The buildings had been rearranged slightly by the time he had next arrived, but it would take a few more weeks before the project would have been complete. Either way, Ken could feel someone gaze at him from behind, an Elder of the family.

“Are you sure you want ten middle grade earth pills today and a high grade earth pill tomorrow?” Ken asked.

“The hundreds of low grade pills you have made are a welcome addition, but since the effects of the array and the air will be increased, I think it would be best if we also ask for higher grade pills for the last two days.” Patriarch Newblade had committed to believing in this Arrayist. His family had been in decline for some time, though they were originally a great family, but now it’s gotten to the point that the Blackdeer and Wildroar families, each branches from the Blackwind and Wildwind families, have surpassed them.

“I understand,” Ken said, refining those pills for the Newblade Patriarch, spending more time on the jade boulder.

“Are you sure you don’t want to be his maid?” Patriarch Newblade asked his daughter.

“I’m certain! I don’t believe that he’s as great as you think he is. He has some skill, but it isn’t enough to live! If we want to soar again, then we need to have great warriors, not Alchemists and Arrayists!” Hana stared up at her father confidently.

[My dear Hana, if only your mother were here…]

Patriarch Newblade rubbed his forehead, sighing. “Then I won’t force you.” Though it would have been best for his family to get closer to the Arrayist, he couldn’t force his only daughter.

Ken finished creating the pills and cultivating, heading back to the Town Lord’s estate. A month had passed already, and by that time he had already become Middle Martial Apprentice, something which had taken him years to achieve. The pills and the boulder had given him a lot of cultivation, and the arrays he had put on the three women had made him close to stepping into Higher Martial Apprentice.

He had never felt so much power before, but this was nothing compared to the others. He had no idea what Emerald was, but Chandi was finally established in Middle Martial Expert. Yue was so close to reaching Lower Martial Warrior, though Nana was around his level.

During the month, he and Emerald had managed to make another four low grade mountain pills, which would be a great bargaining chip he could use for the future.

“We’re almost done here,” Ken said. “One more pill and we’ll be heading out.” He looked at the four women. They had worked hard for an entire month, so he thought about taking them out on a date somewhere. A nice place to eat, a place to shop for clothes, and maybe even some jewellery too.

When they finished refining the last pill for the Town Lord, Ken also placed down two more small pots. “These are for any women within your household,” Ken said.

“Is this the glow cream I’ve heard so much about?”

“Glow cream?” Ken asked.

“One of our maids recently has been testing the product you had given my granddaughter. Her face seems to glow ever since she had applied this on her face. She was quite a pretty young woman, so I’m told.” The Town Lord cleared his throat. “However, now she’s far prettier, so I’m told.”

“I’m glad that she is enjoying it.” Ken smiled. “It’s a new product which I have yet to sell through any means. I’d like to gift them to your family for taking good care of me this past month.”

“I won’t stand on ceremony,” the Town Lord said, accepting the two pots. “My wife has been nagging, uh, speaking highly of your product and has politely asked me to find a chance to speak with you about it. It seems your sight is greater than I thought.” The Town Lord chuckled.

“My sight needs to be decent, since I’m sitting so low.”

The Town Lord coughed into his fist, trying to not laugh. Ken, on the other hand, was chuckling at his own joke. Of course, it was quite a terrible thing to poke fun at himself, but he was showing the Town Lord a great respect by putting himself down.

“Arrayist Ken, may I speak with you about another matter? It’s about your array abilities.”

“What about them?” Ken asked, smirking behind his mask. He had been expecting such a topic to arrive, but hadn’t expected it immediately before he was to leave.

“You see, the small realm which has opened leads to a dungeon. The array has yet to be broken, and there isn’t much time left…”

“If I recall correctly, there’s roughly two weeks for the entrance to be opened and held open?”

“That’s exactly right. Do you believe you’d be able to assist?” The Town Lord tried to ask diplomatically.

“I’m not sure. I’d have to see the array first. Whether or not I can assist will be up to the type of array. I’m actually quite young in comparison to all the great Town Arrayists, so I’m not sure how much I will be able to assist them.”

“Would you be willing to take a look?”

Ken remained silent for a long moment, allowing the Town Lord to stew in the silence. “For the right price, I’m sure I could look at it and see if I can help.”

“What kind of price?”

“A fair price, Town Lord.” Ken remained vague on purpose, not giving the Town Lord the upper hand in negotiations just yet.

“When would you like to take a look?”

“I believe the Town Arrayists will be able to manage without me. However, in the rare chance that they don’t, I don’t mind coming to take a look when the time draws nearer.”

The Town Lord couldn’t appear too eager for his assistance, in case he ended up offending the Town Arrayists. However, he couldn’t let Ken just walk away from the matter, which was of great importance.

“Then please accompany me in checking the array once the time draws nearer,” the Town Lord said.

Ken bowed his head. “Since you’ve invited me, I will surely take a look.”

“Then I will leave you to your business, Arrayist Ken.”

Ken left, thinking about the conversation he had just had with the Town Lord. He smiled to himself, thinking about how much he could ask for once the time drew nearer. Of course, he may not be able to ask for anything if the array was broken, and if that came to be, he’d have to think about how he would get a seat. He had already denied the Commerce Head, but he had given Newblade his interest.

[No, I’m not strong enough. If something were to happen to me, then the others would have trouble brought to them. I can’t just send them in either, in case someone tries to aim for them…]

He sighed, thinking about the positives and negatives which came from having so many women around him. His heart was too good natured, and so he wasn’t going to send his slaves off to die in a dungeon. He may be able to find many treasures within the dungeon, but his slaves still meant too much to him.

Nana had given her virginity to help heal him of his body. Yue had become quite an aide, and was even willing to give herself to him. Chandi was someone who had quite a dark past, and he had promised to help her with her revenge.

He wondered what the price of his principles were.
