Chapter 24

After receiving a call from the Public Security Bureau, Lian Xi immediately took a taxi and went out. He arrived at the Su City Public Security Bureau within half an hour.

Nowadays, there are a lot of different types of phone scams. The scammers all spoke a unique dialect version of Mandarin. Although most people could see through the scam immediately, there would inevitably be some who would fall for it. Since scammers usually have all kinds of accurate information about you, even something as detailed as your ID number.

The best way to deal with this kind of fraud is to directly find the nearest local police station and call the police!

When Lian Xi came to the Public Security Bureau, he still held onto a thread of hope that perhaps this was all a scam and there was nothing wrong with his housemate.

However when he arrived and mentioned Su Jiao’s name, the young policeman who received him looked up and stood up: “Come with me. There is something I hope you can assist in the investigation with, Mr. Lian.”

Lian Xi: “… …”

Dear Lord, Su Jiao really was in trouble!

As walked with the young policeman, Lian Xi thought about what kinds of illegal and criminal things could the short housemate be involved in. He thought… Could it be that Su Jiao was seen one day while he was catching a ghost and frightened someone so much they fainted and then reported him afterwards?

That wasn’t likely right?

In just a short, one minute journey, a lot of thoughts ran through Lian Xi’s head. He started to wonder if he really knew the face of his friend, after all people could not be judged by their surface appearance. Has he been tricked by Su Jiao? Was he some kind of beast with a human face? At this moment, the young policeman opened a creaking door and Lian Xi looked inside.

He saw a middle-aged policeman sitting in a quiet and narrow room. He smiled as he looked at Lian Xi. The gentle smile and eagle-eyed gaze focused on him.

The middle-aged policeman noticed the complex expression on Lian Xi’s face and figured out what he was thinking immediately. He straightforwardly pointed out Su Jiao’s ‘crime’: “Lian Xi, don’t be nervous. It’s not a major matter, we just need you and your friend to assist us in our investigation. Come and sit down.”

The policeman smiled slightly: “The first question I wanted to ask you is… at the end of last month, why did your housemate Su Jiao suddenly move out of your current house and return to school? Was there any particular reason?”

Lian Xi was stunned and for a short while countless thoughts flashed through his brain.

Was this related to Su Jiao moving back to school?

Could it be said that Su Jiao’s incident has something to do with SuZhou City University?

The young man looked calm on the surface. He pulled back a chair and sat down. With a serious tone he said: “Su Jiao moved out because I had a fight with him…”

In the small interview room, Lian Xi and the middle-aged policeman’s conversation flowed eloquently.

The little policeman who led Lian Xi watched quietly from the next room. After a while, Deputy Wu came in and the little policeman hurriedly shouted “Deputy” and Lao Wu waved his hand. The Deputy of the Major Crimes Unit, who had made outstanding achievements and solved several major crimes, slowly narrowed his eyes. He stared at the respectful but not humble young man on the other side of the one way glass.

Deputy Wu smiled: “This guy knows something.”

Little policeman: “Huh?”

Deputy Wu: “He was probably lying. It probably wasn’t as simple as Su Jiao simply moving out because of an argument. But the part where he said he didn’t know Su Jiao was dating someone, that seems to be true. It seems that Su Jiao didn’t move back to the school dormitory because he had a girlfriend. Okay, Su Jiao’s interview is almost complete as well. Later on, let this Lian Xi take his housemate away.”

The little policeman said in surprise: “Deputy, we’re just going to let Su Jiao go like this?”

Deputy Wu: “Why, do you have any evidence that he’s done something wrong? We called him over just to ask him a few questions, do you really want to lock him up? Learn to talk less and do more, do you understand?”

The little policeman closed his mouth and nodded obediently.

Half an hour later, Lian Xi stood in the lobby on the first floor of the Public Security Bureau and saw Su Jiao come out looking like a shrivelled eggplant.

The short housemate looked really really embarrassed. He was still wearing his pajamas, his hair was messed up like straw in a chicken coop, his eyes were a little red and and his lips were trembling.

Lian Xi glanced at him: “You didn’t cry, did you?”

Su Jiao brushed his head, feeling extremely aggrieved: “Wait until you’re wronged and see how angry you get!”

Lian Xi thought about it. Ever since he was young he was often wronged and thought to be a lunatic, so he had gotten used to it. Now that he thought about it….

