Asher, Tiff, and Atalanta breathed heavily as they finally made it to the platform. Lyola and Tillie kissed them goodbye already, and decided to stay home. The fact that they had trouble walking also played into that decision.

“I did not think you would make it,” Tyranis said. His wives and other children were beside him. “Where is my daughter?”

“She had Chieftess stuff to do,” Asher said, limping over to his companions. He still hadn’t got the right height yet, and was struggling with a longer leg.

“We tried calling you,” Keera said.

“Yeah, sorry. Comm was on silent,” he lied. He wasn’t sure if there was a silent mode for them. “Look at the time, 1 minute to spare. We miss anything?”

His mother gave Asher and his girls a skeptical look. “No,” she said. “We were waiting for your stirring speech.”

“Umm, I guess, just don’t die. And let’s try to meet up again,” Asher said. More than a few people rolled their eyes.

“Remember that these are people. They are as scared as we are,” his mother said to them all. “They just want to go home. So don’t kill them.”

“Even the clones?” Abby asked. From the look his mother gave her they assumed that was a yes. Before he could say anything else, it all turned white.

“Great, more vague quests,” Asher said aloud dismissing the screen. He looked around, above was only 1 sun. The sky was blue and 2 moons were on either side of the sun. He guessed eclipses were common. The area around him was mostly green. The leaves and trees reminded him of a jungle, and part of him worried the Predator would be there. Not sensing any danger he brought up the Contribution Board.

He had used Cleanliness more times than he could count. Those he shared experience with received it every time he had sex, so that had raised as well. Healing Touch had leveled nicely, it now gave his girls a +3 HP per hour. Putting the screen away he used his Mana Sense. Immediately something appeared in his mind. It was almost straight ahead. Unsure what the huge source of mana was, he headed toward it. Pushing through brush and trees he found his first monster. He cast Identification.

Xare Hedgehog

Level 3

It was green and resembled a hedgehog, but it probably shot fire or something. He stared at it, but it didn’t do anything but run away. If it was blue he would have tried to catch it and name him Sonic.

Disappointed that there were no monsters to grind he made his way back toward the mass of mana he sensed. On guard, he never really ran into anything. He heard some birds above, some loud calls from other animals, but nothing approached him. Always scanning for Mana Branches he was leery to go jumping around until he figured out the theme of the Trial.

The mana source only became larger as he drew closer. Then finally he stepped out into a clearing. At the center of the clearing was what looked to be a stone hut. No traps apparent he stepped out to the grassy area and moved to stand in front of the hut. Now that he was closer he noticed that it was actually a covered stairway that led down. Reminded of stairways in the middle of nowhere that led to bunkers underground he was reluctant to go in. Part of him guessed this was one of the 35 Halls mentioned in the quest. Using Mana Sense he could tell that the large source of mana was directly underground.

As he decided on whether he should investigate or go find Tiff he sensed something else. Looking around he noticed some leaves shaking. So long spent fighting the Golden Jojo, he was still attuned to leaves jostling.

“Come out,” Asher said. Using Mana Sight he added. “I can see you.”

The humanoid figure didn’t try to hide anymore and Alfa was revealed. The pale man with the bald head, wide forehead, and black eyes stared at Asher just inside the clearing. “Hello, Lawful Good,” he said in a monotone voice.

“Hello, Chaotic Evil,” Asher said. Asher was tempted to call him Dr. Evil for short. The clone sneered. “Yeah, titles are annoying aren’t they? So what brings you here today?” Asher turned to face him. He was ready at any moment to fight, but then his eyes caught something big and red heading through the trees. “Well hello True Neutral.”

Ezarian the red demon walked into the clearing. The big man appeared surprised to see them. Asher still got the creeps from him. He did his best to ignore his Sunday school classes and give the guy the benefit of the doubt. A thought came to him and he cast Identification as he pulled his Monocle out.

Clone Hero

“A demon lord, in the flesh,” Asher marveled. “And a clone hero,” Asher whistled. “And me the lowest of the levels. Let me be first introduce myself. Our last meeting was cut short. I am Asher Whitmore, the Porn Star.” He bowed slightly to them.

“Ah yes, how was your imprisonment?” Alfa asked.

