When Song Xing Xing woke up again, she found Lu Xun sitting by her side with his eyes closed. As soon as she moved a little bit, Lu Xun opened his eyes and looked at her.
He exhaled with relief upon seeing that she was staring back at him. "You're awake."
No one could tell how panicked he was when Song Xing Xing had drifted to sleep as soon as she came out of the labor room. He had thought that something bad happened to her. It was Xia Yu who told him that she had fallen asleep after spending long hours giving birth to the twin.
Song Xing Xing nodded. She watched his face and could see the trace of fatigue. Looking at his unkempt appearance, the corner of her lips gradually turned up.
Lu Xun stood up and placed his hand on her forehead to push back a few strands of hair from her face. "Are you thirsty? I'll pour you some water first."
Without waiting for her reply, Lu Xun turned around and pour a glass of water for her. Then, he helped her to sit on the bed and drink some water.
Once she had drunk enough, Lu Xun put the glass back on the table and asked, "How are you feeling?"
"Pretty good." Song Xing Xing laughed softly.
Then, the couple stared at each other and no one said anything for a long time. Their eyes were gentle and warm and there was a faint smile on their lips. It seemed that they both did not need words to tell how much they loved each other.
It was Song Xing Xing who had broken the silence. "Lu Xun."
"Hmm?"
"I'm a mother."
His lips stretched up into a smile. Lu Xun leaned over and pecked on her lips. "Mhm... And I, a father."
The couple looked at each other with a silly look.
"Lu Xun," Song Xing Xing called again.
"Hmm?"
"I'm hungry."
Lu Xun snapped out of his trance and chuckled. "Auntie Wei came over and send something." He turned around to grab the flask on the side table.
Song Xing Xing ate the warm food without looking up. She had consumed too much energy in the labor room and her stomach was screaming to be filled. Otherwise, she did not know whether she would have the strength to move a finger.
Once the bowl was empty, Song Xing Xing finally breathed with relief. She watched as her husband tidied up the bowl and spoke, "How are the babies?"
"They're pretty good. The doctor said they will have to stay in the incubator for observation," Lu Xun said. He continued to watch her reaction as he was worried that his wife was going to be upset. "There shouldn't be any problem with them. Later, we'll go and see them together, alright?"
Song Xing Xing nodded. She had already prepared that she was going to be part of the babies for a while. As long as the girls are alright, then everything will be fine.
However, she had only seen the girls briefly after they come out. She kind of missed them.
"How long will they have to stay there?"
"Probably a couple of weeks or longer. It will depend on their health."
"Un. I know." A thought came to her mind and Song Xing Xing looked at her husband again. "Lu Xun."
"Hmm?"
"Have you informed our parents?"
His expression stiffened.
Song Xing Xing already knew the answer as she looked at his face. "You haven't told them?"
Lu Xun shook his head. "I forgot." He was too anxious after he heard that his wife was going into the labor room earlier than planned. His mind was distracted and there was nothing he could think about other than his wife.
Until he saw her open her eyes and speak to him again, Lu Xun was unable to function well. How would he remember such an important thing?
He took out his phone and coughed. "I'll go and inform them now." Taking a deep breath, Lu Xun prepared himself for trouble.
Song Xing Xing watched his retreating figure and laughed. She could already imagine that this man was going to be scolded by their parents as he had failed to inform them of such important news.
A few seconds after he had left, someone knocked on the door. The door was pushed open and Xia Yu's peeked in.
"Can I come in?"
Song Xing Xing smiled and waved her hand. She watched as Xia Yu approached and spoke, "Xia Yu, I have to thank you for this time. If you were not around, I wouldn't know what to do."
"This is what I should do." Xia Yu flashed a smile. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired." Song Xing Xing laughed. "Other than that, I'm relieved that the babies came out safely."
"Now that you are in your confinement period, you have to look after your health well. Otherwise, you won't have the energy to look after the twin."
"Xia Yu, have you seen the babies?" Song Xing Xing still remembered that this was the hospital where Xia Yu was working at. It would not be difficult for her to look at the babies.
"I went to see them earlier and talked to the nurses there. They said that the babies are going to be fine. There are not many health issues with them. Once they are strong enough, they will be able to come out."
