"Hey," Noah gently called her attention when he stepped onto the balcony.

She has been staying on the balcony since she returned from the hospital with Ellise. She glanced up from bending over the screen of her new Ipad.

After visiting her doctors, she insisted that they got a new Ipad. She doesn't like the feeling of using her company-issued computer, doing personal stuff after what she found out from Ellise.

"Hey to you too."

"You okay?" Noah pulled a chair next to her and put his palm on her forehead. "Are you feeling sick?"

"Have you talked to my doctor?" She asked instead of answering his questions.

He nodded as he put his other palm onto his forehead. "They gave me the report. Thank God, it's clear. They told me that whatever they gave you would just render you weak for weeks but you'll get fine eventually." His tone doesn't sound glad. He was still mad that someone got to her because of him.

"It's the same thing they told me." She returned to her reading. She didn't see Noah's eyebrows creased.

"Baby, are we good?" He cocked his head to the side. The meeting took a long time to finish. There are a lot of things that have to be settled in the lab and since Markus will leave at the end of the month, they have to push some contracts for earlier completion.

He left Antonio perusing documents in the library for he wanted to check on Jess, and here she is, cold and distant.

"Yeah, we're good," she responded but didn't lift her eyes from the Ipad screen.

He gazed at Jess, observing her body language. Her words were contradictory to the way she acted. "You got a new Ipad?" he asked.

She put the Ipad down and sighed. She also closed the laptop on the coffee table and faced Noah. "I asked Ellise to get me a new Ipad so I don't have to worry about you checking on what I'm doing."

Noah blinked once and met Jess's accusatory eyes. "Baby, I"--

"You installed something on my computer to keep an eye on me without my knowledge. The company already has something installed on it. Why do you need another one without telling me?" Her voice raised up because Noah's face was filled with guilt.

He was taken aback that Jess found out what he did. He was too worried last night that it escaped his mind the possibility that Ellise can find out the program that he installed on Jess's computer to check what she was working on.

"I'm sorry. I installed that program because Dr. Sison gave you an access to one confidential --"

"All research in the lab is confidential. Thus, we were given a computer to use at work. You can already access what was the research about, why put another…" she was lost for words because her anger rose up her chest. When Noah tried to reach her, she swatted his hands. "Don't try to lie. If you do and your lies pile up—you wouldn't have any more chances in the future to explain yourself!"

"Nicole used to work on that research. The two of us actually..." he cleared his throat before continuing. "The study has a long history. We were about to shelve that research when some data about it went missing... Jess, I want to tell you more about it but most of the information was confidential and I can't repeat it to you without the proper clearance."

"And what does it have something to do with what you did? I mean, I don't see any reason for you to install a spy software to a company-issued computer to spy on me."

To be honest, she doesn't have an idea how that program works exactly. She wasn't as techie as Ellise. And her understanding of how it works was just that Noah, without asking her permission, and without her knowledge installed something in her computer that would enable him to check on what she was doing in her computer without her knowing. And that just felt wrong. Not just because he deliberately hid it from her. More because, if Ellise didn't find out about it, she wondered if Noah would tell her.

Thinking of him, checking on her behind her back brought distrust. Secrets...she wondered if he was telling the truth about him not remembering her in the past. Or he was lying. And if he was lying, how much was he keeping from her and why?

Does this mean Noah didn't trust her? Multiple times, she blinked her eyes to stop the train of her thoughts. The first time Ellise told her about it, she felt defensive and annoyed at her because she felt like she was sowing distrust between her and Noah. But thinking that Noah never trusted her in the first place hit her like a punch in the gut.

"Is there any doubt in your mind about me?" Her eyes were glued to his face. She squinted her eyes and didn't blink. She does not want to miss any of his facial expressions. She wanted to know what the truth was.

"Yes."

Upon hearing Noah's reply, Jess's jaw dropped.  "E-excuse me?" Her eyebrows shot up to her forehead and her heart was squeezed inside her ribcage.

"Yes and no. Yes, because the reason for installing that program was to check on what you're working on…" He raised his hand when he saw Jess recoiled in pain. "But not at you! You have to believe me!" He quickly added. "It's just that I don't believe in coincidence. And you working on that project was too much of a coincidence for me. Especially that we haven't found out who stole some of the data from that research and why."

"Coincidence? Why? Because your ex-wife was working on that research and now I'm also part of that research?" She shook her head in disbelief. "I don't see the coincidence that you were talking about Noah. I am an intern in your company. Dr. Sison chose me to become her assistant because I put a note…" her voice trailed off with the memory of why she was chosen to be Dr. Sison's assistant.

"Jess?" Noah's guilt turned into worry when he saw Jess pale.

"I read some part of the research study and put a note that the data looked incomplete" --

"You did what?" Noah asked in incredulity.
