Chapter 72 Run!

Inside the police hospital, the officer in charge of guarding Wu Shixiong pushed open the door to the stairwell and dialed a number: "Hey, yeah, we have a suspect who's injured. Yeah, it's on my watch. I brought him out here to get treatment, but the hospital is really busy and we've been waiting all night. No one's been taking care of us. Yeah, could you help me make a call? Alright, I'm waiting outside the surgical department on the second floor... Alright, thanks a lot, Lao Wang. I'll come visit your house during the new year!"

After hanging up the phone, the officer returned to the corridor and grumbled, "Just one call and I have to give another gift during the new year."

"Well, it's better than waiting for nothing," replied the colleague sitting next to Wu Shixiong.

The officer sat down and turned to Wu Shixiong, asking, "You're injured. Should I call your family and let them know so they can come see you?"

Wu Shixiong was intellectually disabled, but he had a sensitive mind. He might be slow to react, but he would think things through. It was not difficult to guess the officer's intentions.

The four officers had been dealing with him all day, and it was obvious that they were hoping for some compensation or something for their trouble. With the new year approaching, people would be visiting from his family and he couldn't let them leave empty-handed.

Wu Shixiong understood this, but still lowered his head and replied, "I... there's no one in my family who's willing to take care of me."

Upon hearing this, the officer sneered and cursed, "Look at you, useless and dumb. When you get sentenced and sent to a regular prison, you'll be killed sooner or later."

To others, the officer's words may seem inconsequential, but after hearing them, Wu Shixiong's body trembled and his eyes filled with fear. What could the prison be like if it was harder to survive in than the current detention center? Wu Shixiong was truly terrified, his face pale and his eyes restless.

The officer paid him no further attention and turned to chat with his colleagues. After about five minutes, a young doctor hurried down the stairs and addressed the officer in a concise manner, "Dr. Wang's friend?"

"Yes," the officer immediately stood up. "We brought the suspect here for treatment."

"Where is he injured?" asked the young doctor.

"Eyes, nasal bone, and possibly ribs..."

"Explosive fire, the ophthalmology department is also very busy," the young doctor briefly examined Wu Shixiong's injuries and said, "Come on, let's find a place, I'll take care of him, it doesn't seem to be too serious."

"Good, good." The officer immediately called out, "Let's go, hurry!"

Normally, even if Wu Shixiong was seeking medical treatment, he would still have to go through an iron door and receive treatment in a clinic inside the detention center. However, today was a special circumstance - the clinic upstairs was full of inmates who were manufacturing explosives, so the young doctor led everyone to his own office area, which did not require passing through an iron door and was not much different from a regular hospital clinic.

As the man entered the room, the young doctor turned and asked, "What's his crime?"

"Murder," the officer replied.

"Murder?" The young doctor was taken aback.

"He has intellectual disabilities and it was unintentional manslaughter. The other person attacked him and he hit her with a hammer, unfortunately killing her," the officer explained. "It's not a serious offense."

The young doctor relaxed a bit upon hearing this and pointed to the bed, saying, "Take off his chains and let me examine him. He'll need to go through some tests later, including orthopedics and ophthalmology."

This situation was not uncommon. Whenever a suspect needed to undergo CT scans or any other medical treatment, they had to be unshackled. So, the officer bent down with the keys and unlocked the chains, but only removed one foot, leaving the other still bound.

"Be careful not to hit the ground and damage it," the young doctor reminded him.

"Okay!" The man nodded, lifting the chain with his left hand and then sitting down on the half-reclining chair.

While the young doctor examined the injured areas, the other four officers waited outside.

About fifteen minutes later, the young doctor finished washing the man's eyes and shouted, "His eyes are okay, just a little swollen from the blow. He should take some anti-inflammatory drugs and get two shots. But his ribs hurt, so he needs to go to the orthopedic department for a CT scan to see if there are any fractures."

"He needs to do a CT scan too?" the officer asked.

