Satisfied with her work, Nirra placed the contraption, which is soon to become a flintlock pistol, inside a drawer that was opened. She stood up, grabbed the broom that was on her left, and started cleaning the forge.

After a while, she eventually finished, and the forge looks brand new. With a smile, she removed her apron and proceeded to walk to the exit of the forge—not before her sister was waiting for her at the doorway.

"Hi Nirra!" She greeted him, saying, "Dad said you've been working on a cool new project! Can I see it, please?" She said the last word with the cute little puppy eyes she always does.

Nirra sighed; she didn't have the heart to reject her sister with that face, so she motioned for her to come into the forge. Inside, Nirra led her sister to the workbench and pulled one of the drawers.

"Don't tell mom and dad about this, okay?" Nirra said, and Ellie nodded.

Nirra took the unfinished flintlock pistol and laid it down in front of Ellie.

"This is it." Nirra said as she gazed at her sister's reaction.

Ellie had stars in her eyes as she looked at the unfinished firearm. "Whoaaa, what is it? And what does it do?" Ellie looked at her sister for a reply.

"That's a secret until I manage to finish it, so while it's not done, don't tell mom and dad." Nirra said while putting her pointing finger near her mouth in a signal to her to keep it a secret while she winked.

"Okay!" Ellie gleefully said as Nirra picked up the device and placed it back inside its drawer.

"It is getting late; did mom and dad already go to bed?" Nirra and Ellie went to leave the forge as Nirra closed the door behind them.

"Yeah, they went to sleep a bit earlier because dad was so tired for the day," Ellie replied while walking with her sister.

"Then let's head to bed as well," Nirra said, as she walked upstairs to their room.

Before going to bed, the two sisters first washed their bodies in the bathroom and put on their sleeping clothes. Once done, they layed down on the bed.

"Good night, sis." Ellie said before sleeping.

"Good night, Ellie," Nirra followed suit and slept.

Nirra wouldn't get the chance to go out with the remaining parts needed to finish her flintlock pistol because the following days were as busy as today was. Of course, their mother wouldn't want their 7-year-old daughters to go out on their own, so Nirra would be a bit frustrated. Nirra did plan to sneak out of the house once, but she feared she might get banned from working on her project if either her mother or father found out what she was doing. So she waited until she was the right age to go to the market and buy the remaining parts to complete her pistol. Every day, she would check on the condition of the parts to ensure that they would not rust or deform in any way.

That proved to be a good choice, though, because one night, due to the heat and cold stress that expended and shrank the steel, the barrel she made was deformed and filled with cracks. She needed to fix it before she was able to fire the weapon for the first time.

So she set about it once again. She heated a piece of steel inside the furnace and struck the orange-hot steel with a hammer on the anvil until it was flat. She then used a steel rod that was already measured to the preferred dimensions to hammer the steel into the shape that she needed it to be. After it was done, she proceeded to heat it thoroughly and dunk it into a waiting container of oil to subsequently cool it. Doing this helped harden the steel so it could handle the explosion that would propel a projectile forward.

After she sanded it thoroughly, she removed the old, cracked barrel and replaced it with the newly forged one. This barrel however has a thicker base so that it would stop any crack or deformity from happening. Satisfied, she placed the entire gun back inside its drawer and went on to sleep that night.

7 Year old Nirra Agustine

7 Year old Ellie Agustine

So i used an ai to help you visualise what the two looked like.

I'll post another image when they become teens and adults/adventurers so look out for that. As always thanks for readin!

Also, for the smokeless powder. I have the basic gist of it but, it will not be fully accurate since companies keep the mixture top secret and the chemicals needed are pretty complex. But i will try my hardest to get it as close as possible to the actual in world smokeless powder
