Alarm-08

Azul

Azul squinted his eyes as he tried to shut out the noises around him. It wasn't an easy task when everyone around him was rushing about, panicking. Carried in his hands was a black cellphone, currently on dial to his newest superior.

Calm down.

Trying to take his mind off, he looked around. They were in a massive control room, with dozens upon dozens of rows of large tables and chairs, all arranged in a single, circular pattern surrounding the center of the room. The tables themselves were each loaded with computers, haphazardly stacked record books, and several large stacks of paper.

And at the center of the room was a massive, holographic device, displaying a full, 3-dimensional blue holograph of the globe. All around the globe holograph was a dozen or so smaller blue screens hovering about, displaying tiny little numbers, graphs and charts Azul couldn't comprehend. It didn't help that the words were all in English. Azul may have been proficient enough in the language for simple conversations, but anything above that was beyond him.

This was the Maya Calendarial, the command zone of Project Overwatch. Azul had heard about it several times from the Visionary himself, back before being picked up to become that little girl's assistant. Project Overwatch was established, in the early 1940s, to detect any of the Cracks. It supposedly utilised experimental technology and unique Abilities, to prepare an effective first response against Cracks and contain any damage.

Unassociated with any Ministries or Central, the project was shrouded with mystery, and professional enough to be answerable only to Overseers. Well, that was the glorified view Azul himself had held of them. Now he knew better. Just looking at the state of the room was enough to shatter Azul's esteemed view of them to a million pieces.

Focus.

And now, back to the room in question, which was, to reiterate, in a state of pandemonium. All across the floor, sheets of paper and stationary were strewn messily. Paying them no heed were the personnel staffing the control room, all scurrying about like panicking mice, shouting over one another. Some he saw carrying papers in their hands, whilst others he noted were rushing to make a call to a superior.

"Where are the papers?! James? Hello?!"

"Sarah! The files......"

"Pierre? Get the Engineer on call! ASAP!"

Calling it a dire situation would be undercutting it. On the holographic globe within the center of this chaos, was a blinking, red dot. It laid on an eastern region within Thailand, Southeast Asia. Yes, it was that Crack. The one that had led to the Visionary sending him to the little girl, and for that little girl to, conversely, send him as an attaché to keep an eye on Project Overwatch.

Now? A second blinking red dot had appeared on the map. And unlike the first in Thailand, that had been detected in the middle of a forest, this one was extremely close to a nearby urban area. Shit.

Ring

Pick up.

Ring Ring

-

And suddenly, the call connected. The voice on the other end sounded tense, almost as if it knew what was going on. But that shouldn't be impossible. Azul tightened the grip on his cellphone. He kept his voice sharp and steady. He kept his words brief. They had an emergency on their hands.

A Crack a mere 1.2 miles away from Vancouver, the third largest city in Canada.
