Ren Shuhan had never been anxious about anything related to his past lives.

Because he believed that, regardless of his past, it wouldn’t affect his current life, but Jiang Qingyue might not feel the same way.

He might worry, or be disappointed, if he found out something unpleasant about the Ren Shuhan from his past lives. Ren Shuhan couldn’t hide it from him, and revealing it might affect their relationship.

So, only when Jiang Qingyue agreed, did he open the memory package.

A massive amount of information flooded Ren Shuhan’s mind in an instant, but he felt no discomfort… then he chuckled.

“Darling,” he caressed Jiang Qingyue’s head, pulling him into an embrace and kissing his cheek, saying frankly, “In my past life, in the life before that, and even the one before that, I only loved you, only been with you.”

Jiang Qingyue widened his eyes, “Is that even possible?”

Ren Shuhan kissed him again, not with the inexperienced fervor of his youth, but soon enough, he flushed Jiang Qingyue’s face.

“Wait,” Jiang Qingyue’s eyes went blank, yet he struggled, “That doesn’t seem right, it doesn’t fit the narrative.”

“What’s normal?” Ren Shuhan held his waist firmly, pressing him down, unbuttoning his shirt confidently, telling him, “We love each other, and we will always be together, that’s what’s normal.”

“No, but…” Jiang Qingyue muttered, “A system like this should be used to compensate for shortcomings…”

In the first world, Ren Shuhan did have a slight regret.

Upon careful recollection, he had indeed been influenced by the protagonist’s halo in the first world, and had confessed his feelings to someone other than Jiang Qingyue, but it was just a tiny plot point, and it hadn’t occurred again later. Ren Shuhan had long forgotten about it.

“I think the only regret is that you can’t remember it clearly.” Ren Shuhan stroked his face, kissing his forehead.

“Why can’t I?”

Jiang Qingyue looked at him seriously, so he had to explain everything for the first time.

“In fact, we are all characters in a book,” Ren Shuhan skipped the issue of not being the protagonist, choosing a different explanation to avoid further confusion, “But I have a system, which allows me to carry memories when I transmigrate into each book, while the system can only provide you with vague memories, so that you have some affection for me from the beginning, making it easier for me to find you in each world.”

Jiang Qingyue was stunned for a moment, seemingly lost in thought.

“Sweetheart?”

Ren Shuhan stroked his slender waist, afraid that he might think of protagonist and supporting character issues, burying his face in his belly to be cute.

“I suddenly realized that I can also have a system.”

Jiang Qingyue blinked his big eyes, saying absent-mindedly.

“What?” Ren Shuhan was astonished, not expecting him to say such a thing, “Why, and how would you do that?”

“It’s actually quite simple. The system is just an artificial intelligence on the same level as the mainframe. All you need to do is bind the artificial intelligence to yourself, and the only problem is how to make the artificial intelligence traverse through wormholes.” Jiang Qingyue spoke slowly, as if afraid he wouldn’t understand.

But he still didn’t understand.

“Wormholes? Why do we need to traverse wormholes?”

“Oh, it’s like this,” Jiang Qingyue gestured, pausing for a moment before explaining, “What you call going through books is actually traversing through wormholes. The planet where I come from is in a wormhole at the same time relative to the Interstellar Alliance, but in a different space. Whereas the books you mentioned are in different times and spaces relative to the Interstellar Alliance, but there must be other similarities to form a passage for the system to enter and exit.”

Jiang Qingyue paused again, giving him time to understand.

“So theoretically, as long as I find this passage, and then build an artificial intelligence that can pass through this passage, it should work.”

Ren Shuhan was dumbfounded.

He knew his sweetheart had always been a top student, but he never expected his sweetheart to be so knowledgeable.

He had only been in university for three years! Why had he lived so many years without ever thinking of this? And what kind of mental gymnastics could lead him to this conclusion? No wonder his sweetheart wanted to become a scientist.

“Can you do it?” he asked. “This sounds a bit fantastical.”

He didn’t want his sweetheart to feel too pressured.

“I think we can try,” Jiang Qingyue suddenly pushed him away, getting up to run to the study, “And coincidentally, the research direction I’m applying for next is related to this. I’ll go ask my teacher.”

