Chapter 3 - Everything is ready

 0

Zuo Xiaoduo looked at the neatly bundled roll of banknotes on the ground. It did not kindle joy at all, but rather he wasn’t quite sure what he was thinking anymore.

After a long time, he bent over to pick up the money and stuffed it down his pocket.

With regards to Zuo Xiaonian’s thoughts, Zuo Xiaoduo was fully and aware of her intentions.

Before Zuo Xiaoduo was born, Zuo Changlu and Wu Yuting had already adopted Zuo Xiaonian.

The young couple had no kids of their own but had chosen to adopt a baby girl.

Zuo Xiaoduo felt that there must have been a hidden motive behind the development of this story. However, he wasn’t sure of the reason.

When Zuo Xiaonian was three, she had already awakened her Star soul and had discovered her natural capabilities, Wu Yuting had suddenly gotten pregnant by accident and gave birth to Zuo Xiaoduo.

He was truly an accident.

After he had grown up, Zuo Xiaoduo had heard about this incident numerous times from his parents. The couple both felt that it was miraculous… They didn’t want to have any…

So naturally, Zuo Xiaoduo’s name was set in stone. (Xiaoduo, or 小多, means ‘little much’ in Chinese)

But after all, he was their biological child, what was there not to like about as they witness his daily growth? When Zuo Xiaoduo was three or four years old, Wu Yuting suddenly thought: “If there comes a day where she and Zuo Changlu were too old, having a pair of children who would depend on each other for the rest of their lives… Wouldn’t that be a wonderful affair?”

Unfortunately, Xiaonian had secretly listened in during one of their thoughtless discussion.

And this was how Zuo Xiaonian found out the truth about her birth origin. It turns out she was adopted. Unexpectedly, she remained settled in the Zuo household as their daughter-in-law…

Zuo Xiaoduo had grown older over these years, how could he not know what Zuo Xiaonian’s intentions were? Perhaps nothing has to be said when it comes to love… maybe? I guess maybe she felt reluctant to leave this family… or her desire to return her debt towards her parents’ kindness… I guess?

Although she was very talented, Zuo Xiaonian would turn down any sect cultivations no matter what. Regardless of the sect and the rank of the martial practitioner who would come as a negotiator, they were all turned down by Zuo Xiaonian.

I am right here, I belong to this family and I am not going anywhere!

Wu Yuting and Zuo Changlu had long felt remorse till their intestines had turned blue.

They have delayed their daughter’s future!

Who knew that this little girl was as stubborn as a mule?

Had it not been for Zuo Xiaonian maintaining her cultivation speed, Zuo Changlu and Wu Yuting would have probably felt even more guilty.

It was because of this when Zuo Xiaonian had once again mentioned getting married to Zuo Xiaoduo, that caused Zuo Changlu to be serious and strict with his words.

  ……

With a bang at the door, Zuo Xiaoduo had left the house.

Only then did Zuo Xiaonian breathed a sigh of relief. She felt like her face was burning.

Leaning against the door, her pretty face rosied. She felt her chest and reminisced how Zuo Xiaoduo had almost pressed his hands upon them. Her face blushed ferociously and she muttered: “If you dare to press yourself upon me, you are going to be a dead man!”

“Two different worlds… What different worlds!” Zuo Xiaonian’s face was as red as a tomato: “Humph, coward!”

After getting caught in a daze, she hurriedly prepared to leave. After all, the critical period of breaking through the Yin Yang realm didn’t allow any room for errors; she still needed to go to the Star Martial Academy to continue honing her cultivation.

As she got ready to go out, she had restored a face of indifference that felt so distant, a face that was as cold as the moon.

At the entrance, with a flash, she disappeared.

  ……

“Blood of the fingertips, the flawless jade, fish of Yin and Yang, a heart of the stars… ”

Zuo Xiaoduo kept on babbling on his way out.

Needlessly to say, this world was still quite beautiful.

At the very least, this flawless jade was not as expensive as the one that was presented within the dream world; the most valuable stone in the Star soul land would be the Star Soul stone; stones like jade, and stones that appear beautiful, were not as valuable.

As for the heart of the stars, it had to be the Star soul jade! Dad’s shop had plenty of it.

Although there are high-leveled and low-leveled ones,… at his current level, it seems that there was no use for those exceedingly high levels one.

And this thing was available in Dad’s shop.

Convenience!

As for the blood of the fingertips? A blade would be sufficient! And the fish of Yin and Yang… I only need to draw them!”

Hahahaha……

But eight thousand Star dollars, Zuo Xiaoduo bought a high-quality translucent white jade the size of a fan that he had his eye on since a long time ago. With his secret stash of money and the ten thousand dollars that he received from Zuo Xiaonian, Zuo Xiaoduo had an additional seven thousand dollars left.

He suddenly felt rich and powerful.

Then he proceeded to his dad’s shop which was selling Star soul stones.

“Changlu’s Star soul stone store”

Yes.

