The sunlight peeked through the trees and gently touched her face.
The light caused her to frown and Xia Yu woke up with a jolt.
She sat up suddenly and realized that she had fallen asleep in her car while waiting for Huo Yun Chen to talk to his manager. She planned to rest her eyes for a bit after looking at the phone screen for a long time. Xia Yu did not expect that she would fall asleep.
Her eyes shifted to the passenger's seat and she began to panic when she could no see Huo Yun Chen.
She looked around and finally heaved in relief when she saw the man was outside leaning his body on her car while seemingly to be on the phone.
As the window was rolled down a little bit, she could hear his voice as he talked to the manager.
She glanced at the time and froze when she saw her look in the mirror. Xia Yu combed her hair with her fingers and wiped the corner of her mouth and eyes. Once she was presentable enough to meet another person, Xia Yu began to relax.
"You're awake," Huo Yun Chen spoke as he slid back into the passenger's seat.
"Mhm... Was that your manager?"
"Yeah, their flight touched down in F City. It will take them some time to arrive in A City."
Xia Yu nodded. She sat up straight and pushed the door open. "Wait here for a while. I'll go and get us some breakfast. You have my number. Just contact me if something happened. If someone recognized you, just drive the car to a safer place."
Huo Yun Chen shot her a look. "Are you not afraid that I might run away with your car?"
Xia Yu chuckled. "Why would celebrity Huo Yun Chen wants my old car for?" She flashed him a smile and continued, "Besides, if that happens, I can complain to your big boss through Little Star."
Without waiting for his reply, Xia Yu left with her purse and her phone.
Huo Yun Chen watched her retreating back with a complicated look on his face. Until now, he could still feel the lingering kiss on the corner of his lips. However, the proprietor does not seem to remember anything.
A sigh escaped him. Then, he looked up in horror.
Why would he feel disappointed? What was he expecting to happen?
Xia Yu returned to the car almost ten minutes later. She slid into the driver's seat and held the hot cup of soy milk in her hand to warm up.
"I didn't know what you like, but I bought anything that would be convenient for us to eat." Xia Yu looked up and smiled. She passed the paper bag to him and spoke, "See if there's anything you like."
Huo Yun Chen peeked into the bag and saw that there were some meat buns, fried dough, and sandwiches.
"I heard from an interview that you usually have black coffee for breakfast." Xia Yu handed him a cup of hot coffee. "It will be a while before your manager gets here. You should eat something to pad your stomach."
His stomach started to grumble as the smell of the food filled the car. Huo Yun Chen realized that he hasn't eaten anything for dinner.
Huo Yun Chen picked up the meat bun and passed it to Xia Yu. "You should have something to eat too." He watched her take a small bite at the meat bun and picked up another one.
A sigh escaped him as his teeth sunk into the soft and fluffy bun. Perhaps, he was too hungry. He began to think that this was the best meat bun he had so far.
The two ate in silence. When he looked up again, Huo Yun Chen realized that he had finished all the food. He blinked, wondering if it was him who ate everything just now.
He turned to the person beside him and saw Xia Yu smiling face.
Huo Yun Chen coughed and looked away. After what happened last night, Huo Yun Chen did not think that he would be able to look at Xia Yu the same way again.
His mind kept on repeating that small move in his head.
The sound of Xia Yu's phone broke the silence.
Xia Yu glanced at the caller ID and the look on her face immediately turned gloomier. However, she tried her best to calm down.
Without saying a word, Xia Yu get out to answer the phone call.
"Where are you?" Her mother's voice was loud on the other side of the phone. "You didn't come home last night, didn't you?"
"I went out to see a friend," Xia Yu whispered.
"Friend? What friend? Xia Yu, don't tell me that you were out to see that boy again? I'm telling you that I am not going to agree." Mother Xia heaved harshly. "After staying in Capital City for a few years, you have turned yourself into a slut."
Her eyes darkened. Xia Yu really could not understand why would her mother think of her this way.
She took a deep breath and heaved an exasperated sigh. "Mom, what do you want?"
"What about breakfast?"
Her body was shaking in anger. Xia Yu clenched her hand into a fist and spoke, "You know how to cook." When her father was still alive, it was her mother who would prepare the meals.
"I'm too lazy."
"Then, go and buy something. It will take me a while before I will be back home." Before her mother could say anything, Xia Yu had already hung up and set her phone to silent.
She leaned on the car for a long time and took a few deep breaths to calm down. When she looked up again, Huo Yun Chen was standing beside her with a concerned look on his face.
"Are you alright?"
Xia Yu flashed him a weak smile. "Yeah. Just some trouble at home."
His gaze moved to look at the bandage around her head. Huo Yun Chen was starting to believe that Xia Yu was living in an abusive environment. Or else, how could she walk around with her bloodied head and did not care about going to the hospital.
