Chu Jinglan’s thirtieth birthday arrived unawaringly in the middle of winter of fluttering snowflakes.

As this was his first birthday since his accession to the throne and also a round-off age, the Ministry of Rites wanted to make it grand but he said that the national treasury was tight now thus to keep everything to simplicity. Hence, the birthday banquet was cancelled and ministers commended him repeatedly once they heard about it.

However, even though it is not observed publicly, the family will eventually celebrate it. On the day of his birthday, Ye Huaiyang, who was more proactive than the birthday boy himself, had long dispatched Yue’ya to go to the Imperial Study Room to request for instruction. Yue’ya naturally daren’t be negligent and went over quickly. When she arrived at the entrance of the Imperial Study Room, she heard the guard say that Tang Qingfeng was inside reporting some matters. Standing under the porch, she waited for a while when she inadvertently pressed her ear closer when a few vague words transmitted out faintly.

“Your Majesty, those previous birthdays were spent in the Meng family. You think this year …. “

“We[1] don’t want to see anyone this year.”

Tang Qingfeng hesitated for a moment and said, “Then the few carts of congratulatory gifts that the Meng family just sent over …. “

Without even raising his head, the sleeve of Chu Jinglan’s cyan imperial robe moved back and forth on the strong white paper. Thickly-colored ink splashed with the wielding brush and the color of spring instantly took shape. At the same time, his breezy calm voice drifted to Tang Qingfeng’s ears too, “You do as its fit and handle it spotlessly. Do not let the Empress know.”

“Don’t worry, Your Majesty. This subordinate knows.”

Kidding, he is not a fool. He can provoke anyone but not that great aunt ah!

When King Qiyang sent four female dancers over in Jingzhou, he was admonished by Ye Huaiyang for not being able to deal with them. That scene was still vivid in his mind and Meng Chen was even a notch more potent than those people. Only if he doesn’t want his life would he step on this minefield ….

Thinking of this, Tang Qingfeng couldn’t help but feel the chill under his shirt and his footsteps became even more quicker. That few carts were still parked over the palace gate, it would be bad if Ye Huaiyang knew about it. However, what you fear will always come. As soon as he went out, he bumped into Yue’ya that his heart immediately cried out not good when he caught sight of Yue’ya’s spiteful gaze, but Yue’ya did not say anything. She just snorted at him and went in.

“Nubi[2] pays respect to Your Majesty and long live Your Majesty.”

Chu Jinglan’s gaze instantly stiffened when he saw her. He paused and asked, “What’s the matter?”

Yue’ya replied in a low voice, “Niang-niang[3] asked Nubi to come deliver a message, asking when Your Majesty will return to Taiji Palace for dinner tonight? She wants to make the longevity-noodles in time, otherwise it won’t taste good if it gets cold.”

Chu Jinglan’s gaze slightly relaxed with wisps of plain pleasure and didn’t bother to continue with the remaining strokes for the painting on the table. Dropping the writing brush immediately, he walked out from behind the table before saying, “We just knew she would be bustling around, We are going back now.”

After saying that, he took the lead out of the room while the black hemline drifted in wake. Yue’ya was radiant with joy and about to turn to catch up when the glance from the corner of her eye accidentally peeked at the painting and felt a chill for no reason — it was clearly a flourishing spring scene but the forceful strokes of the brush were so poignant and almost seeped through the paper, revealing a thoroughly murderous aura!

Shuddered, she dared not to stay any longer and hurriedly followed with small quick steps.

Taiji Palace.

The dashing figure walked in from under the stained-glass window arched door. The group of servants dropped to the ground like severed bamboo once he was in their line of sights. Chu Jinglan waved his hand in passing and walked into the inner hall. Sweeping around slowly, he didn’t see the person he was thinking about but found something that surprised him.

It was a map depicting the southern coastal regions lying across the middle of the main hall, which was as big as half a screen.

Chu Jinglan was wondering how there was such a thing in the bedchamber. Looking at it carefully, he suddenly discovered the inklings. The map was full of lines and marking symbols of various colors as well as the words such as silk, tea, iron and others. Looking at the overall picture, it was clearly a regional trade map and the targeted contacts were actually the island countries across the sea!

“Does Your Majesty like it? This is the birthday gift that Chenqie[4] personally made for you.”

A pair of slender arms quietly extended from behind, followed by the crown of an arch. She could no longer hug him tightly as before and she seemed a little upset. But he gently pulled her out from the back before carefully gathering her into his arms.

“Is this what you’ve been doing secretively these days?”

“Yes ah.” Ye Huaiyang spat out these two words clearly. Smiling coquettishly, she looked at him, “Do you like it?”

“How could I not like your thoughtfulness?” The corners of Chu Jinglan’s mouth held a gentle smile and with the slight tilt of his head, his gaze met the magnificent map which instantly turned into boundless starry sky as if the realm borders were in his eyes.

He has always wanted to start the maritime trade but there are too many obstacles for it to be achieved at present. He could only talk briefly about it with Ye Huaiyang at night. She has never seen him so obsessed with one thing that even his eyes were beaming brightly. Since then, she secretly bore every detail in mind and coupled with her understanding of the southeast coastal trade market, she painted this extremely detailed trade map.

In the midst of his astonishment, Chu Jinglan’s heart almost melted by this deep affection.