It was indeed very angering!

The two walked out of the Public Security Bureau and Lian Xi began to call a taxi.

Su Jiao looked around aimlessly and felt very bitter, “Why do you think they would think that I’d kidnap Sun Yan and even suspect me of killing her? How could I kill someone? Even if I did kill someone, how could I let them find out? I’ve been trapped here for an entire day and those four policemen took turns asking me questions until I felt like my head was going to explode.”

After calling a taxi, Lian Xi turned his head to look at his housemate. When the other party finished complaining, he said quietly: “Should we go home together?”

Su Jiao was taken aback and he slowly raised his head to look at Lian Xi.

The eyes of the two met in the air. After a while, Su Jiao raised the corners of his mouth, pressed his lips together and snorted: “Humph, all right then, let’s go.”

In the car, Su Jiao told Lian Xi what happened during this time.

“This girl, Sun Yan, is a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts of our school. She is very nice and quite popular. The day I just moved back to school, she was very enthusiastic and organized a welcome party for me. Some graduate students from the Media College next door were also called over and everyone got to know each other.”

Su Jiao touched his chin: “Let me tell you, when I first met this girl, I didn’t expect her to be so popular and know so many people. Her appearance ma, it’s just okay. Not the goddess type. At the time I was just judging based on appearance and I didn’t think too much. I didn’t know she was so popular with the seniors. It seemed that several graduate students were interested in her. Indeed, what’s the importance of looks? Personality is the most crucial thing. So I quite liked this girl too. It was comfortable getting along with her.”

Lian Xi: “How did she disappear?”

Su Jiao: “I don’t know!”

Lian Xi: “???” You’ve already been taken to the police station and you still don’t know?

Su Jiao felt extremely wronged: “I slept in the dormitory this morning and slept well. All of a sudden someone broke through the door, rushed in and arrested me. I didn’t even know that Sun Yan was missing!”

Lian Xi thought for a moment: “Since this matter involves you, although it seems that the police are done with you, you should ask your classmates to figure out clearly what happened.”

Su Jiao: “Yeah!”

The sun in the evening of September no longer had the vicious heat of midsummer.

There is only half a kilometer away from the College of Arts of SuZhou City University to the graduate dormitory.

The College of Literature was a seemingly ordinary small building without any special decorations or iconic buildings. It stood beside the School of Media in such a clean and simple manner and reflected its slogan: to cultivate texts in peace and express elegance.

Facing the bright sunset; a tall, flat-headed young man walked out of the liberal arts college building holding a large pile of books. Right after he walked out, his phone rang.

The strong, flat-headed young man held the pile of books in one arm easily. He saw the name flashing on the phone screen. He was taken aback for a moment and then quickly connected the call: “Hey Su Jiao? Ah, are you okay? Today, the police came and suddenly arrested you in the morning. I was shocked. What the hell is going on?”

“Um, Sun Yan? Didn’t you know, she seems to have been missing for several days now. I also heard about it from Lao Liu from the dormitory next door. He said that Sun Yan hasn’t appeared in the past few days, and there is no reply from her on WeChat. They thought this little girl didn’t want to take care of us old fries anymore.”

“Okay , I’ll help you ask around what’s going on. When are you coming back? Ah? You’re not coming back tonight? Oh okay.”

“Ah, don’t mention it, I understand. After this kind of thing has happened, you’ll want to move out of the school dormitory. Come by tomorrow and get your things ba.”

“Okay, en, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

After hanging up the phone, Xie Ze sent a WeChat to the undergraduate students he knew, asking if they knew anything about Sun Yan. After sending the message, he held his books and quickly walked to the graduate dormitory.

In the dim sunset, a strong and upright man from QingDao stood in front of the dormitory building and felt around in his pockets.

“Eh, where’s my access control card?” He couldn’t find it for a long time so Xie Ze had no choice but to put the stack of books on the high platform aside in order to free his hands to carefully search for the access card. However, as soon as he put the book on the high platform, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a white object in a corner.

In his chest, his heart beat violently.

Xie Ze slowly raised his head and looked at the quiet little white dove sculpture standing in the corner of the dormitory building.

In the evening, the warm wind blew the young man’s cheeks and all the sounds in his ears disappeared. He seemed to be possessed by a demon, with his mouth agape and he stared at the half-person tall white dove without blinking.

