[May 8th, 2023]
‎ ‎ ‎
It had been four days since Derrick had completed his job. He agreed to slip the 50,000 Dan evenly between themselves. Leaving Derrick with 25,000 Dan.
‎ ‎ ‎
The job gave me quite the sum of wealth. 25,000 Dan was enough to easily pay off rent for a year, not including various other services such as subscriptions, food, and utilities. I shouldn't blow off all of it at once. I don't have any official identification in this world, so I won't be able to use many public services like banking systems or education. Buying a personal safe is also incredibly expensive... How should I go about storing my wealth?
‎ ‎ ‎
Derrick carefully analyzed the apartment in search of any clever hiding spots for his extra Dan. There were no useful spots in the kitchen or living room, and he couldn't use Ying's room to store his cash. That was a breach of privacy that even Derrick wasn't willing to cross.
‎ ‎ ‎
The situation seemed utterly hopeless until he found a small outlet in his room, the guest room. The outlet was situated on the wall and his bed naturally hid the outlet. You'd have to go out of your way to move the bed and see it. The outlet also didn't seem to be connected to anything in the room, so there was no concern over an electrical fire.
‎ ‎ ‎
Here it is!
‎ ‎ ‎
Derrick removed the old socket from the wall and placed half of his neatly rolled Dan into the empty outlet. He then placed the socket back in its place as a perfect cover. It was extremely likely that anyone could guess such a hiding spot.
‎ ‎ ‎
Good, now I have to go out and do some studying.
‎ ‎ ‎
Derrick first visited a supplies store to buy a cheap notebook. It would be useful for tracking his numerous objectives throughout the day.
‎ ‎ ‎
The Mathers City Public Library was roughly five miles south of the apartment. It lay in the downtown area of the city where the filth and overcrowding of the city wasn't an issue. It was a common spot for aristocrats to fill their mouths with food while the poor below them struggled to survive.
‎ ‎ ‎
Luckily for Derrick, the Mathers City Public Library was completely free and didn't require any official identification. It was the perfect location for Derrick to safely gain a basic level of world history while maintaining his distance from powerful gangsters.
‎ ‎ ‎
He walked up to the front desk and approached the beautiful librarian for some help.
‎ ‎ ‎
"Excuse me, do you know where the history textbooks are?"
‎ ‎ ‎
"Oh course! They're in the nonfiction section on shelf six. Would you like me to escort you there?"
‎ ‎ ‎
"Yes please."
‎ ‎ ‎
The pretty librarian brought Derrick to shelf six of the nonfiction section.
‎ ‎ ‎
"Here we have a selection of novels, historical recounts, and summations of historical events and eras. If you want to go more local, we have books discussing the founding of Mathers City along with its contemporary history."
‎ ‎ ‎
"Thank you, I will over all of them right away."
Derrick gathered the appropriate books and began his study. He started with the historical recounting of the Gordou Empire, 'RISE by Eustis Marrisbury'.
‎ ‎ ‎
[The current era is largely agreed upon by modern-day archeologists and historians to be the "New Testament Era". It is an era marked by economic prosperity, the rise of the Three Great Nations, and the establishment of Globalism. The beginning of the New Testament Era begins at the year 0 P.R., post-resurrection.]
‎ ‎ ‎
[However, there was an era that predated our current history by over four thousand years! This era was known as the "Gordou Era" or the "Resurrection Era".]
‎ ‎ ‎
Gordou? Isn't that the man the thieves mentioned when discussing the mysterious notes? It seems that he holds much more importance than I believed.
‎ ‎ ‎
[The Gordou era is marked by the rise of King Gordou, the legendary king who established the largest empire in the world's history. The Gordou Empire spanned over half the globe and fundamentally reshaped society after the Great War had torn the planet asunder. Many ancient archeological sites have shown ceremonial monuments and disparate notes that point to the existence of Gordou as well as his kingdom.]
‎ ‎ ‎
[The Great War was a time of conflict and desolation, where dozens of races fought for land, religious rights, and supremacy. The fighting lasted over one hundred years. Within the western hemisphere, Gordou would establish his kingdom and bring peace to the west.]
‎ ‎ ‎
[He would then use his political influence to negotiate peace with foreign nations in the east and end global conflict. This led to the formation of the Elven theocracy, a government that formed a pact of non-aggression with Gordou, and the Eastern alliance, a large collection of states that came together to form a coherent country.]
‎ ‎ ‎
Derrick stopped reading and wrote down all of his present information in his notebook, including the bits and pieces of information he obtained during his time in The Hole.
‎ ‎ ‎
So far I've got four main points of interest I need to explore. The first is the church at the heirloom dealing. Ying said that the people of The Hole have long since forgotten their Gods. This isn't definitive proof, but it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for this world to be polytheistic. Perhaps I can receive blessings from these Gods if I earn good favor.
‎ ‎ ‎
My second point of interest is the heirlooms. I still don't have a strong grasp on what they are and what they are capable of. Ying never gave me any lessons on the subject, so it's wise to ask him about them sooner or later.
‎ ‎ ‎
The third point of interest is the other nations. What is it like outside of Mathers City? The only thing I'm sure of is that this city lies within the western hemisphere. The other nations around the world may have a hint about who Gordou was.
‎ ‎ ‎
The fourth, and possibly most important point of interest, is King Gordou himself. Just who was he exactly? What was his life like? How did he manage to bring a world on the brink of ruin into an age of prosperity? Those notes seem to be related to King Gordou himself. If I recover more notes, I may be able to learn the secrets of the ancient world. Perhaps King Gordou will give me a lead on my transmigration.
‎ ‎ ‎
He placed the books back on the shelf and took a train home.
‎ ‎ ‎
I'll gather as many ancient relics as I can to solve the riddle of my transmigration. I can't afford to give up this opportunity!
