Ch1 - Sāntúchuān

Translator-Rhapsodite

In mid-April, after a late spring cold, the temperature gradually rose.

Saturday, April 17.

Today’s weather was not very good.

Thick Fog swept in from the middle of the night, and the sunshine could not penetrate the clouds. At 6:10 in the morning, Fèng Xīngchéng city was shrouded in haze.

In an alley in the old city, an iron gate opened a crack, and a man in a dark brown wind coat pulled his suitcase and walked out slowly.

His movements were very light, obviously not wanting to disturb others.

But when he turned around to close the door, a young male voice rang.

“You are leaving now?”

The man in the wind coat looked up.

A young man came out of the entrance in his nightgown, covered his mouth, and yawned.

He was in his early twenties. He was tall and had delicate facial characteristics such as a high nose and small lips. His pupils were dilated and extended. His eye corners were somewhat upward curved. His complexion was porcelain white, and his hair and eyes were chestnut colored. He gave people the impression that he was a half-breed .

“Well, the high-speed train leaves at 7:15 .”

The man with the suitcase nodded.

“Bon voyage.” The young man answered very simply and waved to the other party.

“……”

The man in the wind coat hesitated a little, but he couldn’t help asking, “What will you do when you…”

There was a vagueness to that question, but the young man understood.

“It doesn’t matter. Anyway, the master will arrange for a new person to come here next month. ” As he smiled, the young man’s eyes curled up.

The man in the wind coat wanted to say something, opened his mouth, and swallowed it back.

“Then…” he heaved a sigh, “Bei Quan, take care of yourself. Goodbye.”

With that, the wind coat man dragged his suitcase into the foggy old alley.

The young man, who was called Bei Quan, stood at the entrance, crossing his arms across his chest and watched the figure of the man in the wind coat disappear into the thick fog.

“Oh, this was  the third one… I’m such a scum. ”

He reached out and grabbed his chestnut hair.

“But the problem of people shortage during this time, I need to solve it.”

While talking to himself, Bei Quan turned around and walked to a table next to the porch. He bent over and rummaged in the drawer for a while and took out a marker pen and a piece of A4 paper.

After pulling out the pen cover, he wrote down a recruitment notice:

[Sāntúchuān Broadcasting Company is now looking for an assistant.]

Wei Fuyuan, who was sitting in the back seat, frowned, showing some impatience on his face, but he still nodded.

“En.” He answered in one word.

The taxi pulled to the side of the intersection. Wei Fuyuan got out of the car, turned on the mobile phone navigation, confirmed the direction, crossed a pothole roadbed, and turned into an alley.

Wei Fuyuan was a native of Fèng Xīngchéng, although he was a rich second-generation miner’s son. He resided in a large apartment in the new urban area. In his memory, there were just a few trips to this location, and most of them were just passing by.

As a thousand-year-old capital, Fèng Xīngchéng city still preserved the years old design, with square blocks, alleyways, and terraces, and buildings that were also extremely low. The majority of the residences on the street were over 30 years old. Despite several renovations, they were still unable to disguise the traces of time.

Wei Fuyuan looked down at his phone as he walked.

The signal in the alley was poor, and it took several minutes to load the map directions. When you glanced down, you would see that the little triangle of location often lept abruptly.

He was unfamiliar with the area, and navigation was difficult, so Master Wei was understandably lost after twenty minutes.

He stood in an unfamiliar narrow lane cluster, irritably refreshing his phone.

However, no matter which map he chooses, it either displayed that the network connection had failed or the cursor spasmed. The difference in placement between the two places was more than half a kilometer.

“Fuck!”

Wei Fuyuan was so angry that he wanted to smash the phone.

Young master Wei, who was born with a golden spoon, had not been so aggrieved for a long time.

He felt that he had been in inverse water recently and that the eight words had reached their limit.

Wei Fuyuan, 21, was a junior majoring in business administration at Fèng Xīngchéng University.

He was tall and attractive. All year, he trained in Karate and Kung Fu. He was a professional model who could quickly adapt any appearance and figure. With outstanding grades and an excellent family background, he was a model of a winner in life.

So far, his biggest setback had been missing out on a gold medal opportunity due to a shoulder dislocation on the night of the karate competition.

However, just half a year ago, he went home to celebrate his mother’s birthday. At the dinner party, he drank a little too much. He was so intoxicated that a slip of the tongue caused him to reveal his sexual orientation in front of his relatives.

Master Wei came out of this closet really boldly, and the consequences were very serious.

Mother Wei was so frightened that she almost fainted, while Father Wei was so angry that he drove him out of the banquet on the spot, forbidden him to go home, and stopped all his sources of income.

A penny forced a good man to die.

After six months, the young master who never worried about snacks finally realized the pain of breaking a Yuan into two.

Wei Fuyuan’s savings were nearly depleted. He could no longer afford to pay 6000 yuan per month for an elite single loft apartment. He did not have a dormitory because he was a day student. He was on the point of sleeping on the street.

He didn’t want to subdue his parents, he refused to ask for help from relatives and friends for the sake of face, and he couldn’t let his classmates realize his predicament…

No way! Wei Fuyuan could only think of working to earn living expenses by himself.

It’s just that it was not so easy to find a job that wouldn’t affect his studies.

Although his major junior year assignments were not onerous, he couldn’t ask for leave frequently. He could only choose jobs with flexible working hours.

