111 Puppet Jade

Yan Huiyang said, "I just sent someone to check, and the war has broken out in full swing. Besides, we still haven't received the information on the six members of the Fenglan Society Society. I'm afraid we won't need it anymore."

Zhuang Yao said, "Indeed, we won't need it. We've already killed at least two or three individuals, and their strength is far weaker than we had imagined."

Yan Huiyang was surprised, "You killed two or three? Who were they?"

"One was named Awu, a mammalian atavistic being, and the other was Zhao Ge, possibly a highly evolved power-type evolutionary human. There was also a speed-type evolutionary person, but we aren't sure if they were from the Fenglan Society."

"What does the speed-type evolutionary person look like?"

Tang Yanqiu described the person briefly.

"That speed-type person wasn't from the Fenglan Society Society; I know him, he's from Yao Huang," said Yan Huiyang.

Zhuang Yao continued, "We killed several people in the backyard, but we can't be sure if they were from the Fenglan Society. If we estimate conservatively, the Fenglan Society should have four members left. If the remaining members are not much stronger than the ones we encountered, then it should be relatively easy to deal with them."

Yan Huiyang couldn't help but glance at Zhuang Yao, thinking he was quite bold.

Zhuang Yao saw through his thoughts with one look, "Leave the members of the Fenglan Society to us. Zhao Fen and Yao Huang's people will suffer many casualties in the battle against Wei Zi. You take advantage of their weakness and make your move; you should be able to outdo them."

Yan Huiyang looked at his watch; it was almost four o'clock. "When do we take action?"

"In about another hour. Once they've fought enough, it'll be our turn to finish things off," Zhuang Yao replied.

Yan Huiyang nodded and clenched his fists.

Deng Xiao said, "Boss Yan, I need to eat; I'm starving." He had expended a significant amount of energy earlier and needed food to replenish it.

Cong Xia frowned, "You're a cold-blooded creature; your digestion should be slow. Why are you so easily hungry?"

"Maybe my stomach is relatively large," Deng Xiao casually replied. "By the way, Boss Yan, do we still have more of these clothes? They got blown up by a grenade." He tugged at the clothes he had worn for less than two hours, and the down feathers at the back were exposed. The clothes barely covered him and could serve as a makeshift cover, but they were no longer adequate for keeping him warm.

With the impending battle, Yan Huiyang had no time to spare for him and absentmindedly said, "We have food, but no spare clothes."

"Then let's have some food first, and then please get me an ordinary set of clothes. I'm freezing."

Yan Huiyang instructed someone to bring them a lot of food and water.

After changing into new clothes, Deng Xiao held a large roasted lamb leg and began to gnaw on it. The others also felt hungry and started eating.

Zhuang Yao separated Yan Huiyang and the others, saying, "Everyone, remember our target is the Puppet Jade, not any individual. Once we descend the mountain, Cong Xia will immediately sense the location of the Puppet Jade. We'll grab it and leave on Abu. There's nothing worth staying or fighting for here, so let's not waste our strength."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Zhuang Yao looked at Deng Xiao, "Especially you."

Deng Xiao lifted his head, licked his greasy lips, and said, "What's wrong with me?"

"Don't let your personal desire for competition influence the collective battle plan. We want you to withdraw, and you must leave immediately. Don't act impulsively and insist on determining a winner with the enemy."

Deng Xiao smiled, "I won't, I prioritize the overall situation."

Zhuang Yao rolled his eyes, clearly skeptical. At least today, he saw Deng Xiao's battle with Awu as lacking in strategy. Both of them relied solely on brute force to attack, leading to excessive consumption of their strength, which was very inefficient. However, talking to Deng Xiao about this now wouldn't make any difference. They would have to train him gradually in the future.

Cong Xia said, "Everyone, take a rest. If anyone's energy isn't fully replenished, let me know now."

Liu Fengyu said, "Me." He pouted, "It seems Xia completely forgot about me."

Cong Xia laughed, "That's because Brother Liu wasn't injured, so I forgot." He absorbed the energy from a stored jade talisman and transferred it into Liu Fengyu's body. He had made many jade talismans in the past two days, and they should be sufficient for this battle.

After eating his fill, Deng Xiao patted his belly and lay down on a cotton blanket, seemingly ready to take a nap.

Zhuang Yao tapped him, "Get up and help me with an experiment."

"Huh? What experiment?"

"Run over there." Zhuang Yao pointed to a tent about twenty meters away.

Deng Xiao looked at him in puzzlement but got up and ran to the tent, then leisurely returned.

"Faster."