"Of course he does! You should go fill out the paperwork," the young doctor replied.

"Damn it, I never had to serve my old man like this when he passed away." The police officer cursed, clutching his ticket and hurrying towards the orthopedic department.

"You guys watch him, I'll go upstairs." The young doctor was also busy. Seeing that Wu Shixiong was okay, he turned and walked out of the clinic.

Wu Shixiong was sitting on a half-reclining chair at the moment, suddenly noticing that the number of people in the corridor had decreased due to the time, and there were only three police officers at the door.

Suppressive, desperate, confused, fearful, and even negative emotions with a hint of unwillingness, almost rushed into his brain uncontrollably as soon as Wu Shixiong saw the situation outside.

Before entering the hospital, Wu Shixiong had no thoughts of crossing any lines in his mind, and was even considering how to face those who had beaten him up when he returned to prison. But at this moment, his thoughts uncontrollably changed.

It seemed like he could leave!

If he left, he wouldn't have to face those inmates, the guards, or the police who bullied him every day.

If he left, he wouldn't have to be sentenced and sent to a worse, more terrifying prison, as others had described it.

If he left, perhaps he could even have a full meal and see the magnificent fireworks outside on New Year's Eve...

Even if he died, it seemed like there was nothing he couldn't accept. Perhaps he could even be relieved of his troubles!

In an instant, a fleeting thought broke through all of Wu Shixiong's burdens and rationality. He looked down at the handcuffs on his legs and inexplicably shouted, "Guo...Guo Ge...my...my ribs hurt...too much!"

At the entrance, a police officer who was in conversation with a colleague turned his head at the sound of shouting. "He was fine just now, why is he in pain again?" he asked.

"This...this...hurts!" Wu Shixiong pointed to his rib and shouted while lying on his back.

"Always causing trouble!" Officer Guo stepped into the room and bent over in front of Wu Shixiong. "Take your hand away, let me see what's going on."

"Bang!!!"

Wu Shixiong suddenly got up and punched Officer Guo in the face. His physical strength was too strong, and Officer Guo, who was a head shorter than him, fell to the ground with a thud.

After Officer Guo fell, Wu Shixiong stepped forward and grabbed a medical glass bottle from the cabinet, and slammed it down like a basketball.

"Crash! Splash!"

The glass bottle shattered on Officer Guo's head, causing him to faint on the spot.

Wu Shixiong's mind was very clear, and he quickly reached down and took the key to the leg irons from Officer Guo's waist.

The two to three seconds that this all happened left the other two police officers at the entrance clearly caught off guard. One of them reacted quickly and immediately reached for his gun. "He's trying to run!"

"Bang!"

Wu Shixiong grabbed the iron chair in the room and smashed it out.

The two officers at the entrance instinctively stepped back to avoid it.

Wu Shixiong charged out of the infirmary like a blind bear. When he reached the entrance, the officer on the left reached out and grabbed his arm, but Wu Shixiong used his body's momentum to throw him to the ground as he ran forward.

One of them had just pulled out a gun when Wu Shixiong grabbed him by the collar and threw him around in a circle, then flung him to the ground.

"Bang!"

Wu Shixiong pushed open the door to the stairwell and charged in, taking two giant strides down the steps and arriving at the window.

The window of the clinic just faced the street, with security bars to prevent theft, but the stairwell on this side didn't have any because of its position outside the metal door on the upper floor.

Wu Shixiong opened the window and swiftly climbed out, without hesitation he jumped off.

He landed on the ground below, and it was as if he couldn't see anything anymore. His mind was blank, without any complex thoughts, only focused on running as fast as he could.

—---

At the Yu household, Su Tianyu shouted to An Qiqi, "Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year, you rascal!" An Qiqi replied joyfully. "What's up?"

"Uh, why do you call me that?" Su Tianyu looked at her sideways. "Don't you think it's disrespectful? Has it been too long since I massaged your breasts?"

"Get lost! Don't they all call you that?"
