After some small talk with Edwina. Nirra and Ellie left her house as the sun was coming down. The twins backtracked their way to the guild and, from there, walked home.

When they arrived, the twins noticed that the air smelled like cooked fish. Their mother must be cooking in the kitchen. Ellie went ahead and went to the kitchen while Nirra opened the doors to the forge.

The forge was almost the same as she first saw it; the only issue is that without their dad, the forge is to remain closed for the day. Nevertheless, Nirra still walked towards the crafting bench and placed the bag of doomslime cores on the table before her. She took a look at the gems and slowly walked towards the anvil to see how much of a reaction it would have if she struck the core with a hammer. So she set up a rope system that would drop the hammer onto the anvil without her getting too close to the core when it eventually combusted. Nirra then placed the shield between her and the anvil and let go of the rope. When the hammer hit the core, flames suddenly burst out like a mini-explosion. not big enough to destroy the forge, but hot enough that it would ignite the gunpowder. The only problem now is that the cores are too big for them to fit into a cartridge.

So, she remembered Edwina's recommendation and started sanding them down into a small disk shape. The finger-sized stone became a small disk. She then grabbed some parchment and cut it to the right size. With it finished, Nirra then wrapped the piece of parchment around the doomslime core that had been grinded and glued it tight. What she has now is a casing, and she then put some gunpowder inside the cylinder that was made by the parchment. Next is the projectile. She knew she needed a better shape for the projectile, so she grabbed a piece of clay and started slowly manipulating it into a mold complete with the grooves needed for the projectile to spin as it leaves the barrel.

Then she placed the mold near the furnace so it would harden. After it did so, she took it out and placed it on the anvil. Then she took out the molten lead and poured it into the mold she had made. The liquid metal immediately took the form of a bullet, and Nirra was satisfied with the results. After it hardened, Nirra took the bullet and inspected it for any deformities.

After she was satisfied, she placed some cotton on top of the gunpowder and placed the projectile on the cotton. She then pressed the rim of the parchment cartridge for a tight fit and for the entire cartridge to be snug without any space. She was now done, and she could use this to measure the caliber of the revolver she wanted to make. Of course, she made about seven more and will test one tomorrow to see if it will work. Right now, it was late in the night, and everyone in the house was asleep.

As Nirra stepped into the kitchen, she noticed that her mom and sister had left her some food to eat after she was done with the upgrades to her weapon. Nirra smiled as she sat down and started eating.

When she was done, she went ahead and took a shower in the bathroom and went to her and Ellie's room. Nirra and Ellie now had separate beds that hugged either side of the wall. Nirra's bed was to the right, so she moved over there and noticed that her sister was already asleep. She then patted her sister's hair and whispered.

"Thanks for saving me some."

Ellie smiled as she finished her words, and Nirra proceeded to sleep on her bed. She woke up the next morning and noticed that her sister was gone. She did work late into the night to finish the cartridge, so it was understandable. She fixed her hair, wore her clothes, and proceeded down the stairs to see that her mother was in the kitchen waiting for her while she did the dishes.

"Good morning, Nirra," Mirabel said as she was cleaning the plates.

"Good morning, mom." Nirra replied.  "Where's Ellie?" She asked.

"In the forge, dear, she said something about making a better sword." Mirabel replied.

"Okay, I'll go see her," Nirra said, and she slowly walked towards the forge. After she opened the door, she noticed that her sister was hammering away at a piece of heated steel. She noticed that the steel was about to break because it was too cold and tried to warn her sister, but it was too late. The moment Ellie struck the steel again, it broke in two.

"No! That's the third time already!" Ellie said in frustration.

"Hey Ellie," Nirra said, announcing her presence to her sister.

"Oh, hey, sis," Ellie greeted back.

"What are you trying to make?" Nirra asked.

"Just a new sword, but the steel keeps breaking on me." Ellie replied.

"That's high-carbon steel you're using. No wonder it broke; it was too cold." Nirra said as she was inspecting the broken steel rod.

"Oh, I didn't notice till now," Ellie replied, defeated.

"Here, let me help you," Nirra said as she picked up a hammer and started heating up a high-carbon steel ingot.

"The difference between high carbon and low carbon steel is that high carbon steel is stronger and harder, but it's really stiff and prone to snapping into two pieces when it's too cold, while low carbon steel just bends when applied force." Nirra said as she placed the heated steel ingot inside the furnace.

"Just take your time with high-carbon steel, and eventually it'll follow through as you whack it shape with the hammer," Nirra explained as she started hammering at the steel.

After a couple of minutes of reheating and hammering, she now has the desired blade shape that Ellie was looking for.

"Here, you can quench it now," she said as he placed the blade into the furnace, and Ellie came in with her own steel pincers and grabbed the heated blade and immediately dropped it into some waiting oil. After she pulled it out, Ellie tested its quality and was surprised at how good it was.

"Thanks for the help, Nirra," Ellie said with a smile.

"No problem," Nirra replied.

As the two were minding their own business, bells started ringing frantically outside the forge. Nirra and Ellie rushed out to see what the problem was, and they heard someone shout.

"Monsters horde! Every adventurer, proceed to the guild now!"
