Chapter 22

Even after seeing it in person, looking back on it, it was an unbelievable story.

Even though he screamed, Azela didn’t answer, so Daniel glanced at Silvia, crying in her arms. He looked into her eyes to explain how this happened.

Feeling the gaze on her, Sylvia’s lips trembled as she dug into his arms.

“I’m, I’m scared, Daniel…!”

He gently patted her back, seeing her terrified.

“Shh, it’s okay. I’m with you. As long as I am here, no one can harm you.”

Contrary to the soft touch and voice, Daniel stared at Azela with an expression that seemed as though he was going to eat her. As the sharp eyes met her, she turned her gaze, expecting that look.

“No matter who it is.”

Daniel spoke as if aiming it at her.

Sylvia calmed down at his words, sniffling her nose and lifting her head from his arms to look at him. Both cheeks contained a lovely red light.

“I, I wanted to be friendly with Madam. The Madam seems to like bread, too. We had common interests, and I wanted to talk to her… All of a sudden, she told me the difference in status and grabbed my wrist tightly… Huhuuk.”

As she showed her red, swollen wrist to Daniel, she wept again.

Noticing that, his warm hand gently wrapped Sylvia’s swollen wrist. Her shoulders were trembling faintly.

“Ah, she suddenly said that she was going to make my hands unusable, and she did this…!”

Continuing her words, Sylvia held out her palm. Daniel’s handkerchief, tied tightly to her palm, was stained red with blood.

It was nonsense. All of the employees standing behind Daniel thought the same thing.

Now that Azela had no reason to do so, she wasn’t the fool to do that and deliberately left evidence in her bedroom. Moreover, she was a person who would never say such a thing because of her personality.

Conversely, Sylvia wouldn’t know.

Still, none of the employees said their opinion. They didn’t even open their lips because everyone knew that Irene, who had sided with her, had died horribly.

“Azela.”

…And, everyone knew that Daniel would believe Sylvia, even with these ridiculous and vain excuses.

“Are you a beast in human skin? If not, how could you do this without blinking an eye?”

“…Isn’t that a question you should ask yourself, Daniel, not me?”

Azela sighed in boredom.

At her rebuttal, the employees standing behind Daniel took a deep breath. It was the first time they had ever seen the Madam react like this while living in the mansion.

Daniel didn’t say anything, as if surprised, so he just stared at her.

“When you killed Irene, you didn’t care. However, you made a fuss that your person only injured one of her palms.”

“Are you saying that you did this because I killed Irene?”

Azela put a twisted smile on her lips at Daniel’s angry words.

As if that wasn’t enough, she touched her belly and laughed out loud. In the middle of her blood-smelling bedroom, she laughed happily, grabbing her belly. Meanwhile, Daniel and the employees behind him all looked at her with horror.

Laughing for a while, she eventually wiped the tears from her eyes with her index finger. She spoke, still with a happy expression.

“Did I? Did I say that I did it?”

“What?”

“No way in the world, Daniel. If I did…”

Azela glanced across the wall and stared at Sylvia in Daniel’s arms. Sylvia shrugged her shoulders again as she gazed at her with no emotion.

“…I wouldn’t have finished it with her palms. It’s just the palm of her hand.”

“Azela!”

Seeing her threatening casually, Daniel clasped Sylvia in his arms and screamed. Even so, she was still calm. He shuddered at this sight of Azela he had never seen before.

Although for a moment, he nodded with a ridiculous sneer.

“Right, is it an old habit?”

“A habit?”

“When you became a knight and made a name for yourself with your genius swordsmanship, many people died from being cut by that sword.”

“….!”

She glanced at Daniel with a wavering gaze at his words. It was Azela’s lifelong wound and guilt. Even when she was in love with him, and even after the marriage, she would always cry over her guilt for the people she had killed.

Whenever that happened, Daniel would comfort Azela. So, even though he knew herself that clearly, how could he bring it up casually…?

He looked at Azela absurdly, who was biting her lip without saying a word.

“Put that hurt face away.”

Daniel bit his teeth hard.

“It’s not the expression you would make after hurting others in your life. I said it clearly. Don’t touch Sylvia.”

He chewed on Azela and turned around. Seeing this, she clenched her fists tightly and raised her voice against Daniel’s back.

“You’d better take good care of your things, Daniel. You touched mine, too, so there’s no way I won’t touch yours.”

At Azela’s voice, he took Sylvia into his arms and stepped out of the bedroom.

Following Daniel’s footsteps, all the employees left the bedroom. As everyone left the bedroom, Azela took a deep breath of nervousness. It was over sooner than she thought. She thought he’d make a little more fuss and talk nonsense longer.

With that thought in mind, Azela, who sat on the bed, heard a creepy, horrifying clatter of iron in her ears. When she glanced up, she could hear a sound coming from the bedroom door.

‘What the hell is this…?’

It was a voice she had heard a lot. Azela’s expression turned blue after thinking for a while.

“Ma, Master.”

The voice of the handmaiden could be heard outside. Soon after, Daniel’s resolute voice was heard as well.

“If anyone puts their hand on these chains or secretly brings water or food to the Madam, I will decapitate her on the spot.”

“….!”

Azela hurriedly ran towards the door at the sound from outside her bedroom. She pulled her hands hard to open the door, but the locked door showed no sign of opening.

“What are you doing now?”

“You are a dangerous person to Sylvia right now. Reflect on what you have done there, Azela.”

“Open it now.”

“I will open it in five days. Until then, keep quiet. Nothing will change even if you don’t be quiet.”

He walked away, leaving that one word.

This couldn’t be. This couldn’t be…

She pulled the door back and forth. Still, it didn’t respond. All she could hear was the sound of footsteps going down the stairs.

Azela, who sat still holding the doorknob, bit her lower lip.

Even if she pretended to be okay, and tried to show her strength, Daniel always trampled her like this. And, she was collapsing again.

There was a big difference between arbitrarily refusing food by losing her appetite and being forced to starve by others. Obviously, when Irene died, it seemed that it was okay if she starved for longer than this and hadn’t drank any longer, but now, every day and every hour was hell and pain.

Three days have passed.

No one really came to her. There was no servant who wanted to take care of her like Irene with her courage. Everyone rushed to save themselves. She was not a sinner, and she wondered if they thought they should keep the Countess locked up like that.

However, Azela didn’t realize it until the third day…

He really wanted to lock her up for five days. This kind of criminal treatment was absolutely unacceptable.

Shutting her eyes, she couldn’t even tell if the place she was lying was the bed or the floor. Her head went blank, and she had no thoughts.

When she closed her eyes, the darkness in front of her was comfortable. She was comfortable with the darkness where she didn’t have to reveal herself, and she liked the darkness where she could hide herself.

Then, soon after, she laughed. To say that the dark was comfortable and she liked it, she must be going crazy.

As she was thinking about it, Azela suddenly felt her body floating. Was this really her body floating? Or, was she going crazy and feeling this way…?

It was said that sometimes crazy people feel this way.

As she was thinking about that, something moist touched her gaping lips. It was moist and soft, yet cool. What she could feel was a clear ‘touch.’

Startled by the touch of someone other than herself, Azela opened her eyes, which had been closed.

“You woke up.”

She met the deep purple eyes that held her in his arms… Deep, comforting eyes.

“Even if I poured you water, you couldn’t drink it, so I had no choice but to give it by mouth.”
