Chapter 139: Chapter 138: Heart of Flames and Source of Tranquility

“So, what should we do with this treasure chest monster?” Evan pointed at it, which was still trying to struggle.

Vincent Wolf looked at it, seeing its continued effort to close its sharp jaws. Unfortunately, those metal bars were too hard, blocked in its mouth, forcing it to keep its jaws wide open, without any success of closing them.

Now, the treasure chest monster was suffering due to the tough object stuck in its mouth and piteous tears filled the eyes which had emerged from somewhere on its body.

Wolf approached the treasure chest monster and gave it another kick. The creature growled angrily, shivered violently, and its jaws snapped together fiercely. This startled Wolf into taking a step back.

But the treasure chest monster’s reaction was meaningless. It still couldn’t get rid of the steel bars.

Seeing this, Wolf was utterly relieved and gave the creature another good beating.

“So, you dare to threaten me, huh?” Another beating. “Were you trying to bite me off earlier?”

He beat it once more.

“What junk do you have in your belly? Could you have some good stuff!”

Ended up with another round of beating.

“I’ll figure out the reason later. For now, just venting off!”

As the monster got slapped one after another, it got totally puzzled: Do you know how much your beatdown has hurt my feelings? Wolf, having vented his feelings, heaved a long sigh of relief.

“Feel good!”

Dragon Town and Evan also circled around the monster, looking at this pitiful creature.

“What kind of contraption is this?”

“Is it a pet beast? I’ve never seen one like this before.”

“Never mind that, what do we have to do to pass this level?”

Wolf and the others fell into deep thought.

Logically speaking, they already had the treasure chest monster in hand. Technically, this should mean an immediate pass on this level, right?

Could it be that there are some hidden criteria they haven’t met yet?

At this thought, the eyes of the three men gradually turned dangerous, and they stared straight at the chest monster.

The treasure box monster looked at their dangerous glances and couldn’t help but be frightened: What are you going to do! What are you going to do! Don’t come over!!!

Crash bang chickle—

After a harsh toss-up, Wolf and the others were wiping their sweat, and the intact chest monster was now a pile of broken wooden planks.

“Ha ha, I didn’t expect to gain a surprise!”

Vincent Wolf looked at the two gems in his hand.

A red gem and a blue gem, shining splendid in his palm, each gem with its unique characteristics.

The red gem was filled with orange-red flames, like a hot star, its luster revealed endless passion and desire. Every moment, the red gem seemed to be throbbing and burning, drawing eyes and arousing the deepest desires of people’s hearts.

On the other hand, the blue gem gleamed with a calm and mysterious glow, like a bright star in the night sky. Its colour was pure and see-through, as if peering through the gem would reveal the secrets of the universe. Each beam of light from the blue gem emitted wisdom and calm, instilling assurance and courage in people.

These two gems reflected each other in Wolf’s hand, illuminating his palm.

These two gems were formed from the chest monster’s eyes after it had been disassembled by Wolf. As for the rest of the creature’s body parts, they were utterly useless, just a pile of junk.

Wolf showed the two gems to Dragon Town, asking if he recognized what they were.

Dragon Town shook his head and said, “I’m just a Commander after all. How could I know everything?”

Before Wolf could respond further, a stream of information flowed into their brains.

[You have resisted the temptation of the treasure chest and used your wisdom to kill the monster, successfully passing the second round, and receiving special evolution resources: Heart of Flames and Source of Tranquility.]

After this message appeared, the little path continued to stretch forward, making it clear that the way to the next level was open. “Heart of Flames and Source of Tranquility?”

Wolf held the two gems and felt their power.

When holding the Heart of Flames, Wolf felt a strong desire to strive rising up within him, and his body was filled with an inexplicable impulse, like having a shot of adrenaline or a serving of chicken soup.

When holding the Source of Tranquility, however, Wolf felt calm and peaceful, free of all desires, as if entering an eternal state of Enlightenment. He seemed to have become a master of philosophy and understood the secrets of life, with a tranquil heart unperturbed by any ripples.

When both gems were held together, the two feelings merged and neutralized each other, as if nothing had happened at all.

“I’ve never heard of such effects. This truly is a treasure.”

Wolf was content with the abilities of these two gems. It was worth going through this challenge.

“They’re so pretty! Can I have a look?” Evan looked at the two beautiful gems, his eyes filled with envy.

“Of course.”

When Dragon Town took it, his body shivered slightly. His eyes seemed to be filled with blazing flames, his muscles bulging, as if he was ready to engage in a fierce battle.

When Evan accepted it, his eyes became crystal clear, full of wisdom, and a halo as if like Buddha’s Light shimmered behind him. He looked like he was about to chant averse of Amitabha.

“Is the effect that obvious?”

Seeing this, Wolf immediately took the gems back from both of them. Only then did they gradually return to normal.

“What on earth is this to directly influence my thoughts?” Dragon Town was a little amazed.

“Yeah, but it feels pretty good though.” Evan seemed to be longing for more.

Wolf put away both gems.

“It seems that we received special evolution resources after passing the second level. These two gems are indeed rare treasures. I can’t believe we got such items at the second level. I wonder what we’ll receive in the later levels.”

“But what if I had chosen the other fork in the path? Transaction? What would have happened if I’d chosen that? How would the opponent trade with me? What could I trade with them?”

Wolf stopped thinking about these possibilities. It was of no use because he hadn’t chosen “Transaction”. There was no way of knowing the specifics of such a trade unless he happened to encounter and choose it the next time.

Wolf and the others continued forward. Soon, they saw the crossroad for the third level.

This time, the crossroad had three branches.

One was “Battle”.

One was “Maze”.

One was “Guardian”.

“The third level actually has three options, even more than the previous ones.” Looking at the three branches, Wolf was somewhat unsure.

“I can understand ‘Battle’, and I can kind of guess what ‘Maze’ means. But ‘Guardian’ is a little harder to figure out.. What exactly does it want me to guard, or does it mean something else?”