“A slap on the wrist,” he admitted. “Think those high humans spiked my drink. Or maybe the Burills had you sneak in something to throw me off,” he accused. The clone did not react, but from his placid face Asher hadn’t expected him to. There was a long silence between them. Neither made any sudden moves. “I’m surprised they made us teleport so  close together. Maybe the drama was getting to the System, and he wanted the final battle at the beginning.” He chuckled. “But before we throw down, I want to know. Alfa, I assume you have orders to kill me?”

Alfa did not react at first, but eventually there was a slight nod to his head. “I guessed as much. Anything on my people?”

“No,” he admitted.

“Good, then we can be civil. I will extend my offer to you guys again. Don’t kill my people, my people and I won’t kill yours,” Asher said pointing at them both. “Alfa, you can try to kill me all you want, I really don’t care. Just leave the others out. Can you both agree?” Ezarian’s sharp yellow eyes looked between them. Alfa’s black pits for eyes did the same. Slowly they nodded. “Good. Now fuck off, I found this place first. I called dibs.”

A beam of ice shot out from Alfa at him. Asher jumped, his body glowing white as his armor and sword appeared. More ice beams missed him.

A new beam of red and black mana shot out from Ezarian at him. Asher blocked it with Dragon Slayer only to hear a piercing scream in his mind. Thrown back he smacked hard into the trunk of a tree. A small snake hissed at him, but he ignored it.

Standing up still in a daze from the last hit he pushed off the tree. Hurtling through the air he noticed Ezarian and Alfa shooting beams of mana at one another. His blade arched over his head he sliced it down at Alfa. A clear barrier appeared around him. “Neat,” Asher said as he jumped from the barrier at Ezarian.

The big red devil cursed. Raising his hands a black portal appeared between them. Asher yelled as bat-like demons appeared from the portal, hurtling at him. Using his sword as a shield they screeched as they thunked against the thick steel.

“Is that Havoc Mana?” Asher asked, but he already knew the answer. In Mana Sight the black mana laced with red was easy to discern.

Ezarian jumped back out of Dragon Slayer’s reach. Asher sensed the mana shift behind him and ducked under the fist covered in lava. Pushing mana into his sword he slashed at Alfa, but again a barrier appeared between them. Asher was done playing around. Mana circulated throughout him much more quickly as he started hitting the barriers that surrounded the clone.

They made thunk noises, one after another. Powerstrike filling his sword with mana, Asher poured more into it until one of the barriers shattered. Most of the momentum gone, Asher twisted to get another big one into him but the clone flew up and away. No longer interested in the fight Asher turned to Ezarian.

“Thanks for waiting,” Asher said to the devil. The red guy nodded. “Shall we?” Asher asked as he cast Judgement into his sword. Ezarian nodded as his long nailed hand began to glow. His talon-like nails increased in thickness and length, the Havoc made it very deadly. Asher ran at him, his sword glowing white.

Ezarian did the same, his fist a dark pit that no light could pass through. When they were a step away Asher made his sword extend with the mana from Judgement and sliced down. Severing Ezarian’s arm off the Havoc mana spread throughout it uncontrollably. The big man screamed a deep bellow and fell off to the side.

“That’s the trouble with Havoc Mana,” Asher said as the man’s once arm turned into dust. “Very unruly.”

He looked down to Ezarian. Part of him was tempted to finish his foe off, but he didn’t want his mother pissed at him. Besides, he appeared decent for a Demon Lord. Maybe someday they would get their own buddy cop drama. The preacher’s kid and the devil.

Asher turned back to the bunker entrance. He still felt the immense amount of mana below. Since he had fought so hard for the honor, he decided to at least check it out. Heading in he stayed in Mana Sight, but didn’t see much. It was a simple rock staircase that headed down into the Earth.

His hand on the cool stone beside him the temperature dropped as the back of his mind counted stairs. After 152 he finally came to a door. Large amounts of mana hid behind the wood door. With a gulp he pushed it and stepped through. Torches lit the room. It reminded Asher of a Japanese Dojo. Rice paper flooring and ceiling panels, white walls in a wide open space there wasn’t anything fancy about it. On the far end of the room was another doorway. Asher was about to walk toward it when the pop-up came.
