The Duchess said, as she finally finished talking, taking a sip of the glass of water, awaiting Lady Melissa's response.
"Thank you mother, I appreciate you telling me this, and I'll make sure to live my life, but I live my life by seeing others around me happy, and not stressed. So would you help me live my life by giving some of your workload and father's to me?"
Lady Melissa cheekily said, hoping that her mother would give up and reply with a yes.
"You never give up do you?"
The Duchess sarcastically said, a little pleased with herself that she had managed to bring up such an amazing kind girl into the world, who wanted to help her parents.
Although it didn't seem much, it certainly would be a lot of help to her parents, even if she only helped by doing one page, they wouldn't mind.
It was the fact that Lady Melissa even wanted to help them in the first place that would touch their heart's.
"So I'll take that as a yes?"
Lady Melissa asked, awaiting for the Duchess' response to her this time.
"Fine, you win."
The Duchess replied, finally giving up to her daughter who was smiling proudly.
"Hold your horses darling, I'm not finished. Under the condition that you promise not to do too much of the work if you're stressed, and to always prioritize your mental health and well-being first before ours?"
The Duchess asked, wanting to make sure that her daughter wouldn't push herself too much or too hard.
"Don't worry mother, I shall do as you say."
Lady Melissa replied, a smile on her face, as she was excited that she could start being helpful to her parents.
"Alright, that's great, then you start on Monday, which is...."
The Duchess said, before pausing her sentence thinking of what day it currently was today before realizing that it was Saturday.
"You start on Monday."
The Duchess said, as Lady Melissa eagerly shaked her head.
"Oh and one more thing I would like to discuss with you. If you like a duke or a nobleman or somebody tell me alright? Although it's ultimately your choice whether you want to tell me or not."
The Duchess said, confusing Lady Melissa as she had just told her daughter to tell her if she had a crush on somebody, but the next second she told her daughter that it was her choice.
"Since you look a little confused, I'll say it better this time around. If you like a man, be it Duke, or nobleman then I'd prefer if you tell me so I can help you get with him and judge whether he is a good man for you or not."
The Duchess said, pausing for a few seconds before continuing.
"Look, I know you said you don't want me being nosy and a part of your personal life too much and I understand, but I do not want you being married to some rich sleazy douchebag who has multiple wives."
The Duchess said, not wanting Lady Melissa to ever marry a guy like that.
"I'm okay with it if you don't tell me, but I'd prefer it if you do. However, if you're not comfortable with that then it's okay, you don't have to tell me about it at all."
The Duchess said, taking a sip of water.
"Bottom line is, if you want to tell me then tell me, if you don't want to then don't."
The Duchess said, summarizing everything that she had just said to Lady Melissa.
"Noted Mother, and don't worry, my standards aren't that low. If I can't find a guy who treats and respects me equally, and is kind and caring, then I'll just stay single or adopt, it's a win-win for everyone!"
Lady Melissa said, already knowing that it would take perhaps centuries for her to even find a guy that would respect and treat her equally.
Most of the men still looked down on women and women still had to do more feminine activities, though they were now allowed to participate in more masculine activities.
"Anyways mother we should really order food so the chef can cook for us, I'm starting to get hungry."
Lady Melissa said to her mother.
"No worries dearie, I've already asked the chef to cook something before you have even arrived here."
The Duchess said to Lady Melissa.
"What did you order?"
Lady Melisssa curiously asked the Duchess.
"You'll see later, I tried it during the trip and it was delicious."
The Duchess said to Lady Melissa, in which Lady Melissa assumed the trip was the one her mother and father had just taken earlier in the carriage.
"Alright, I have high expectations for this since you seem like you really like it, mother."
Lady Melissa said, before the room went silent, though it was a comfortable silence, with Lady Melissa thinking of food, and her mother looking at her daughter.
'I wonder what kind of food that mother asked the chef to prepare. Is it something I've eaten before?'
Lady Melissa thought to herself, wondering if she had even eaten the food her mother ordered the chef to cook for them.
'Maybe, but from the looks on how mother was describing it earlier I don't think she's eaten it before, so that would mean I probably haven't eaten it either yet.'
Lady Melissa thought, wondering what was the food that her mother had ordered the chef to make for the both of them.
"Mother, may I ask why you were sick?"
Lady Melissa asked, only realizing that she didn't know the reason why her mother was sick during the trip.
"It was raining and I accidentally got rained on."
Her mother quickly and bluntly replied.
Lady Melissa knew her mother easily got sick but that didn't stop her from going outside with her father to make important business decisions.
"You are completely fine right now though mother?"
Lady Melissa asked her mother, wanting to make sure that her mother was once again fine.
"Don't worry dearie, I've told you this earlier and I'll tell you again. Don't worry about me, worry about yourself more."
The Duchess said, not wanting her daughter to worry too much about her.