For a long time, a hoarse and low voice sounded in the sound of the wind.

“Can you tell me…your dream?”

The moon was in the middle of the sky and the stars were dense.

Lian Xi finished his live broadcast and was about to go out with Lord Black Reaper to catch ghosts. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the short housemate standing there and gritting his teeth. His eyes were serious and red as he looked at Lian Xi.

Lian Xi: “…”

“Eh, is something the matter?”

Su Jiao: “I want to figure out what’s going on!”

Lian Xi: “?”

Su Jiao: “The midnight hour is the time when the world has the most yin energy. Lian Xi, you help me protect me during a spell. I want to see if I can find where Sun Yan is!”

Lian Xi said with surprise, “You actually have this ability?”

Su Jiao glared at him, “I still come from a famous sect! I’m a disciple from the lineage of HuaXia’s famous QuFu Kong family!”

Lian Xi: “…”

Lian Xi: “How do you want me to protect you during the spell?”

After half an hour.

In a remote corner of the garden of the residential area, the wind was rustling and the moonlight was impenetrable.

Lian Xi: “…”

President Lie: “Heh.”

Su Jiao with his hands on his hips: “That’s it. You keep a watch out for me. When the security patrols come over, tell me quickly. The spell to find a ghost looks very strange, if a regular person sees it they might call the police. I don’t want to go to the police station again.” Su Jiao had a lingering fear of it, “This place has a lot of yin energy so it should be enough to communicate through the different planes, and also there’s no camera around here.”

Lian Xi asked suddenly . “Can you only find ghosts?”

Su Jiao paused, then turned to look at him: “Yes.”

Everyone was silent.

For a long time, in the dark and silent night, the voice of the short housemate was a little low and depressed. This voice was so small that it seemed to be an illusion but it passed into Lian Xi’s ears.

“…I hope I won’t find her.”

11:45PM in the community garden.

A gloomy cold wind was blowing, the shadows of the tree swayed and made a clattering sound.

A delicate young man standing deep in the shadows gradually narrowed his gaze. He flipped his left hand and a white dragon jade pen appeared on it, his right hand was swirling and was holding a celadon cup. Su Jiao spoke in a low voice. He held the pen with one hand and opened the yellow seal on the small cup with the other. The soft tip of the pen stretched into the small cup and became stained with bright red blood. He began to write the word “Cong Xin” in the air.

“By the HunYuan River with Vajras on each side, ghosts pass through from a thousand miles, entering in a rush!”

“Sun Yan!”

“Soul return….”

“Soul return!”

Suddenly, the wind blew wildly but miraculously it was confined only to this small garden.

In the air, the word “song” written by Su Jiao flashed red. It flashed many times but every time it seemed to be shattered by something and it kept dimming.

In the end, the word “song” finally fell into a disadvantage. With a bang, it was completely shattered.

Lian Xi frowned: “What’s the situation?”

The word “song” was broken and Su Jiao’s face suddenly turned pale. He paused to recover himself then put away his writing brush and blood cinnabar. He said: “My spiritual spell is broken. There’s three situations that can happen. First, Sun Yan is not dead yet and her soul is fighting against me and refuses to leave her body and cover over. Second, Sun Yan is dead but she has already gone for reincarnation. I definitely can’t fight the underworld for someone.”

Lian Xi asked, “Is there a third?”

“The third option…” Before Su Jiao finished speaking, a cold snort rang from behind the two of them.

Lian Xi turned around to look.

In the dark night, Lord Black Reaper’s cold eyebrows were stained by the somewhat lonely night. Lie Chen curled his lips but there was no smile in his eyes. He turned over the reaper record with one hand. His eyelids had always been closed since Su Jiao shamelessly asked the two reapers to help protect him against the law. At this moment he finally lifted his eyes and an expression of danger and violence were brewing within them….

Lie Chen smiled darkly: “Interesting… is it trying to steal our job?”

His voice fell and the Lord Black Reaper turned to look at Lian Xi. “Can you endure it?”

Lian Xi: “…????? “

President Lie let out a soft snort, flipped his hand and grabbed Lian Xi’s wrist.

“Catch that thing.”

Skin it, tear it apart!

…… Tell it to spit out our jobs!
