"For what you did just now."

The Duchess calmly said, while her facial expression showed the exact opposite.

The Duchess was absolutely furious at her daughter for using such a tone on her.

"I will, once you and dad apologize to me."

Lady Melissa replied as the Duchess' rage was suddenly gone, and Lady Melissa stood up from her chair, staring at her mother.

"If there is nothing else, I'll go now."

Lady Melissa said, as she swayed her hips and walked back up the stairs, going to her room.

Lady Melissa felt proud of herself, she had stood up for herself, it wasn't the first time in her life that she had done such a thing, but it was the first time in her life that she had stood up against her parents.

Lady Melissa cared for her parents, she truly did, but they always thought they knew the best for her, without ever asking for her opinion when it was about her life.

Why were they allowed to make decisions for her? Were they the ones who were living the life Lady Melissa had?

Were they the ones that saw one of their loved ones getting executed because of the Crown Prince?

Were they the ones who had regretted almost every decision in their life that they made because it eventually led to getting dozens of people killed?

Least to say, Lady Melissa was absolutely furious, although she didn't seem like it.

She kept a calm composure while her fists were red as she kept holding on to them too tightly.

Lady Melissa just wanted her parents to think about how they would feel if they were in her position and a genuine and honest apology from them.

Was that so hard to do?

Lady Melissa had been the most obedient daughter she could be to them, yes, she had fought with them and disagreed with them a couple of times but she had always listened to them.

They had sacrificed a lot for her, and she needed them to understand that she had done the same for them.

Melissa needed them for once, to see things from her point of view, she had seen things from theirs, hence why she understood why they had to skip so many dinners, breakfasts and couldn't even spend a couple of minutes talking to her.

And to a certain extent, Lady Melissa was hurt, maybe even offended by them prioritizing work over her, but she was alright with it and was understanding because she had seen things from their point of view.

Lady Melissa had tried her best to be understanding and put herself in their shoes so she could know how they felt.

That's why she was offended, or even hurt when her parents hadn't even tried to do that.

They had never seen things in her shoes, and Lady Melissa knew they never would.

She thought that she had already made her peace with it, but turns out she was wrong, once again.

Melissa would apologize to her parents later on, but now she needed some time to relax.

Lady Melissa called for a maid, asking her to bring some chamomile tea for her.

"Get me some chamomile tea."

Lady Melissa said, as the maid quickly followed her orders, heading to the kitchen to brew some chamomile tea.

Soon enough, the maid emerged, this time a teapot on her left hand with Lady Melissa's empty glass on her right.

"Here you go Lady Melissa, I hope you enjoy the chamomile tea, I shall excuse myself now."

The maid said as Lady Melissa let out a sigh, feeling as if all her problems were solved with just a few sips of the chamomile tea.

Lady Melissa wished she had a tolerance of scorching hot tea, though unfortunately, she didn't have one.

Lady Melissa was starting to get sleepier, but she knew she couldn't fall asleep.

The brunette-haired woman would just come to haunt her dreams, and Lady Melissa just couldn't stand facing her, not right now, and certainly not today.

So, Lady Melissa decided that it was time for her to complete some paperwork, every time she had finished some paperwork there was always another pile.

It felt like a never-ending pile, but it wasn't completely bad with the amount of work Lady Melissa had.

This way, Melissa was able to distract herself from her numerous problems, at least for the time being.

It was a good way to put in her anger to or any emotions to at least.

Weirdly enough, Lady Melissa was also faster at doing her work when she was mad or angry.

Lady Melissa grabbed a bunch of paperwork that she needed to do from her drawers, as she let out a sigh, knowing that she was going to be in for a long night.

Although the never-ending pile of paperwork was certainly helpful to Lady Melissa as a distraction, it never meant that she had actually liked it.

She did like the fact that she was lessening her parent's burden with her helping out with paperwork, but actually doing the paperwork was a whole different story.

Nobody would actually like doing paperwork, it would give a lot of stress, and Lady Melissa could confirm that with the amount of hairs on her head that had gone gray since she had done paperwork.

After many hours, Lady Melissa had managed to finish some paperwork, as she glanced at the clock, wondering what time it was.

As Lady Melissa could get carried away when doing paperwork, getting too focused on it and ignoring everything else that was happening in the surroundings.

That was how Lady Melissa had managed to get things done quickly, by putting all her focus on the paperwork, and ignoring everything else, which was both a good and bad strategy.

Good because one could finish paperwork faster, bad because something important could be happening and one didn't know because they were too busy focusing on paperwork.
