Chapter .430

While I was looking over the data I had Laura, Tahlia and Fantasia collect about enchanting, I realized something interesting. There is an enchanting type I didn’t know about. Or more like I didn’t realize it was different from the three main types I explained.

The fourth type to add to the list, or would it be the fifth because my cards were the fourth?

Either way, the type I didn’t consider is spirit enchanting. And I know you might ask, why wouldn’t I think of it?

Well, simply put, I only have one item with spirit enchantments, Errelitea. And because it is kind of broken in terms of power, I didn’t even look at it while I was looking at enchantments.

But Tahlia did, because she is amazing, and she pointed out that the enchants in that sword don’t fall under any of the three general styles that are used.

The spirit enchantments, a lot like the enchantments my cards use, are in a sort of compressed format, where their effects can be more powerful than you could regularly do with that amount of ‘enchanting data’.

And before you ask, no, the spirit enchantments don’t use the same compression type as my cards do. Comparing the two is like comparing a .ZIP file and a .RAR file.

So yeah. Because of that, I now had two file types I was trying to figure out. But at least for one of them, I had access to a cheat code called calling for help.

The superior spirits were quite a big help in explaining their enchanting style to me, and it really did open some possibilities. In short, the spirit enchanting works by writing the enchantments in the spirit language. Which is a written language the System doesn’t recognize under any of the Language Comprehension titles you can get.

But at the same time, when spirits talk, anyone can understand them. I think that is because the spirits carry something equivalent to the Language Comprehension skills. They can understand us, and make us understand them, but their written language isn’t something we can comprehend without studying.

So yeah. That brought up the idea of my cards enchanting stuff in a different language and that idea ended up being true. In short, a card install enchants the card in Japanese. Specifically kanji. … At least I think it is kanji. I’m not an expert on Japanese. But my cards, when looked at by someone who doesn’t have Card Summoner, are written in Japanese kanji, so I suppose that checks out.

So, in theory, if you can learn Japanese, specifically kanji, you could write enchantments in kanji using the regular writing enchanting techniques. But even with access to my cards, learning Japanese wouldn’t be a simple feat.

Sucks for me that I never decided to learn any. But at least I can tell Stina and Elma what I figured out.

And besides, now that I know you can use languages other than … the not-English people speak, I can probably just make up a language, which will be even more efficient than the Spirit language or Japanese.

The two enchanters actually took the news quite well. Understanding that languages are bullshit and that some of them are just fundamentally better for enchanting than others just is something you have to accept.

I mean, learning a new language to enchant isn’t really much more far-fetched than rune enchanting. For rune enchanting, you have to learn the runes. Sure there aren’t all that many of them, but you still have to learn them.

The bigger problem was deciding between the Spirit language and Japanese. With the Spirit language we have the advantages of having access to teachers, so that is the one we decided on, while with Japanese, we’d just have to learn the language from my cards.

And as you know, sometimes the translations from OCG to TCG cards aren’t 100% accurate, especially when it comes to the names. I might still try to look into Japanese, just to know the basics,  but for others, the spirit language is just better from what I know.

Learning the Spirit language were naturally the two enchanters, Wilma, Cailie and I. Cailie was learning it because she is half-spirit, while I was learning it because … I just like to be a jack of all trades I suppose. Or I guess you could call me the User of Rare Skills.

… okay, bad joke.

Other than working on a translator for both Japanese and the Spirit language, I was also trying to improve the 3D design table. I did already have a prototype finished before the weapons competition, but it was still expensive to produce, so I didn’t want to make them with that design.

And now, other than simplifying the design and making it as cheap to produce as I can, I have another objective. And that is allowing designs to be transferred from the table to Mental Visual Designing and vice versa. This would massively help with the popularity of the table, while also not overshadowing the skill.

Luck for me, I already had some experience making devices that would allow skills to be implemented into them. … What? Did you forget that I designed duel disks that allow for the use of Card Summoner.

Sure they aren’t really comparable, but I can use a bit of the tech from the duel disks for the design table.

It did take some trial and error, but luckily the Factory makes that a lot simpler. No need to build expensive prototypes, when I can prototype here.

Getting the design to go from the skill to the table was actually surprisingly easy. All I really had to do was have someone open up their Mental Visual Designing skill, pull up the design they wanted to upload into the table, and then press a button on the table that would read the design. While keeping their hand on a type of scan panel.

That way, the table would read the design and save it in the tables design storage, and from there, you could use the table to alter the design or whatever.

The problem was actually reversing this, as I couldn’t just force a skill to read information on the design table and take that info into the skills design library. Which by the way isn’t unlimited. It is 10 slots times the level of your Designing skill. And since you need LV.7 Designing to get Mental Visual Designing, when you first get the skill, you have 70 slots. Which is quite a lot and nothing to really complain about.

