A Refreshing Taste (2)

***

“Hmm··· What other ingredients can I make pickles with?”

Hae-jun, who has been immersed in the fun of making pickles lately, was wondering what kind of pickles to make while planting crops on the dimensional farm.

One side of the Sunflower kitchen was filled with pickles he had made.

Each one was made with cucumbers, onions, and cabbage, and there were even vegetable pickles made by mixing everything together. It was like he had pickled everything that could be pickled and put it in a glass jar.

He had even made boiled egg pickles a while ago, so he had tried everything that could be made.

The customers’ response was also good. Occasionally, there were customers looking for jalapeños, but he couldn’t make them because they weren’t available here.

“Oh, no. What did I do?”

While engrossed in thoughts of pickles, he accidentally planted tomatoes all over the field.

Tomatoes taste good and are nutritious, but they have the disadvantage of wilting faster than any other crop after harvest.

Once harvested, they wilt easily even after just two days in the real world, so he harvested only as much as he would use that day.

‘What am I going to do with all this? Should I make pickles out of them?···’

Tomatoes could also be pickled.

The only difference is that, unlike other vegetables, you have to cut off the top, blanch them slightly, and peel them before pickling them. The rest of the process is the same.

‘If I pickle them, I’ll have a lot.’

Even if I serve them to the customers, I’ll have enough to eat for a year.

I don’t need that much pickles.

After much thought, he decided to bring them to Min-ju and make fresh fruit tomato juice as a special drink for today, but then he changed his mind.

“I’ll make something else out of tomatoes besides pickles.”

He flipped through the recipe book.

There were simple recipes that didn’t require cooking, such as scrambled eggs with tomatoes, salad, juice, guacamole, and bruschetta.

There were various recipes, but none of them were for food that could be stored for a long time.

“Huh? What’s this? Tomato Whole?”

At that moment, a recipe caught Hae-jun’s eye: tomato whole.

Tomato whole means boiling whole tomatoes, peeling them, and canning or bottling them.

It’s easier to make than pickles, and it’s more versatile.

Once made, it can be transformed into various dishes.

In our terms, it’s a sauce like gochujang. It says it can be used to add flavor to curry, chopped and used as a stir-fry ingredient, or used in various ways such as pizza or pasta sauce.

“This is it.”

With this recipe, I can use the tomatoes I’ve worked so hard to grow without throwing them away, and I can make a sauce that can be stored for a long time and used in any dish I want.

Hae-jun sterilized the glass jars while waiting for the tomatoes to grow enough to be harvested.

.

.

.

“Whew~ I’m finally done.”

The process of making a huge amount of tomatoes into canned tomatoes was quite labor-intensive.

After hours of hard work, he made hundreds of jars of tomato whole, and thanks to that, he leveled up to level 15.

The area where the fog cleared this time was near the cliff where the saltpeter mine was located. Hae-jun, who came out of the cave, walked sideways along the cliff.

“Huh? It’s spring water.”

Water was gushing out of a small puddle that had formed next to the cave.

It didn’t feel like groundwater flowing down from the mountain along the cliff, but rather like spring water gushing out of the ground.

‘Well, since there’s a well on the farm, I guess it’s natural?’

As he was thinking that, he heard the sound of running water nearby.

Hae-jun followed the sound of the water.

“It’s blocked.”

He couldn’t go any further because of the fog, but he could definitely hear the sound of running water beyond it.

It was the sound of a larger body of water flowing than a babbling brook.

Judging from the fact that he could hear it nearby, he wouldn’t be able to go there right away, but it seemed like it would open up soon as he leveled up.

Hae-jun looked around and returned to where the spring water was.

Clear and clean spring water like the well in the farm. Hae-jun cupped his hands and scooped up some water. Bubbles like soda appeared in the water that had looked clear.

‘Isn’t it drinkable?’

He carefully brought it to his mouth and took a sip.

It tasted sour and tangy. To put it bluntly, it was spring water that tasted like flat soda that had been left at room temperature for three days.

Sizzle-

He swished it around his mouth and tasted it, but it wasn’t Hae-jun’s type of water.

After a few sips, Hae-jun came to a tentative conclusion about the spring water.

It’s drinkable, but it’s not something he really wants to drink. Basically, he would use the well for drinking water, but he would drink it when he was really thirsty.

‘Let’s head back.’

Hae-jun, who had finished exploring the newly opened area, returned to Sunflower.
