Lady Melissa would feel bad for the Crown Prince, that is if she hadn't found out the Crown Prince had brutally backstabbed his other brothers.

Lady Melissa understood that it was survival of the fittest, but she couldn't justify the Crown Prince's actions.

The Crown Prince had a chance to be someone better than his father, but he didn't.

When Lady Melissa had died, it was the day before the Crown Prince was going to be the new King.

And when Lady Melissa had heard the news of the Crown Prince finally becoming the new King, she was ecstatic, thinking that this way, they could finally reveal their relationship to the public.

And that Lady Melissa would be the new Queen, ruling beside the new King, as a couple.

However, it didn;t come true as Lady Melissa had died in that burning fire, that fateful day.

Lady Melissa assumed that the Crown Prince had done so, so that he could get rid of loose threads, one of them being her.

He already had what he approached Lady Melissa for, so what use was it to keep her around him any longer?

Besides, she could run her mouth at any given moment, and the Crown Prince had more important things to focus on, even though he could shut the rumours down as quickly as possible.

If even one person had believed in Lady Melissa, then everything he had done so far could go to waste.

He couldn't possibly silence all of the citizens, how was the country going to function without them?

And although there had been rumours circulating about the King making his sons fight for his attention, the public didn't believe it, or at least most of them didn't.

They couldn't believe that the King would make his sons fight to death simply for his attention.

After all, the King had always acted kind to the public, and to other nobles as well, during public appearances.

He had acted as if he genuinely cared for all of his citizens, including the nobles, and even the peasants.

The commoners couldn't believe that someone who was so kind- or at least seemed kind would make his son do such a horrible thing, and just for his attention.

There was no punishment for the sons if they lost the competition, only that they would get eliminated by their other siblings.

Lady Melissa wondered if all of the people who worked in the royal palace knew about this, including Duchess Ella and Duke Alphonso.

After all, they had to be in right? They had to know about this secret that the royal family had been hiding from everyone.

Maybe one of the employees that worked in the royal palace knew about this, and opened their mouth, though they had ended up getting silenced because of it sooner.

It sounded a little extreme to Lady Melissa, and she thought that maybe she was overthinking the smallest details, but she couldn't get the idea of it out of her head.

It would be there, even when she was busy, it would be at the back of her head, just lingering and staying there, and the idea wouldn't be leaving her head so soon either.

Lady Melissa had a gut feeling on this one too, that her theory was right and that the King had made his sons do such a thing.

But she knew she couldn't just assume and ask Duke Alphonso about it, if she accused the King of doing something like this, she could be executed.

Lady Melissa didn't even know why she thought of the King to do something like this, when all of her past interactions with him were him being nice and kind to her, but she knew not to judge a book by its cover.

She had judged people based on how they looked, multiple times in fact, and she had regretted that decision.

Although the King had a warm smile and acted kind to the public, there was no telling what his real personality was like.

In a way, everyone was fake, and that included Lady Melissa. Everybody would wear masks, as if to protect themselves from getting hurt or showing their true feelings, in fear of society judging their true feelings.

An example would be like Lady Melissa having to pretend to be happy, once she got a man's attention.

Even if the man was disgusting, or had done disgusting acts- or even if he was a 60 year old with multiple wives, she had to act thankful to earn his attention.

It was a weird concept to Lady Melissa why women and men were treated differently, when it was in the same situation.

When women were courted by men, they would be thankful, but if a woman had ever tried to court a man, then the man would immediately be embarrassed.

Lady Melissa understood that in some situations, men and women had to be treated differently, such as physically.

But, this wasn't something that was related to anything physical, neither men or women, so why were they treated so differently from each other?

And Lady Melissa knew if a woman had even dared to try and court a man then she would be immediately judged by  society.

Perhaps calling her shameless, and that she had no manners when it was something men had done to women a long time ago.

There was nothing wrong with a woman trying to court a man, or at least Lady Melissa didn't believe that there was something wrong with it.

It wasn't related to any criminal activity, nor was it illegal, society had just deemed it wrong for a woman to do something like that.

Even if the times have changed, some things could never be changed, but Lady Melissa wondered that maybe one day, she would be powerful enough to change the opinions of what people thought.

And that women and men would be treated equally more, though given if it was in a different situation they would be treated differently.