And yes, I can cheat that limit thanks to Storage. I can transfer designs between the two skills freely.

But back to getting designs from the table to the skill.

I was eventually able to get that part to work when Tahlia figured out the format for the designs as they are stored in the skill. Which is completely different from how the design table keeps them, in case you were wondering.

So we then had to come up with a way to not only change the filetype of the designs as they came out of the table, but also how to get a person to accept the design and make sure they get it into their skill.

For that, we came up with a way. A person holds their arm to the ‘upload/download’ panel while having Mental Visual Designing open on a blank design. Then they activate the table which forcefully writes the design open on the table into the open design in the skill.

… sadly, it is a bit painful, as mana from the table basically forces its way into you and influences a System skill. It isn’t too bad, but it isn’t pleasant either.

But I think with a bit more time, we can make it better where it will only be left with a tingly feeling, not actual pain. And if you don’t resist the foreign mana, that also helps.

But I think that is enough designing work for one chapter. I feel like opening some packs, so that is what I will do.

And on today’s agenda, Phantom Darkness. I already got almost everything from Tactical Evolution last time, with the only card missing being Abyssal Kingshark. So I just got it with a Different Dimension Capsule and fully completed the set.

Spoiler
[collapse]

But yeah. Phantom Darkness. I’ve only opened 10 packs thus far, so no speedruns yet. And in case you were wondering, I naturally want to pull Yubel.

Spoiler

PTDN 1

Destiny HERO - Dunker, Gladiator Beast Darius, Armored Cybern, Dark World Grimoire, Cybernetic Hidden Technology, Dark Crusader, Wind Effigy, Golden Flying Fish, Dark Spirit Art - Greed

[collapse]

Well, Armored Cybern is new and it is pretty good. Sure I don’t use Cyber Dragons nearly as often as I should, considering how amazing they are, but having Armored Cybern is really nice.

Golden Flying Fish is also new, but I’m honestly more interested in eating it than actually using it for anything productive. But some might argue that food is the most productive thing.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 2

Cybernetic Zone, Dark World Grimoire, Chain Summoning, Earth Effigy, Vengeful Shinobi, Chain Material, Obsidian Dragon, Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss, Deepsea Macrotrema

[collapse]

Okay. Cybernetic Zone is … not all that amazing. It is actually really bad. Sure you can effect dodge with it and get double attack while at it, but then when it comes to your standby phase, the monster is destroyed.

And Deepsea Macrotrema is another mediocre fish.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 3

Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss, Gemini Trap Hole, Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield, Transmigration Break, Gladiator Proving Ground, Cybernetic Zone, Imprisoned Queen Archfiend, The Calculator, Rainbow Life

[collapse]

… that seems to be all repeats. But Rainbow Life is great, so I don’t mind all that much.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 4

Dark Crusader, Acidic Downpour, Dark World Grimoire, Unleash Your Power!, The Calculator, Chain Material, Black Veloci, Fine, Castle Gate

[collapse]

Castle Gate is an … I was going to call it an alright wall, but it really isn’t all that good. I mean, Labyrinth Wall or Millenium Shield are both just better. The tribute for burn effect is okay, I suppose, but nothing super amazing.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 5

Black Veloci, All-Out Attacks, Destiny HERO - Dunker, Mirage Tube, Atlantean Pikeman, Gladiator Beast Andal, Double Tag Team, Acidic Downpour, Offering to the Snake Deity

[collapse]

Nothing new here, next.

Spoiler

PTDN 6

Dimension Explosion, Armored Cybern, Imprisoned Queen Archfiend, All-Out Attacks, Dark World Grimoire, Mirage Tube, Dark Crusader, Wind Effigy, Castle Gate

[collapse] Spoiler

PTDN 7

Rainbow Path, Destiny HERO - Departed, Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss, Wind Effigy, Acidic Downpour, Dark World Grimoire, Magnetic Mosquito, Vicious Claw, Fires of Doomsday

[collapse]

Rainbow Path is new. And it can get me a Rainbow Dragon. … a bit late for that, but I appreciate the effort, as well as the artwork.

Fires of Doomsday is also new and it is … decent, I suppose. Nothing crazy and tokens aren’t that great, but it isn’t useless.

And Vicious Claw is actually kind of interesting. It does so many things, between returning to hand after something almost destroys the monster it is equipped to, destroying a different monster on the field, and then spawning a powerful token for the opponent. It just does so many things.

And I can always just reverse engineer it to make some metal talons.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 8

Fine, Cybernetic Hidden Technology, Instant Neo Space, Fire Trooper, Wind Effigy, Dimension Explosion, Spell Chronicle, Cybernetic Zone, Six Samurai United

[collapse]

Instant Neo Space is nice. A good option for Neo Space, the field spell. Also a better install for the Neos fusions than the field spell.