Being more than seven months pregnant, she expended all her efforts to complete such a complex thing merely due to his ambition. Every night when he came back draped in frost and snow, he was greeted with a warm bed and a warm delicate body. He didn’t even realize that she had also been busy all day! If it was not for a three-dimensional frame that was made later which was too big to hide, he probably would still be kept in the dark.

Kissing her face, Chu Jinglan sighed deeply, “Yang’er, this is the best gift I’ve ever received. Thank you for your hard work.”

Ye Huaiyang shook her head slightly, “It was not hard. There were a lot of people helping me.”

Chu Jinglan felt distressed for her exhaustion but he didn’t say much. His thin lips went all the way down and deepened the kiss.

Perhaps it had been too long since their intimacy, his hot lips and tongue seemed to be sieged with blazing flame. The moment he dipped into the depth of sweet nectar, a thundering bolt instantly evoked that she actually turned weak to stand and felt herself pulled down by the heaviness of her belly. Just at this moment, an iron arm wrapped around her back while another firmly supported the bottom of her belly which shared a lot of the burden.

She finally could enjoy this kiss contentedly without inhibitions.

Ye Huaiyang responded to Chu Jinglan wholeheartedly. With flushed cheeks and short breaths, her coquettishness unfolded vividly in front of him. Intoxicated, his lower body gradually hardened which poked her accidentally and came to his senses instantly that he let go of her incidentally.

And the ambiguity in the room dispersed abruptly.

Ye Huaiyang’s eyes were still shrouded with layers of mist. Looking hazily at him, she called out, “Jinglan?”

These two words brought out endless enchantments that tantalized Chu Jinglan’s desire. His body was scorching pain yet he pulled her away steadfastly and caressed her hair before saying, “Summon them to get the meal. I’ll take a bath and come out to eat with you.”

After saying that, he went into the side room, leaving the dazed Ye Huaiyang there for half a day. She only realized after a long time — he was going to put out the fire.

She pursed her lips and smiled then followed him quietly.

Passing through the hibiscus screen, a huge square-shaped hot spring pool appeared before the eyes. The surface was steaming with dense mist and a faint flower scent but Chu Jinglan was not in it. Following the sound of water, Ye Huaiyang slowly went deeper and saw him standing with a frown in the cold pool on the other side, while his lower body was still stiff. She felt both angry and amused that she immediately revealed herself to reach out and pull him.

“What are you doing? The weather is so cold, what’s to be done if you get sick?”

Chu Jinglan looked up all of a sudden, as if he didn’t expect her to appear here and frowned more tightly.

“Come up quickly, or I’ll have to go down and get you!”

Seeing that he didn’t want to move, Ye Huaiyang threatened. Sure enough, he immediately moved after hearing that. His sturdy body stepped up slowly through the curtain of water. Without the towel, he just stood damply with brightly glistening muscular contours in front of her.

“Ask you to summon the meals but you ran over here. You are resisting the decree.”

Ye Huaiyang was indeed dumbfounded in the face of this accusation. Looking down at the swaying little Jinglan that was waving at her, she decided to pull him into the hot spring pool. She then slowly took off the clothes in the water. When the last piece was peeled off from her body, the stare on the back instantly became scorching hot and Chu Jinglan’s raspy voice followed afterwards.

“Yang’er …. “

Ye Huaiyang turned around and the delicately smooth white jade-like body just bared in front of him. The white bunnies on her chest were much fuller and were dripping with water. The crystal beads trickled down the bulging belly before instantly slid into the pool, leaving strings of water marks which greeted him together with the lightly trembling orbs.

Chu Jinglan’s breathing stopped.

“It’s Chenqie’s fault for letting Your Majesty put out the fire himself.” Ye Huaiyang walked slowly over and inched closer to his lean abdomen. Using an extremely charming voice, she said, “Your Majesty need not hold back any longer, Chenqie also wants to bear the pleasure … “

Chu Jinglan could barely pull back a trace of sanity as he reprimanded softly, “Nonsense, how can you fool around now?”

“Chenqie is not fooling around. The fetus is stable and we merely need to be careful.” Ye Huaiyang grabbed his hand to caress her own body and asked coquettishly, “Is Your Majesty not willing to satisfy Chenqie?”

Chu Jinglan touched the softness rigidly when the reasoning gradually dissipated. Without his noticing, her slender fingers wrapped fully around his lower body that he almost failed to control and surrendered on the spot!

“Your Majesty has not tasted the pleasure of close intimacy for a long time and is indeed really sensitive … “

She smiled gently. Her red lips were moving in front of his eyes, bringing endless temptation that every word she said tugged at his heartstrings which made his entire body ticklish and ache as if a blazing flame was about to erupt.

“Yang’er, let go.”

“I will not.”

Ye Huaiyang deliberately sang a different tune against him. Not only did she loosen instead she grasped more tighter. Rubbing it up and down, it was simply maddening. Stiffened in the water, Chu Jinglan could not move even half an inch. His adam’s apple rolled indistinctly a few times and just before he wanted to make a sound to stop her, his chest felt numb suddenly. Looking down, Ye Huaiyang had bent down at some point and started to playfully lick the little red bean. She would raise her head to look at him from time to time with overflowing fawns through her long eyelashes.

All the defenses collapsed instantly.

Taking a few deep breaths to slow down, Chu Jinglan quickly princess-carried her to the jade platform in the middle of the water before instantly covering that troublesome little mouth once he had laid her flat.

As the world turned quiet, Ye Huaiyang smiled.