Deng Xiao immediately picked up his pace. He had been running fast and steady, but when he reached their tent, it was evident that his movements became sluggish, and there were issues with the frequency of his footsteps. His body wavered slightly, almost falling, but he quickly stabilized himself.

"What's going on?" Deng Xiao looked down, finding no obstacles.

Zhuang Yao nodded, "Yes, not bad."

Cong Xia asked, "Did you do that?"

Zhuang Yao replied, "Yes, I influenced his cerebellum's balance nerves. Now I can control certain nerves in a small range of a person's brain. For instance, I can cause temporary blindness, amnesia, muteness, or deafness. I can also affect a person's balance like this and have some influence on their judgment through suggestion. However, the impact is relatively minor and lasts no more than two seconds."

"But it's an improvement compared to before, right?"

Zhuang Yao nodded, his eyes showing delight, "With so many things to research on a regular basis, I don't have enough time for cultivation, but under the catalyst of the Puppet Jade, I've made considerable progress. I believe that once my brain domain evolution reaches its later stage, I should be able to directly control other creatures' brains, even if it's limited control. It's a terrifying ability. The effects of evolution are so significant; I should adjust my schedule and spend more time on cultivation."

Cong Xia exhaled softly, "Brain (cerebral) domain evolution... It's quite frightening."

Zhuang Yao said, "Though the time and range I can control are small, I can assist you on the battlefield, especially for fighters like Cheng Tianbi and Deng Xiao, who are close-combat specialists. When the time comes, you need to seize the opportunity because controlling Abu will consume most of my energy. So, this opportunity may only happen once."

Cheng Tianbi said, "Even half a second of influence on the enemy is enough."

Even half a second, if they seize the opportunity correctly, would be sufficient for Cheng Tianbi or Deng Xiao to take off an enemy's head.

Time passed minute by minute, and it was nearly 5 o'clock in the early spring, with the darkest moments before dawn.

Abu's enormous figure maneuvered through the forest, echoing the snowy ground, resembling a white lightning bolt. Six people sat on Abu, gazing intently ahead, preparing for a big fight.

Behind Abu, there were more than twenty giant wolfhounds, each with a person riding on their back. They dashed down the mountain at a high speed.

After entering the city, there were blazing flames everywhere, and occasional explosions and the roaring of machine guns could be heard in the distance. They weren't far from Wei Zi's stronghold and headed straight for their destination.

"The Puppet Jade is either with those two brothers or hidden away. The latter possibility is higher because the range of the detector doesn't exceed a hundred meters. If they hid the Puppet Jade deep in the mountains, it would be extremely difficult to find."

Cheng Tianbi said, "But Cong Xia's sensing range is more than a hundred meters."

"That's right, so finding the Puppet Jade will definitely be up to us," Zhuang Yao said. "Cong Xia, how far is your energy perception range now?"

"For ordinary beings, it's over two hundred meters, but the energy volume of the Puppet Jade is too vast. I can sense it from five hundred meters away."

"Will the Puppet Jade on Cheng Tianbi affect your perception?"

"No, Wei Zi's Puppet Jade is probably even bigger than the one Cheng Tianbi has. At least in my perception, Cheng Tianbi's Puppet Jade is like a 'giant,' while Wei Zi's Puppet Jade is an even larger 'giant.' I can't ignore something that huge." It took Cong Xia some time to get used to having a "giant" by his side all the time. The energy fluctuations from the Puppet Jade were astonishing, and at the beginning, it made it hard for him to get a good night's sleep.

"Very well, let's find Wei Zi and his brothers first. If the Puppet Jade is nearby, that's great; if not, we'll force them to reveal its whereabouts."

Yan Huiyang sat on a giant blackback and rode over to Abu's side, raising his head and calling out, "They should be in the southeast direction; that's Wei Zi's experimental base, where all the genetic modification experiments are conducted. Zhao Fen and Yao Huang wouldn't let that place go easily."

Everyone looked toward the southeast, where flames rose high not far from Wei Zi's lair, indicating fierce fighting.

"Let's go and check it out," Zhuang Yao said, patting Abu. Abu leaped up and ran in the southeast direction.

After crossing a street, they reached a narrower alley ahead. Abu had initially planned to jump onto the rooftops, but something in the middle of the alley attracted its attention, causing it to halt and arch its back, taking on an attacking posture.

Since they were still over a hundred meters away, the others either couldn't see or sense anything. Only Cong Xia, like Abu, felt a powerful energy fluctuation. Tang Yanqiu saw a huge sphere on the ground, but it was too dark to discern what it exactly was.