It was the name of this humble shop, which seemed to match Dad’s lazy personality - directly applying his name, practical and straightforward.

  ……

“Doggo?” Zuo Changlu was unloading the goods and was caught off guard when he saw his son enter: “You arrived at a timely moment. Quickly, come help me move these in.”

  “……”

Zuo Xiaoduo pouted his lips. It was a coincidence that he had walked in when they were unloading goods. This luck… was like no others, let’s just accept fate and get to work!

A whole truckload, nearly a thousand tonnes. The density of the Star soul stones was much denser than that of a high-grade jade. A stone that was as large as a fist could easily weigh more than five hundred grams.

So a large cartful of Star soul stones may not seem like much, but it was very heavy.

The shopkeepers nearby came to help. Zuo Xiaoduo sweated profusely and rushed to carry more into the shop. In the end, there were a few super big Star soul stones left. The father and son panted as they lugged the goods down along with a few other people’s assistance. Everyone was so tired they just sat there and kept on panting.

“Should have brought Xiaonian along… ” Zuo Xiaoduo stuck out his tongue. If Zuo Xiaonian was here, she would have been able to unload the truckload of goods with just a single hand.

“Haha… ” Zuo Changlu rolled his eyes at his son: “If you were a little more capable, not only would you have ascended to become a martial artist who could unload goods with ease, my dear beginner martial student.”

Zuo Xiaoduo only felt stifled down his indignance, and said bitterly: “Dad, I have a reputation.”

“... Cultivating five years amongst the beginner martial students, don’t you feel ashamed of yourself?...”

Zuo Changlu grunted: “Tell me, what are you doing? I will say this first, I am penniless! Go to your mother for money.”

Zuo Xiaoduo was aggravated: “I wanted to come and help you… help out in the shop.”

Zuo Xiaoduo snorted: “I do not need your help… School begins in two days, my dear martial student. Are you still the best of the weakest within your beginners class? I am so proud of you.”

Zuo Xiaoduo was so agitated that he almost collapsed.

It was his shame. An ordinary martial student was usually eight, nine-year-old kids. However, Zuo Xiaoduo was already seventeen but he still remained as a beginner, retaining five years, already made him a laughing stock.

The best of the weakest was true. Zuo Xiaoduo was not only the oldest but the biggest in the class, the next tallest one was only at his shoulder’s height… it was too embarrassing.

A few shopkeepers who came to help, suddenly burst out laughing.

One of them encouraged: “I think Xiaoduo is blossoming at a later age, he will graduate eventually! What do you think, Xiaoduo?”

Zuo Xiaoduo said that he had low blood sugar, and he was unable to speak. He spoke painfully: “I just moved a truckload of goods… It’s great that everyone is finally resting… Haiz.”

In the bursts of laughter, the crowd started to dissipate.

Zuo Changlu was a man of culture and he seldom gets angry. Zuo Xiaoduo was also an affable man and everyone got along just fine. But jokes aside, these shopowners felt bad for Zuo Xiaoduo for not being able to cultivate martial arts.

Watching this kid grow up, was like their own.

Although they were laughing, a few of the bosses also subtly sighed: “What a great child, why isn’t he suitable for cultivation?”

“That’s right! When we unloaded the goods earlier, Xiaoduo rushed to carry more, and he didn't let us and his dad carry the heavier cargo, and complained about nothing… Hey, my kid also can't practice martial arts, but is he half as good as Xiaoduo? If they were as sensible, even if they still couldn’t practice, I would still die with joy.”

“That sounds right. Everyone, please brainstorm for a solution, try privately seeking folk prescriptions bah.”

“Pity this filial and honest kid… there was no God… ”

  ……

Zuo Changlu squinted his eyes staring at his son: “Filial piety… is fine, but given your selfish character, how on earth did you manage to build an honest, hardworking image?”

Zuo Xiaoduo stared in disbelieve: “Dad, I am your biological son… ”

“If you continue to stay mum, then get lost. If you had no ulterior motives, would you come to help me with chores?” Zuo Changlu was very familiar with his son’s wickedness and looked disgusted: “Spit it out, what your intentions are.”

“Ahem… I just need a small piece of Star soul jade… ahem. Palm-sized would be sufficient, the bigger the merrier. It would be great if it was as big as the sky blue on the table… ” Zuo Xiaoduo started salivating, hustled behind his father, and massaged his shoulders diligently.

Wham!

Zuo Changlu revealed a shinning Star soul jade and slammed it onto the tabletop: “Take it and go!”. As the owner of a Star soul stone shop, there was no shortage of polished star soul jade. On top of that, the quality was not bad.

Top-quality!

“Thank you, my lord, for the reward!”

Zuo Xiaoduo instantly swiped it from the tabletop, with a beaming smile: “Your son will now take his leave.”

“Scram!”

  ……

So be it.

Anyways the necessary ingredients were all accounted for.

Zuo Xiaoduo joyously hugged the nicely-cut big circular white jade, along with the Star soul jade, and returned home triumphantly.
