Going one step further, the tribal Chief pulled out a large curved sword from his waist. I saw Del getting startled by the cool sound of the sword being drawn. Andrea calculated how much more he could endure. At most, it seemed like one more minute at best.

“If the angel commands, I will cut Fernando’s neck right here and now. The light of our Sablum. It is right to punish the one who dares to wield a sword against the angel, our symbol of grace. Please give me an order.”

Del, trembling, picked up a notebook from the table. His hand, holding the notebook, was trembling.

“[I will I forgive you, so don’t ask for it]”

“But, dear angel, you must show an example so that the warriors of the desert do not disrespect you. How many times have I told you this? Only blood can convince warriors.”

“[I will forgive if you promise not to do it again]”

The tribal Chief looked at Del, who was shaking pitfully and pretending to be angry. He sighed.

“Well… If that’s the angel’s will… Then, can we entrust the angel’s care to Fernando as an act of atonement? It seems impossible to wash away the sin like this.”

The tribal Chief said, licking his lips. “Since Fernando has lost a hand, he can no longer go to the battlefield. If he cannot be by the angel’s side, it would be better for him to take his own life.”

“Yes Angel! My life has already been discarded, I want to offer it to you!”

Fernando shouted as blood started to flow from his forehead,Del nodded quickly with a face that seemed to collapse at any moment.

However Del could even write a few words, a clear and cheerful laughter interrupted.

“Haha. How amusing.”

Andrea walked slowly towards Del. Even though it was a leisurely pace, the Chief’s chest muscles tensed as they approached. It felt like the air around them was changing.

“If the chief says so, our kind angel has no choice but to forgive, right?”. Because he can’t be a person who throws away others’ lives like trash.”

Andrea wrapped one arm around Del’s shoulder and pulled him towards him. The warmth emanating from his solid body was felt next to Del.

“Why are you trying to stick that fanatical believer to Del again? To see if the angel runs away? Or do you want to get rid of the thorn attached to the angel’s side?”

With a playful smile, Andrea’s words made the tribal Chief snort.

“That’s a clear misunderstanding. There’s no way the angel would abandon our Sablum and run away. And we have no intention of tearing you away. Of course, it’s true that it’s uncomfortable for someone like you who denies the true nature of the angel, but how can we harm someone who is receiving the angel’s favor?”

The tribal chief said that and sheathed the sword back at his waist.

“I accepted you as a guardian knight and allowed you to stay in Sablum, but I don’t think you have the qualification to represent the angel’s will. So don’t cross the line. Don’t interfere in the conversation either.”

After warning Andrea, the chief respectfully bowed to Del.

“We’ll leave Fernando here. Please do what you wish. You can kill him or heal him. it’s up to you. Just don’t send him back. The fate of a useless warrior is only suicide. Merciful Angel, I believe you won’t burden Fernando with such a fate.”

With that, the chief left, leaving only Fernando behind. Fernando continued to lie down, blood streaming from his head. Del sighed deeply and brought ointment and bandages from somewhere. He then squatted in front of Fernando and offered them.

“Angel!”

Fernando, a fervent believer in the angel, was deeply moved, as if Del had granted him grace. Tearfully, he reached out both hands to receive the ointment and bandages. However, his action only made it more apparent that one of Fernando’s hands was missing.

Del looked at Fernando’s swollen wrist, then opened the ointment and applied it to the wound on his forehead. Without speaking, Del’s expression and actions revealed he was feeling guilt.

Too kind for your own good

Andrea found it frustrating. When he kidnapped Del before, he thought his kind nature would be easy to take advantage of but now he was worried.

Fernando closed his eyes in ecstasy, as if he had received a kiss from Del. Andrea thought he was filthy. With that thought, Andrea lifted his foot. He grabbed Del’s wrist, who was applying ointment to Fernando. Del looked up at Andrea with widened eyes.

Andrea spoke thoughtfully.

“Del, if you touch it like that, the wound will hurt more. I’ll take care of it. Go wash your hands and rest.”

“It doesn’t hurt at all. Angel! I was actually thinking it was a blessing! Don’t be deceived by that guy’s coaxing…”

“Fernando, do you dare ask the angel to heal a self-inflicted wound right now? You haven’t seen him that way but he is a really nasty person.”

When Andrea pretended to be surprised, Fernando gnashed his teeth. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Andrea smoothly took the medicine and bandages from Del’s hand and lifted Del to his feet.

“You might be surprised, so just lie down. Your energy will drop further.”

Andrea said, brushing aside a few strands of hair that were sticking to Del’s eyes. For a moment, Del’s eye quickly became red as if he was moved to tears.

“I’ll go out and treat Fernando. Don’t worry,” Andrea’s affectionate voice made Mel nod obediently. Andrea watched Del stumble to the bathroom until the end, then turned his gaze to Fernando.

“This fox-like guy…! I don’t need your treatment!”

Fernando said in a voice filled with resentment. Nevertheless, he lowered his voice so that Dl wouldn’t hear.

“Do I look like I have a the heart to treat a bastard like you? You’re mistaken…”

“What, you bastard?”

Fernando stood up abruptly, his face turning red. Andrea playfully turned his right hand in different directions.

“Don’t you want to pay for the hand? If you want to have a rematch, I can do it anytime.”

Andrea’s eyes narrowed prettily, and his pink eyes sparkled. It was natural for Fernando to take the bait.

***

Sniff, sniff.

I came into the bathroom and washed my face thoroughly and blew my nose. It was fortunate that Andrea didn’t follow me. I couldn’t show the act of blowing my nose while pretending to be arrogant and noble.

After washing my hands thoroughly and drying them, I didn’t have the courage to go out of the bathroom. I sat on the edge of the empty bathtub.

Most people living in the desert were war-like. People like the Teacher almost always stayed at home, devoting themselves to research and study, but such people like him were rare.

Usually, Sablum people roamed the desert with adults from a young age, familiarizing themselves with the terrain, hunting for food, and fighting with other tribes. Occasionally, they also engaged in the subjugation of monsters appearing in the desert.

The most important value in the desert was survival. Everyone, regardless of gender and age, was raised as a warrior, and if they failed, death was the only outcome. Another way, they could prove that staying in Sablum was advantageous for the tribe’s survival. Was by using extraordinary intelligence to improve their lives, like teacher, or simply exist as a lucky angel bringing good fortune, like me.

Nevertheless, the underlying principle of the tribe was undoubtedly based on physical strength. People living in Sablum had to follow the laws of Sablum. The chief also said that I must follow this.

So sometimes, when the chief asked me to make choices in the same way as before, I had no choice but to follow the laws of the desert. It was cruel and ruthless, but truly, it was unavoidable.

This kind of situation has occurred more than once or twice. Until now, when villagers made mistakes, the chief entrusted me with the authority to punish them. Each time, the number of my subordinates increased. Yeah, it was nothing special.

‘But why do I feel like this…’

I held the still trembling hands together, pressed them without meaning too. Finger-shaped white marks were left on the palms, slowly turning red.

“If the chief says so, our kind angel has no choice but to forgive, right?”

Andrea’s voice confused my thoughts. I had never thought that way. I just… thought it was supposed to be that way. If the chief’s words forced me to forgive, then…

I chewed my tongue carefully enough to come to my senses. Moderate pain awakened my reasoning.

Living in the desert meant following the laws of the desert. However, if I were to leave the desert…

“Let’s go somewhere else.”

If I were to leave with Andrea, as Andrea suggested… Could I be safer and happier?

For the first time, I pictured the world outside of Sablum.
