Qilin Kai felt like he had discovered the biggest secret. His annoying 'best at everything' cousin had been met with a misfortune. This was the greatest news for him. He had held on to this keystone for years waiting for his cousin to show up at his doorstep and kill her with the Hundan but after that long wait, she never showed her face.

He even hoped that she would kill Huishe Yue when she went in search for the keystone under the imperial palace. Her dislike for the Huishe clan ran deeper than most because she always wanted to please her father. This is why he thought she could finish Huishe Yue off after he had suffered years of torment.

Unfortunately for him, it was his open-minded distant nephew with no knowledge of the hatred between their clans who found Huishe Yue and placed him under his wing. That was indeed a big disappointment on his part.

But now figuring out the true reason for Qilin Hao's absence his spirits lifted. He just wanted to get away from this place and finish her off while she was weak then take all the keystones in Ji Yao's possession and find a way to kill that man so he can finally have peace of mind.

"I think it is for your benefit if you tell her about me because..... if she happens to find out you kept this from her you will suffer a fate worse than death," he said his eyes reflecting a hint of arrogance.

Qilin Luse looked down at his well-trimmed nails on his left hand with a domineering air around him. He slowly lifted his gaze towards him with a fierce look in his dark eyes like a sinister ghost that had targeted new prey.

The smile on Qilin Kai's face froze as he was familiar with that bloodthirsty look he had only seen on hunting grounds when they slaughtered beasts. His expression soon changed to that of panic when Qilin Luse somehow passed through the bars like a ghost. Qilin Kai's eyes widened as he pointed at him with a shaky finger stammering, "Im-impossible."

Qilin Luse seemed to enjoy his look of fright very much. He moved even closer towering over him as he said, "Her highness' power is beyond everyone's expectations. This little trick is something she mastered more than a century ago and she passed it down to her subordinates."

With the palm of his left-hand slight stretched on his side, a flaming twenty-inch sword materialized in his hand. "It's inevitable.... Qilin Kai, your time has come," he said in a tone suited for an executioner.

A terrified Qilin Kai crawled backwards unwilling to die. He had a lot of things he wanted to do, people he had to punish so how could he accept it so easily. Death to him wasn't an option but what could he do? Qilin Luse had come on behalf of the grim reaper to take his life.

Maybe it was his urgent need to survive or his desire to exact revenge that made him achieve what could be considered impossible for him. With all his strength he struggled to activate his aether being suppressed by the poison coursing through his veins and binding his wrists and ankles.

Qilin Kai continued to crawl backwards fleeing the grip of death coming towards him in slow strides as he tried to activate his aether. But after several tries, nothing happened.

His aetherial veins were as cold as ice. The warmth and vitality from his seraphic energy had dried a long time ago. He was like an empty shell with no purpose for existence. It was a barren land left to waste away with no care.

Qilin Luse found this rather amusing as he pointed the tip of his flaming sword at his former master. The intense heat was enough to scald the skin from a distance. Sweating profusely from trying to activate his aether Qilin Kai began to breathe heavily as he crawled away. His face grew pale when his back hit something cold and the sweat on his back plastered on the fabric of his robe. He had run out of room as he had reached the wall.

Terrified out of his mind he faced the sword drawing closer and closer. Thinking he was going to die his gaze focused on the blade that was about to cut him down like chives.

Just as Qilin Luse raised the sword ready to strike a tiny spark of seraphic energy ignited in Qilin Kai's aether sending a distress signal to the most unexpected person.

As a Qilin, Ji Yao perceived that signal in a matter of seconds. He had just arrived on board with Rui Fei hot on his trail when he sensed something he had never experienced before. He could easily interpret the meaning but how was the question he couldn't answer.

It was like an inborn instinct that he didn't know existed. Not considering the fine details of this matter he rushed outside towards the brig leaving behind a stupefied Rui Fei.

Bang!

Ji Yao forcefully pushed open the door resulting in a loud bang when it hit the wall. With his sword hovering beside him he strode in with a dark expression. Qilin Kai who had been afraid a second ago suddenly grinned maliciously at Qilin Luse when he heard that banging sound.

Qilin Luse's face twitched before he vanished on the spot leaving tiny ambers of flames falling to the ground. By the time Ji Yao reached Qilin Kai, Qilin Luse had disappeared.

"What was that?" asked Ji Yao with his sword lunging at Qilin Kai with a loud shing sound like it was begging, 'please let me kill him.' The sword stopped right in between Qilin Kai's eyebrows grazing the skin a little.

Qilin Kai raised his hand in surrender with a nervous smile as he said, "Chill..... just-just relax. I didn't mean to rile this young master up." With his middle and index fingers joined together he carefully pushed the blade of the sword away saying, "Down boy. You can't disobey your master."

The sword was displeased by his touch so much that it made loud shing noises in dissatisfaction. Seeing the situation, Ji Yao recalled his sword before sheathing it. He stood there glaring at Qilin Kai with a gaze that could shake the brawniest of men and Qilin Kai was no exception.

The only difference was that he was good at hiding his emotions ninety per cent of the time. "I am so hungry.... for the past few days you have been feeding me vegetables non stop and my stomach is now upset. If you keep feeding me this crap I might end up growing bunny ears."

As he said this he rubbed his stomach authenticating his claim.