Young master Wei was also concerned about being discovered by his acquaintances. He wouldn’t consider tasks such as delivering takeaway dishes, washing dishes, and handing out flyers. Furthermore, he was subjected to tough working circumstances, such as working far from school and earning a lot of money for food and housing, making it more difficult to find a suitable job.

He spent two days on various recruitment websites before finally finding a part-time job as a tallyman in a supermarket warehouse in this old urban area. Although the money was much less than expected, he didn’t need to show his face when working in the warehouse and could still live in the duty room at night, which was barely enough.

Today, Wei Fuyuan was here for an interview.

It’s just that he never expected that he would get lost in the alley.

The warehouse should be nearby. However, the navigation had been turning around. Wei Fuyuan walked back and forth three times on this road, but he couldn’t figure out the way.

“Lao Tzu, what kind of ghost is this!”

When he passed the same alley for the third time, the irascible young master Wei finally broke out.

He wanted to find someone to ask for directions, but it was nine o’clock in the morning on the weekend, yet the alley was very quiet.

Every door and every window that Wei Fuyuan passed through was tightly closed. For ten minutes, let alone a living person, he didn’t even see a stray cat or dog.

The surroundings were so quiet that a drop of a needle could be heard.

The chilly spring wind that had been blowing for a time abruptly ceased, causing the entire area to become stalled without Wei Fuyuan’s awareness.

Standing in the empty alley, Wei Fuyuan shuddered suddenly.

Suddenly, he felt that even the concrete pavement under his feet looked unreal.

But how can there be a ghost in broad daylight?

As a staunch materialist, Wei Fuyuan never believed in ghosts and gods.

Moreover, he asked himself a man who was nearly 1.9 meters tall and was still young. He was sure that he was masculine. How could anyone dare to attack him?

He comforted himself so much, but his steps were involuntarily getting faster and faster.

——This was just an alley!

Wei Fuyuan forcibly resisted his inner anxiety and kept telling himself, “I am just lost, just lost!”

In April, the temperature in Fèng Xīngchéng city was only about ten degrees.Wei Fuyuan, relying on his youth and strong firepower, only wore a thin knitted vest with a coat, which was not really “warm” for this weather.

But at this time, he was already sweating; large drops of cold sweat slid down his forehead, soaking the shirt collar.

One step, two steps, three steps…

Wei Fuyuan felt extremely anxious, accelerated under his feet, and began to trot involuntarily.

Why can’t I get out of this alley!

As he raced, he anxiously swiped his phone, attempting to recover his right place in the navigation.

Just as he turned a certain corner, a door in front of him opened without warning.

“Bang!”

Wei Fuyuan was startled when the door unexpectedly opened. He trotted all the way, and couldn’t stop himself, and ran straight into the door.

Master Wei sat on the ground, gripping his forehead, the door panel rebounded violently, and he let out a low exclamation.

He clutched his forehead and raised his head.

“Fuck your ancestor–”

Half of what he said was stuck directly in his throat.

A young man poked his head from behind the door panel and was staring at him with a surprised expression.

One had to say that the person’s appearance was too in line with the aesthetics of Master Wei.

This man’s beauty was such that it could overturn cities and ruin states. His features were exquisite and profound. When combined with a thin face, it exhibits a bright and beautiful temperament that makes it impossible to look away. It appears to be a carved white jade puppet, with snow-white skin and somewhat light pupil and hair color.

Wei Fuyuan was very frightened today. He slammed his head against the door panel and smashed his ass sturdily. He should have been in a bad mood, but the person who caused the accident was a handsome man. He thought he could be more tolerant.

“Hello,” The handsome guy behind the door turned his head crooked. “Are you ok?”

Wei Fuyuan got up and patted the dust on his pants.

” No. I’m fine.”

“I seem to be lost… How do I get to Jinhe Supermarket? ”

“Jinhe Supermarket?” The man raised his eyebrows, raised his hand, and pointed at Wei Fuyuan’s back, “Go along this alley, there is a crossroad 100 meters later, turn right and you will be there.”

Wei Fuyuan didn’t say that he had to gone around this lane at least three or five times but didn’t see any crossroads. At the same time, he looked back—

He gasped.

Half a minute ago, there was no one in the alley. He didn’t recall when an old man was walking slowly with a birdcage. Further away, a middle-aged woman came out of her yard with a bucket and stood on the steps to spray water.

A slightly chilly east wind blew his neck, and Wei Fuyuan shivered suddenly.

The sound of wind, birdsong, splashing water, the rustling of branches and leaves, and some unknown fine noises…

Wei Fuyuan was a little confused about whether he was bewitched or not.

Otherwise, how could he have had the illusion that just now, the moment he glanced back, it seemed he had returned to the world from an unknown place.

“Thank you.”

Wei Fuyuan turned his head and dryly thanked the handsome youth who showed him the way.

The other party smiled without answering.

“Hey, Bei Quan!”

At this time, a young woman’s voice came from the house, “you just opened the door, can you hurry up?”

“Coming,” said the man named  Bei Quan as he shut the door. He turned around and returned to the house.

Wei Fuyuan noticed that the old two-story building in front of him turned out to be a broadcasting company called “Sāntúchuān”.

——Did I see this company just now?

Master Wei was very confused.

Wei Fuyuan had gone back and forth in this Alley three or five times because he had lost his way. He was familiar with the buildings on both sides, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recollect seeing the small building with red brick walls.

But he didn’t have time to delve into this issue.

Because Wei Fuyuan made a mistake, he happened to see the recruitment notice posted on the doorpost.