Six Samurai United is also new, and it is an alright draw card.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 9

Gemini Lancer, Rainbow Path, Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield, Unleash Your Power!, Destiny HERO - Dunker, Cannon Soldier MK-2, Magnetic Mosquito, Instant Neo Space, Dark Spirit Art - Greed

[collapse]

Nothing new here. Next.

Spoiler

PTDN 10

Destiny HERO - Departed, Cybernetic Hidden Technology, Fine, Regenerating Rose, The Calculator, Armored Cybern, The Immortal Bushi, Darknight Parshath, Metabo Globster

[collapse]

Darknight Parshath is actually surprisingly good. … Or it would be if it was LV.4 and not LV.5 Needing a tribute for it is a huge letdown. Well, I don’t need one, so it is good for me, but if you actually play the game, it is quite the letdown.

Metabo Globster on the other hand just summons tokens. Which is fine and all, but it is still just tokens.

… and because I didn’t get Yubel, let’s do a few more packs. See how many I feel.

Spoiler

PTDN 11

Double Tag Team, Vicious Claw, The Calculator, Mirage Tube, Regenerating Rose, Cyber Ouroboros, Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield, Magnetic Mosquito, Rainbow Life

[collapse]

Cyber Ouroboros is new, but it isn’t all that good, so whatever. Also more copies of Rainbow Life. Always good to have.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 12

Rainbow Veil, All-Out Attacks, Samsara Lotus, Transmigration Break, Atlantean Pikeman, Destiny HERO - Dunker, Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss, Black Veloci, Dark Spirit Art - Greed

[collapse]

No new cards here, but more copies of Rainbow Veil is good. I’ve been getting copies of that card with the Different Dimension Capsule for Unika’s arrows, but I’ll accept getting them from packs.

Next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 13

Vengeful Shinobi, Rainbow Path, Black Veloci, Unleash Your Power!, Gladiator Beast Darius, Rainbow Veil, Imprisoned Queen Archfiend, Destiny HERO - Departed, Future Samurai

[collapse]

Rainbow Veil is still good. But next pack.

Spoiler

PTDN 14

Fire Trooper, Regenerating Rose, The Calculator, Black Veloci, Acidic Downpour, All-Out Attacks, Cyber Ouroboros, Transmigration Break, Aztekipede, the Worm Warrior

[collapse]

Nothing here, next.

Spoiler

PTDN 15

Spell Chronicle, Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss, Regenerating Rose, Chain Summoning, Obsidian Dragon, Sea Koala, All-Out Attacks, The Immortal Bushi, Rainbow Life

[collapse] Spoiler

PTDN 16

Destiny HERO - Departed, Black Veloci, Gladiator Beast Andal, Armored Cybern, Chain Summoning, Blue Thunder T-45, Cannon Soldier MK-2, Gigaplant, Escape from the Dark Dimension

[collapse]

Hey! I got the Gemini plant. … I mean Gigaplant. And it is a pretty nice plant.

Escape from the Dark Dimension is also new, but it is just summon banished Dark monster, so it just okay. Nothing amazing.

… I could stop here, but maybe just a few more. Yeah. A few more.

Spoiler

PTDN 17

Alchemy Cycle, Magnetic Mosquito, Gladiator Beast Andal, Fine, Cannon Soldier MK-2, Obsidian Dragon, Vengeful Shinobi, Blue Thunder T-45, Six Samurai United

[collapse]

Nothing new here, so next.

Spoiler

PTDN 18

All-Out Attacks, Double Tag Team, Chain Summoning, Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield, Obsidian Dragon, Transmigration Break, Vicious Claw, Blue Thunder T-45, Dark Spirit Art - Greed

[collapse]

Again, nothing new, next.

Spoiler

PTDN 19

Cybernetic Zone, Regenerating Rose, Obsidian Dragon, Imprisoned Queen Archfiend, Chain Material, Dimension Explosion, Black Veloci, The Immortal Bushi, Fires of Doomsday

[collapse]

Still nothing new. One more for an even 20.

Spoiler

PTDN 20

Acidic Downpour, Chain Material, Transmigration Break, Chain Summoning, Double Tag Team, Rainbow Path, Black Veloci, Volcanic Counter, Shadowpriestess of Ohm

[collapse]

Not a terrible way to end an opening, getting a super rare. Volcanic Counter is also interesting, as it can reflect back damage.

And Shadowpriestess of Ohm is also new, but she is just another Dark Spellcaster and her effect isn’t even all that good.

Sadly no Yubel, so I’ll have to return to this set later. I’ll probably look at a speedrun opening sometime soon.

Please report us if you find any errors so we can fix it asap!
