"You can't tell me this is nothing to worry about," Kaylee half-whispered, as the three of us stood just outside English class.

Paige grimaced, "It's definitely not natural, but she seems happy?"

"She almost looks like a different person!" my girlfriend insisted. "Whatever's possessing her is completely changing her appearance Paige, who knows what else it's doing to her?"

She had a point. Monday afternoon Ms. Fields was her normal late-thirties or early-forties self, plus she looked tired and had dark bags under her eyes. Then yesterday morning she appeared to be a decade younger and seemed happy and cheerful. Now it was Wednesday morning and our English teacher could have passed as a college senior. She looked just a year or two older than Brooke or Melody.

It wasn't just her age either. Monday her hair was curly and blonde, and she had hazel eyes. Yesterday her hair was straight blonde with red streaks and her eyes were lighter. Now her hair was longer and was more like red hair with blonde streaks. And her eyes were lighter again too, they were pale green with barely any brown at all. Even her skin seemed different this morning, it looked fairer but with some faint freckles on her cheeks.

She was dressed casual again too like she did yesterday, in sneakers and jeans and a tight t-shirt. That maybe helped make her look younger, like her clothes were similar to most of the students in the class.

The other thing that hadn't changed was she seemed happy, she was smiling as she greeted everyone coming into her class.

"We should get in there and take our seats," I suggested. "She's going to get suspicious if we keep standing around talking outside her door."

Kaylee nodded, "Good point Cass. But I think we need to confront her at some point today. Before she changes any further."

Paige agreed, "We'll try and talk with her after class."

With that settled we finally headed into the classroom and took our seats, just before the bell rang. Our English class turned out to be a lot like Creative Writing was the day before. Ms. Fields gave us some tips and hints and stuff to help us prepare for the big English exam next week.

She also made the same offer to help if anyone needed it. One of the cruder guys made a joke about wanting some one on one time with Ms. Fields since she looked really hot now, but instead of giving him a hard time the teacher just pointed out that was inappropriate. On the other hand I was positive she was smiling a little, like she almost looked pleased at the compliment.

By the end of the class I figured there was no doubt something supernatural was going on with our teacher, but I really didn't think it was anything evil or malevolent. She just seemed too nice and too happy and cheerful for there to be anything really bad going on.

When the bell rang the other students all packed up and hurried away to get lunch, while me and Kaylee and Paige took our time so we were the last three in the room with the teacher. Then I moved up to the front of the class to stand next to my friends, as Ms. Fields gave us all a curious look.

"Aren't you girls eager to go and get some lunch?" she asked.

Kaylee shook her head, "Actually ma'am we really need to have a word with you. We're a little concerned about how you've changed over the past two days."

Ms. Fields smiled, "I appreciate the concern Kaylee, but like I said yesterday it's amazing what a good night's sleep and a makeover can do for you."

"I'm sure it can do a lot," my girlfriend responded, "But it can't make you fifteen years younger, and it can't change your eye colour or your skin tone."

The teacher raised an eyebrow and asked, "What are you trying to say, Kaylee? If there's something bothering you, please come out and say it."

Kaylee glanced at me and Paige, then looked back at Ms. Fields again and stated, "We think something happened to you at that seance on Saturday. We think maybe you're possessed, by whatever was trapped in the chalice. Some kind of spirit perhaps, or an entity..."

Ms. Fields didn't look surprised or alarmed or anything like that. If anything she looked mildly amused and curious as she commented, "That's quite a bold statement, considering you didn't seem to believe in those sorts of things when you spoke to Ms. Hughes and I at the seance."

"Still, let's assume for the moment that you're correct," she continued, "What would be the next step? Would you girls try and arrange an exorcism? Would you contact local church leaders? Or would you try and do something about it yourselves?"

There was nothing threatening in her tone or expression, she still sounded friendly and had that little smile on her face. Both Kaylee and Paige seemed more wary though, and maybe more worried.

Paige responded, "We'd do what we're doing right now, talking with you to try and find out what's going on. We want to help. And because we want to help, I'm going to ask that we speak directly with Ms. Fields on her own. Not the entity, and not a combination of Ms. Fields and the entity together. Please let us speak with her now."

The teacher's smile just got a little wider, "Paige you've been speaking with me all along."

"Then may we speak with the entity for a few minutes?" Kaylee asked.

