Chapter 64 Catching the Culprits Red-Handed

More than a dozen coast guards, clad in bulletproof vests and armed with guns, boarded the fishing vessel via the rope at the stern and quickly split into two columns, storming towards the steering cabin.

The glass on the stairs outside the cabin had shattered into pieces, a result of the earlier gunshots fired by the coast guards. On the deck directly below the stairs, numerous boxes of gold bars were stacked.

The coast guards rushed up the stairs and saw that the interior of the steering cabin was already on fire, with flames leaping more than a meter high. Combustible items such as seats, daily necessities for the captain and co-pilot, and folding beds for resting had all been set alight.

"Extinguish the fire! Extinguish the fire!" shouted the leading coast guard as he smashed open the nearby fireproof box and grabbed the fire extinguishers and water hose to rescue the cabin.

Downstairs, two coast guards opened the narrow resting cabin and found Feng Hai and a dozen members of the criminal gang tied up together, their mouths gagged, rendering them unable to call for help.

The leading coast guard immediately used his intercom to inform Tang Baiqing, "Tang team, we've found members of the criminal gang in the cabin."

Upon hearing this, Tang Baiqing's mind went blank for a moment. Both the people and the goods were on the ship, so there was no need to investigate any further. They had caught the culprits red-handed and could bring them to court.

"Release Feng Hai and let him handle the most troublesome matter on the ship," Tang Baiqing quickly responded. His intention was to temporarily release Feng Hai and see if they could quickly take the gold bars away.

The coast guards followed his orders and untied Feng Hai and the other three individuals.

On the surface of the Dragon River, several speedboats rushed past East Dragon Bridge, slicing through the water in pursuit. Their target was Kong Zhenghui and Su Tianyu, but the terrain here was complex once they crossed the bridge. Surrounding them were drainage channels and floodgates built by the water management department to regulate water levels.

The Dragon River was not narrow either. As they headed inland, the width increased, and the area had a tropical climate. The banks were covered in lush green trees and forests.

With so many drainage channels and floodgates, not to mention countless forests and green spaces on both sides, how could the coast guard find them in the darkness? The hijacking was sudden and caught the coast guard on duty off guard. When the perpetrators rushed out, the coast guard was still half asleep and confused.

After searching aimlessly on the river for half a day, the coast guard found nothing.

In a dense forest by the bank, Su Tianyu ran ahead like a large wolfhound, with Kong Zhenghui following behind.

"How did you get out?" Kong Zhenghui asked.

"The coast guard was all behind me. What could I do? I crawled out from the lower deck!" Su Tianyu shook his thighs, his speed rivaling that of a track and field champion. "Hurry up, we have to go to another area."

"Okay." Kong Zhenghui's stamina was average, but he gritted his teeth and ran after Su Tianyu.

Tang Baiqing rushed to the scene and boarded the speedboat, urgently asking, "Where're the goods? Where're the goods?"

"We can't take them away, Captain Tang. There's too much of it, and look at the shore," the lead maritime police officer replied in a low voice.

At these words, Tang Baiqing looked to either side of the shore and saw at least thirty onlookers standing on East Dragon Bridge. These were street vendors from the surrounding area who did business at night. They had heard the gunshots and firecracker-like sounds on the sea and had come to watch the commotion. Of course, this was under the condition that the maritime police had already taken control of the area. Otherwise, they would not have come so close and risked being hit by stray bullets.

Apart from the gawkers on East Dragon Bridge, there were also many residents in the buildings on both sides of the shore, peering out of their windows, watching and taking pictures with their phones.

Once they entered the mouth of the Dragon River, the two sides of the shore became residential areas. With such a big commotion on the sea, it was impossible not to attract attention!

Tang Baiqing's face turned pale with anxiety and he growled, "Get Lao He and the others over here. Even if we have to force it, we have to get the goods out of here. I'll write tomorrow's report myself."

After thinking for a moment, the maritime police immediately took the walkie-talkie and organized people to move the goods, and notified the police on the road to send a car for support.

"Buzz buzz buzz!"

Just as Tang Baiqing was about to forcibly remove the gold bricks from the ship, a police siren suddenly sounded on the shore. Six police cars drove over from the east and stopped directly at the side of East Dragon Bridge.

When Tang Baiqing saw this scene, he was stunned. He didn't know what to do and felt exhausted.

More than twenty police officers got out of the six police cars. Their uniforms were completely different from those of the maritime police, and it was obvious that they were from the police department.

The leading police officer stepped onto East Dragon Bridge, shouting up to the coast guard on the speedboat, "I'm the police chief of Zhanan district. What's going on here?"

"It's smuggling," the coast guard replied stiffly.

"Have you apprehended the people on the boat?" asked a Zhanan district police officer, shouting again.

"Yes, there are over ten people," the coast guard gritted his teeth.

"Damn! This is too audacious. Smugglers bringing their boats up the inland river? Did the driver smoke too much?" The Zhanan district police officer had a sharp tongue.

The coast guard team remained silent.

"Brothers, once this boat crosses East Dragon Bridge, it's our turn to take action." The Zhanan district police officer lowered his head and shouted again, "Don't touch anything on the boat. We need to investigate the scene first!"

Tang Baiqing's forehead bulged with anger as he picked up his phone, preparing to use his connections to persuade the Zhanan district police officer to let them handle the case.

"Buzz!"

Before he could even dial, two media vans from the Zhanan district pulled up behind the police car.

The media workers stepped out of the cars and immediately set up their equipment.

"Welcome to Waka News. Tonight, a fishing boat broke through the Dragon River entrance to our city and engaged in a shootout with our local coast guard, causing the boat to catch fire. Now, let's interview the coast guard officers and ask about the situation..." The host rambled on for a bit, then stepped down the stairs.

Tang Baiqing looked at them and muttered, "Motherf***ers! This must be a trap!"

Fifteen minutes later, Xu Hu's car rushed to the shore. Before he could even step out of the vehicle, he was greeted by the media and inland law enforcement officials who had already sealed off East Dragon Bridge.

Xu Hu picked up his phone and dialed Tang Baiqing's number. "Hello? Baiqing!" he exclaimed.

"I'm not Baiqing. He's being interviewed, and his phone is with me," came the response.

"What the hell? It's been so long, and he's still doing interviews? Is he using this to promote his political achievements?" Xu Hu exploded with frustration. "What about the goods? Have they made it through the waterway?"

"No, they're still stuck on the ship," came the reply.

—---

In a high-end apartment in the city, a nearly sixty-year-old man dressed in pajamas sat on his bed. "What's going on? The maritime police receive so much money every year, and they can't even protect such important goods?"

Early the next morning at around six o'clock, on Guangji Island.

An Qiqi was wearing very tight sportswear and doing stretches in front of her tent. Su Tianyu, Bai Hongbo, Su Tianbei, and Kong Zhenghui walked back from a distance.

"Where did you guys go?" An Qiqi asked Su Tianyu.

"We went for a morning workout!" Su Tianyu replied.

"I don't believe you. You guys left in the middle of the night," An Qiqi looked at him suspiciously.

"I couldn't sleep, so we took a stroll around," Su Tianyu said casually and walked towards the side where Yu Mingyuan was.

Bai Hongbo followed closely behind and whispered to Su Tianyu, "She seems to have noticed something. Should we silence her?"

Not far away, Yu Mingyuan sat under a parasol, having not slept all night. He held three cellphones and was stabbing his opponents at the port one by one.
