter 22

The Human Race kept on training until sunset over the western mountains.

Seeing this, Chloe quickly had her companions stop as well.

She sat in the grass at the center of the track, watching the neatly lined up Human Race not far away, and felt a surge of sourness in her heart.

So obedient, so hardworking, so persevering.

She turned her head, looking again at her kin sprawled on the ground like dead pigs, and was instantly furious.

After about ten minutes, Chloe gritted her teeth, stood up, and kicked each of the Vampires pretending to be dead, saying:

“Hurry up and get up, run the last half lap.”

In an instant, the entire track was filled with the pained howls of Vampire cubs.

But Chloe was unmoved.

When they finally finished the last half lap, Chloe also felt some fatigue. She sat on the grass, stretched out her legs, stretched out her hands to massage her sore calves.

Anderson stood silently beside her, stopwatch in hand, and said: “The best time today is thirty-five minutes.”

Still too slow.

Chloe was a little worried.

At this rate, who knew when these cubs would be able to run 5 km in under twenty-three minutes.

Wouldn't that mean they'd have to keep eating this disgusting food?

Chloe frowned, got up from the ground, then called everyone to go to sleep.

Because they hadn't passed the entrance exam, this batch of first-year students didn't have the right to live in the dormitories.

The sleeping area the school provided for them was a large barracks, crammed full of bunk beds, clearly extremely shabby.

The blankets on top also gave off a damp, moldy smell, and some even had holes with cotton falling out.

Like Chloe's bed.

She sat on the bedding, staring expressionlessly at the hole continuously spilling out cotton, her gaze fierce.

Anderson's bunk was across from her. Seeing this, he raised an eyebrow slightly.

Having grown up together since childhood, Anderson considered himself quite familiar with her.

In terms of combat power, the young miss in front of him was outrageously strong, but in terms of life skills, Chloe could be described in two words — an idiot.

Anderson got down from his bed and said in a low voice, “Let me.”

Chloe didn't understand: “Let you do wha—”

Before she could finish speaking, she saw Anderson take out a sewing kit from his pocket.

The case seemed to be made of sheet metal, printed with a cookie pattern.

Anderson calmly took out a needle and thread from the box and started skillfully mending the bedding.

Chloe was shocked: “Why do you carry around a sewing kit?”

“Nothing strange about it,” Anderson's voice was calm as an ancient well, “It's like how you carry a dagger on you, this is just personal habit.”

Hearing this, Chloe nodded in understanding: “Since that's the case, help mend everyone's bedding.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Anderson raised his head, instantly feeling the hopeful gazes of countless Vampire cubs around him.

Some even held up their bedding high, to make it easy for Anderson to see the holes in theirs.

Anderson: “......”

He glanced at his young miss, and found her with a faint smile on her lips, leisurely watching him.

“...Alright.”

The Vampires were enthusiastically sewing and mending over here. The cubs of other races looked at their own drafty bedding, then at the Vampires not far away, and one by one felt uncomfortable and aggrieved.

They didn't know how to sew.

The Human Race didn't know either, but Qin Huaipei was decent at it. He took the initiative to find Chloe and ask if Anderson could help mend theirs too. If not, could they at least borrow some needle and thread.

At the time, Chloe was enthusiastically following Anderson to learn sewing. Hearing this, she said:

"Then just borrow some needle and thread to take over. Anderson is too busy, he can't make it around. If you don't know how to sew, you can come over here and learn from me."

Chloe learned very quickly. After some guidance, she had mastered threading the needle and making stitches, and took the initiative to join the ranks of mending bedding.

Seeing even their leader sewing in person, the Vampire cubs also hesitantly came over to learn, and mended their own bedding themselves.

They were extremely busy over here, but fortunately everyone was still relatively cheerful, and didn't feel mending bedding was some arduous, face-losing task. On the contrary, it helped distract them from this shabby barracks.

The Vampires and Humans were quite busy, but the Elves finally couldn't stand it anymore, and also started asking Chloe to borrow needles and thread. However, Anderson's sewing kit wasn't bottomless, and had barely any needle and thread left that could be rationed out to the Elves.

The Elves came too late, and got nothing in the end.

The nights on the island were extremely cold, and the cool winds blowing through chilled one down to the bone.

Because of the bedding, the Vampires and Humans slept relatively soundly. The Werewolves had transformed back into beast form, their fur extremely insulating against the cold. The only ones suffering miserably were the Elves.

They barely got any sleep the whole night.

...

The next day, at 5am sharp, a piercing whistle suddenly sounded outside the barracks.

The cubs had a conditioned response to this highly recognizable whistle, and were instantly half awake.

When Chloe got up, she accidentally banged her head on the bed frame, completely unfazed. She briskly put on her military overcoat, then habitually put on her bite inhibiter.

The barracks were chaotic, and everyone rushed outside after getting dressed, afraid of being late and facing either extra drills or whipping.

The first to get in neat lines were the Humans and Vampires, followed by the Elves. As for the Werewolves...only the leader came out.

Daniel was impeccably dressed in uniform, head held high with a proud posture, standing alone at the front of the empty formation, looking quite heroic.

It was obvious he felt very proud.

Ren Yunying walked over with her hands behind her back. Her face was expressionless as she stopped in front of Daniel: "Where are your companions?"

Daniel loudly replied: "Report! They're still not up!"

The smugness on his face wasn't concealed at all, clear at a glance.

Ren Yunying stared at him: "You look very happy?"

"Yes!" Daniel answered loudly.

Of the entire Werewolf Race, only he alone had gotten up. Wasn't this proof that only he, Daniel, was the most obedient, most disciplined and strongest?

This time, Daniel was determined to regain the face he lost yesterday!

On the other side, Chloe looked at the inexplicably proud Daniel in the distance, her eyes complicated.

This idiot, it had been so long since she'd seen such a stupid guy.

Sure enough, right after Daniel finished speaking, Ren Yunying whipped out her long whip and lashed him fiercely!

Daniel instantly let out a sharp wolf's cry.

He dazedly touched his whipped and bleeding thigh, still a bit confused: "Instructor?"

Ren Yunying looked sternly at him and scolded: "As the Werewolf leader, you only care about showing off yourself. Hearing the whistle, you deliberately didn't remind your companions. Is this your idea of team spirit?!"

Daniel was instantly dumbfounded.

Ren Yunying: "Except for Daniel, the 5 km run is cancelled for everyone today."

Daniel: "......"