Ms. Fields' smile faltered slightly, then her eyes flicked to the exit. We all turned to look as well, in time to see the classroom door swing shut on its own. And I could see the faint purple glow of magic over it, so I knew it wasn't just locked but magically sealed.

"Why won't you people leave us alone?" Ms. Fields asked, but it wasn't her voice. "We've done nothing wrong."

Me and Kaylee and Paige all turned back towards her again, but she still looked the same as she did a few moments earlier. It was only her voice that changed, and it wasn't even so much that she sounded different as she was talking with some kind of an accent now. Her friendly smile was gone too, but she didn't look angry or scary. She definitely seemed wary and suspicious of us though.

Paige took a deep breath then asked, "May we know your name?"

"I'm called Eirys," our teacher stated.

"Could you tell us a little about yourself please?" Paige asked. "Where are you from? Why are you here? What are your plans for Ms. Fields?"

Our possessed teacher still seemed wary and distrustful of us. She shook her head, "I'll not let anyone betray me again. I don't want any trouble, neither does Diane. Please just leave us alone."

Hearing her say that sent a chill down my spine. I knew Ms. Fields' first name was Diane, but I couldn't remember how I knew it. Maybe I saw it on the school's website or something, or maybe she even mentioned it back at the start of the year. That wasn't important though.

What really freaked me out was hearing her say her own name as if she was talking about somebody else. I didn't even know why that scared me so much, considering we already knew she was possessed. For that matter Kaylee and Paige both made a point of trying to communicate with the spirit or entity. So I already knew we were talking with someone else who was in Ms. Fields' body.

The fact that the situation suddenly gave me chills was bad enough, but not understanding why it made me feel so uneasy was just as bad. Especially after everything else I'd experienced since joining Club Luna. Just in the past year I'd dealt with goddesses and vampires and fae and evil astral spirits.

So there was no reason why this situation should scare me, but it did. And that just made me feel even more anxious. Except before I could actually start to really freak out or anything, I felt a calm confidence settle over me, like a thick blanket that completely covered the uptight nervous feelings before they could come out in the open.

Then almost as if I was listening to somebody else, I heard myself speak up. My voice sounded calm, there was no trace of the anxiety or fear I was still experiencing deep inside.

"We're not trying to trick you Eirys," I told her, "And we don't want any trouble either. We just want to make sure Ms. Fields is safe. We'd like to help, both you and her. Is there anything we can do to help you?"

"Just leave us alone," she sighed. "That's all we want. We've both suffered enough, let us have our peace."

Kaylee and Paige exchanged a look, then the athletic brunette asked "Would you tell us more about yourself Eirys? Where are you from? What happened to you, why were you suffering?"

The spirit within our teacher hesitated, she looked at each of us in turn. Then she took a deep breath and answered, "I lived in Wales. In my twentieth year I was accused of practicing witchcraft. The magistrate bribed strangers to bear false witness against me, while those who would have testified in my defence were threatened to remain silent. I was unjustly condemned, and they put me to death as a witch."

"With my dying breath I swore vengeance on those who'd wronged me, who stole my life away from me," she added quietly. "Upon my death my spirit was free and I had my revenge. I haunted and tormented the magistrate along with everyone else who conspired or contributed to my death. The last was the English Lord who employed the magistrate. I learned too late that the real dark witch was his mistress. She entrapped my spirit and bound me within a silver goblet, where I remained imprisoned until recent events saw me awakened, and ultimately released."

I still had that calm confident act going on as I asked, "If you weren't a witch, how were you able to accomplish all that Eirys? How have you changed Ms. Fields' body? How did you close and seal the classroom door?"

Our teacher shook her head, "I never said I wasn't a witch. Only that I was unjustly condemned, based upon false testimony. In life I used my talents for good. I healed the sick, I helped my family, my friends, and my neighbours. I knew there was someone practicing dark magic because I dispelled her curses and bewitchments whenever I found them. My reward for trying to help people was to be accused of causing those same evil deeds. I was blamed for the dark works I myself dispelled. And I was put to death for crimes the magistrate and his Lord both knew I did not commit."

Deep inside I was still freaking out, but externally I remained calm. I responded, "Thank you for telling us your story Eirys. I'm sorry for the injustices you suffered."

Then my girlfriend asked, "If you were bound within the silver chalice how did you break free? And why now? Our understanding is you've been haunting some people for a few years, why not free yourself and possess one of them instead?"

