Iv

As I shifted my gaze, three individuals caught my eye. Well, two actually. It was just that they were currently being led by some random technician, probably from Division Uriel, judging by his uniform.

"Those two? They're......"

......Riana Brians and Keith Lothal…… I believe. Hm, it's surprising for sure to see them together. From their personal files, those two don't seem quite compatible. If even I could see that, Central leadership probably hasn't given them any co-ops. Yet they were together? Interesting. Both of them had caught some of us Overseer's attentions in recent times.

Particularly Riana. Despite her volatile personality, that woman's Ability was truly something else. So much potential. I would have loved to bring her under my wing by employing her under my Division Samiel. Alas, both Judge and other members of Credo had similar thoughts, so we ended up dropping the matter whilst keeping discreet attention on her. The Judge was one thing. But those damn Credo bastards? I swear, for an Overseer, the Judge really couldn't keep her own Ministry in check. Although I guess that applies to me too, since the Ministry of Internal Affairs operates semi-independently these days.

"Damn."

Ah yes, then there was Keith too. I suppose he was alright. Not much compared to Riana, but a nice track record, at least.

Whilst entertaining myself with such thoughts, I passed the two of the operatives by, who were currently being taken to a holding area to be lowered by a lift into the crater. Offering a brief glance and smile to those two, I made my way directly to the crater.

My appearance alone was enough for me to pass by the additional security, which was manned by ordinary, non-Origin guards. I say ordinary, but as guard units from Uriel, I knew all of these guys used gizmos and other devices that would let them put up more than a simple fight to any unsuspecting Origin.

"Clear to pass. Sir."

Upon noting down my appearance and my time of arrival, the guards all made way for me to pass. I had taken the liberty of informing the supervisor here of the form I'd be taking when I showed up beforehand. The supervisor here seemed competent enough to pass that down to their trusted underlings properly, cutting the red tape of having to verify my identity directly.

As I arrived at the mouth of the crater, I weaved past the cranes, pulleys and workers currently running about past me. Boy, it sure was loud here with all this shouting and moving machinery.

"Johnson? Help me out here!"

"Can't yall see I'm-"

Yup. Very noisy.

After crossing some taped-off barriers and cones, I found myself standing right at the edge of the crater, I gazed into it, and into the large hole below, which twisted itself further down, branching into numerous, smaller cave entrances and pathways. They were all currently lit up by numerous lights installed onto the cave walls, and several large, metal beams supporting the walls of the entire cave system. Although the whole thing extended quite far down, before twisting off to the side and cutting vision from above, I could see perfectly well until the bottom with my enhanced farsight and night vision. I even saw workers and Origins moving in and out, carrying equipment and stone, from some of the smaller pathways branching out from the large structure.

They looked like ants from above here.

"Cute."

Now then, I could technically board the lift alongside everybody else. But that didnt really fit my style, you know? Besides, what are they gonna do? Scold me? Yeah, not happening.

Putting my thoughts aside, I put some strength into my legs, and jumped down into the hole below. I could hear some of the workers yelling and panicking as I continued to plummet down at an accelerating pace. Their voices dimmed and disappeared all together in a brief second, as I continued to fall. Oops, my hat, can't forget about that. Better keep a hand on it to not let it fly away as I was falling. As I fell, I passed by some lifts coming up and down the hole. Using my other free hand, I waved at their occupants, though by that time, I was probably speeding down too fast for them to make out my figure. Alright, let's get to work. Focusing on my body, I projected my Ability throughout my form. Immediately, I felt my body starting to slow down, and my pace of descent decreased until I was slowly inching my way down to the ground, which by that time lay only a few feet below me.

Thud

A soft thud resonated across the cave interior as my feet made contact with the wet stone ground. Great, it was slippery.

"Come on guys. What would happen if someone slipp-"

I-

That-

Ok. What the fuck?

I stared at the sight in front of me. At the center of the large cave interior that I had landed in, was what appeared to be a massive tear in space itself, hovering a few metres above the ground, and warping the space around it. No, not a tear. A crack. The Crack. From the massive crack at the centre, smaller cracks were branching out, even touching some of the cave walls and going through them. Oh man. It was a lot more impressive than what I had seen in the photos. Those definitely didn't do this thing any justi- no, what was I thinking, idiot? That thing had grown. I had read about it in those reports back in my suite in Bangkok. Could they seriously not have attached a "before-after" photo rather than a dozen or so statistics? At least I would have known what I would be walking into. Uncouth.

Man, if only Azul wasn't away.

"I would have loved to see the sight of his jaw dropping."