"What's going on?"

"There's something ahead, a sphere."

"A sphere? Abu, step back."

Yan Huiyang asked, "What is it? Yan Ting, come and take a look."

Yan Ting ran up to her father, stared ahead, and her face changed. "Dad, it's Zhao Yinrong."

Yan Huiyang's expression turned serious. "It's Zhao Fen's woman. Get your protective gear ready!" He and the people behind him took out a face mask from their pockets and covered their noses and mouths.

Someone threw several protective masks to Cheng Tianbi and the others, and they quickly put them on. The legendary peony variation mutant possesses a mesmerizing hallucinogenic pollen, causing extreme agony when inhaled. Even if one doesn't breathe it in, mere skin contact would cause burning pain. It was practically an unavoidable method of attack. Otherwise, a woman wouldn't be able to lead a large faction in the apocalypse.

The sphere slowly unfurled, revealing tender pink petals under the night sky. It turned out to be a gigantic peony bud, unfolding like a high-speed documentary film, gradually stretching its layered petals. The process of blooming was so breathtakingly beautiful that it suffocated the onlookers. Finally, it fully bloomed into a three-meter-wide peony, with a woman sitting at its core, partially covered by flower petals, seemingly becoming one with the flower. The woman had a charming and captivating appearance, with her eyes exuding a hint of killing intent as she glanced over them.

Deng Xiao widened his eyes, "Wow, she's so pretty, is she not wearing any clothes?"

Yan Huiyang said coldly, "Zhao Yinrong."

Zhao Yinrong sneered, "Yan Huiyang, are you seeking death, collaborating with these people?"

Yan Huiyang sarcastically replied, "You're collaborating with Xu Zhuo and the Fenglan Society, isn't that even more suicidal? Whether Wei Zi wins or you do, it's the end for Lu Yun. If you were in my shoes, wouldn't you seek a different path?"

Zhao Yinrong's tone turned icy, "You have some self-awareness, at least. A stubborn and useless man like you should disappear from Luoyang City together with your half-dead Lu Yun."

"Today, it seems it's you who will disappear."

Zhao Yinrong lifted her fair and slender arm, gazing at the people on Abu, "Let me see what you're capable of." The massive petals behind her suddenly closed toward the center, releasing countless sparkling pollen that drifted towards them.

Liu Fengyu sneered and made a cold hum.

Deng Xiao shouted, "Liu Ge, Liu Ge, use your stench! That pollen is toxic, quickly stink her to death!"

Liu Fengyu fiercely slapped his head and said, "Idiot, don't mention that word!"

Deng Xiao, holding his head, looked puzzled and asked, "Which word?"

"Stench," Zhuang Yao said nonchalantly.

"Huh? Why not? Isn't it cool?"

Liu Fengyu pinched his face and said angrily, "I hate hearing that word the most. Don't you dare say it again!"

Deng Xiao could only nod.

Cheng Tianbi said, "Liu Fengyu, stop the chatter."

Zhuang Yao shouted, "Abu, lower your head!"

Abu quickly lowered its head, burying its nose in its chest fur.

Liu Fengyu waved his hand, and a dense red gas spread into the air. Cheng Tianbi used wind power to completely change the direction of the wind. All the stench, along with the pollen that Zhao Yinrong had scattered, flew in her direction.

Zhao Yinrong was horrified as a strong foul smell filled the air. Before the red mist reached her, she quickly closed her petals and rolled backward, hiding in the darkness.

Tang Yanqiu raised his bow but hesitated and put it down again.

Liu Fengyu shouted, "Shoot! What are you waiting for?"

Tang Yanqiu shook his head and replied, "I can't shoot a woman."

Liu Fengyu sneered at him, "It seems you can only shoot at men."

Tang Yanqiu was bewildered for a moment, then blushed, and angrily said, "How can you say such shameless things?"

Deng Xiao burst into laughter, and Cong Xia sighed deeply.

Zhuang Yao angrily said, "Enough, shut up! You're embarrassing us to death! Hurry up and kill that woman."

Cheng Tianbi took out his gun, but the light was too dim for him to aim properly. "Abu, move forward."

Yan Huiyang said, "No, we can't get close to that woman. Her pollen is very dangerous."

"What should we do then?"

Yan Huiyang thought for a moment and said, "She must be scared too and won't attack for the time being. Let's take a detour and avoid a direct confrontation if it's not necessary."

Zhuang Yao agreed, "Okay, let's take another route. Abu!"

The group slowly backed out of the narrow alley and took another path toward the laboratory.