"Was it the seance that freed you?" Paige added. "Did the medium somehow break whatever bound you to the vessel?"

Eirys shook her head, "It wasn't the medium, it was her daughter, the assistant."

"I was able to borrow strength from people who touched the goblet," she explained. "But most people are weak, their energy is nothing. Usually that meant I'd only have enough strength to try and ask for help, which was the so-called haunting those men spoke of. And they always wore gloves when they handled my prison, which denied me any chance to communicate with them."

She continued, "Then that young woman touched the goblet with her bare skin, and the power within her was formidable. It was enough I was able to break my bonds completely and reverse the process that imprisoned me within the goblet."

"That's where the blood came from by the way," Eirys added. "That was my blood, the dark witch saved it from my execution. It was used to bind my soul, and when I broke the bond both my spirit and my blood were released."

That left the three of us quiet for a few moments, until Kaylee responded "Thank you for explaining that."

Then I spoke up in that same calm voice as before, "Are you planning to continue your quest for revenge, now that you have possession of Ms. Fields' body?"

"No," Eirys shook her head. "As I said, Diane and I just want to be left alone. We want peace."

Paige asked, "Why are you changing Ms. Fields' body? Are you trying to make her look more like you? Or are you going to claim her body as your own?"

Our teacher looked at the tall brunette, then her eyes drifted down towards her desk. After a second or two she looked up at Paige again.

"It's Diane here again, I mean Ms. Fields," she said without any accent. "Eirys isn't doing anything to me that I didn't want and didn't agree to. She and I have become friends, we're working together now."

Then Ms. Fields added, "And I'd appreciate if you girls didn't use such an accusatory tone when you're speaking with Eirys. I think after everything she's been through, the last thing she needs is to think someone else is making new unjust accusations towards her."

I should have felt less anxious when our teacher took over again. I thought maybe it was hearing the possessing spirit speak through Ms. Fields' body that gave me the creeps, and if that was true then this should have been better. It wasn't, if anything seeing and hearing our teacher take over again just added to the deep sense of unease that had settled in my gut like a cold weight.

Paige apologized, "On behalf of Kaylee and Cass and myself, we're sorry. I'm sure none of us meant to accuse her of anything. We're all just worried about you Ms. Fields, and we wanted to get to the bottom of all this. Have you really made some sort of agreement with her? Did you agree to let her share your body, or your life?"

"I appreciate your concern, as I said before I'm touched that you girls were worried about me," Ms. Fields replied. "And yes, Eirys and I formed a special kind of agreement on Monday, something called a pact. She and I both entered into it willingly, but the details are private."

She continued, "And now I have to ask, what do you girls know of these matters? You're all acting as though you know much more about this sort of thing than either Eirys or myself would have expected."

Kaylee and Paige exchanged another glance, while I heard myself speak up again. And despite the turmoil I felt inside my voice remained calm as ever while I responded, "The three of us are a little like Eirys was. We have certain talents, knowledge, and abilities, that we use to try and help people. We want to keep people safe from unnatural or supernatural troubles."

By the time I was finished both of my friends were sort of staring at me. Like I didn't spill anything about the club, I didn't even say we were witches or anything like that, but it was obviously a lot more than either of them were prepared to tell our teacher, or the spirit possessing her.

When Ms. Fields replied her voice was different again and she spoke with that accent, "Thank you for being honest with me, I appreciate that. I can tell there's more to you than meets the eye as well, Cassandra."

That just added to my anxiety, but on the outside I kept up my calm act without batting an eye.

At the same time Kaylee and Paige looked a little uneasy about Eirys maybe knowing what I was, but if the spirit knew for sure she didn't say anything. In fact it seemed like apart from that comment, she was ready to let the subject drop.

"So what happens next?" Paige asked after a few seconds of awkward silence. "What are you and Ms. Fields going to do?"

Our teacher's eyelids fluttered for a moment, then responded in her own voice once more. "It's Ms. Fields here again. Eirys and I both want to move on. Neither of us are looking for revenge, we're both eager to leave our pasts behind. Instead we're looking to the future, to a fresh start together. She's giving me a do-over, and I'm more than happy to share it with her."

"We're going to move again, as soon as the school year is finished. We'll find someplace new where we can both enjoy this second chance together," she added.

On the inside I remained a bundle of nerves and anxiety, but on the outside I just smiled and said "In that case Diane I wish both you and Eirys all the best."