Ren Shuhan stood still for a moment, then reacted after a while, chasing after him to try and salvage the situation: “Is it necessary? Making this system should be quite complicated, right?”

“You said you regretted it, didn’t you?” Jiang Qingyue looked at him strangely and asked, “If we succeed in making the system, then next time we traverse, I’ll have memories too, and we’ll be even more compatible.”

“Oh…”

That made sense.

So Ren Shuhan watched helplessly as Jiang Qingyue ran from the bedroom to the study.

Poor him, being the husband of a scientist was tough, especially when he was burdened with an artificial intelligence. Sometimes you couldn’t tell if your wife loved you too much or loved research too much to engage in this profession.

But as long as he was happy, it was fine. Ren Shuhan was no longer the naive youth he once was; he could endure.

Moreover, now that he had retrieved his memories, Ren Shuhan finally learned the original content of this book.

Originally, Jiang Qingyue was supposed to be a villain. He had saved the protagonist Ren Shuhan but became greedy, causing Ren Shuhan to despise merfolk. That’s why Ren Shuhan hadn’t given Nanxi a warm welcome when he first met him, setting the tone for chasing his wife in the crematorium. Later, Ren Shuhan would constantly express his love for Nanxi and introduce Jiang Qingyue’s hometown to him, even gifting it as a present to Nanxi.

It was quite terrifying; fortunately, the halo shield had always been on.

But Ren Shuhan was actually looking forward to seeing how his sweetheart would perform as a villain…

It must be very cute and deserving of a good punishment, hmm.

In addition, he could now proceed with the task of revealing his wife’s identity.

With the halo shield, he could adjust the strength of the shield at any time. As long as the shield’s strength was reduced slightly, the people in this world would adore merfolk like Jiang Qingyue.

So, not long after, on Jiang Qingyue’s birthday, Ren Shuhan publicly proposed to him at his school and accepted interviews, recounting the process of their encounter and revealing that his fiancé was a merman.

“My beloved’s hometown is very inconvenient to access, so he has been studying the topic of spatial impulsivity,” Ren Shuhan said somewhat proudly, “Currently, he has been admitted to the Mainframe Research Institute as a student, and I believe that in the near future, he will succeed. By then, everyone will be able to travel to his hometown, which is a very beautiful place with azure seas and countless beautiful merfolk.”

It was big news.

Residents of the Interstellar Alliance who loved merfolk were ecstatic.

What? There are still many merfolk like this? ???

Wait, so Ren Shuhan married a merman, and this merman is also a top student who entered the Mainframe Research Institute?

Enthusiastic netizens raised all sorts of strange questions:

“So are you childhood sweethearts? Did General Lu used to be a foster child of the merfolk tribe? I’m already overwhelmed by the childhood sweetheart faction!”

“I used to sympathize with Ren Shuhan, but now I see he was actually raised in a merfolk community… So how many merfolk are there exactly? Is it a distribution by the alliance? Can everyone have one?”

“No wonder Ren Shuhan didn’t even want merfolk back then. In fact, he already had one long ago, so is Nanxi annoyed?”

“I’m about to die laughing. I remember Nanxi said in a previous interview that he was actually very sad and lonely, never enjoying the feeling of being popular, because he wanted compatriots more, but now that compatriots have come, why isn’t he coming out to speak?”

“Um, will General Lu have a little merfolk in the future?”

“We’re not considering having children at the moment. We haven’t had gotten enough of our honeymoon yet,” Ren Shuhan answered the question with a smirk, “But if we consider it in the future, I’ll love both humans and merfolk.”

Meanwhile, Ren Wan’er and Lu Xu also started a live broadcast specifically showcasing the merfolk planet, calling on everyone to donate supplies or come here to teach.

“Before this,” Jiang Chen, as the proxy leader of the entire planet, said during the live broadcast, “We have been developing with the resources left by Ren Shuhan, but we adhere to the old customs, and the winner takes it all. So in the future, no matter how much others donate, the leadership position here will always belong to him.”

So General Lu wrapped up this entire merfolk planet…

People became even more sour.

Only Nanxi, upon seeing this news, felt his whole being distort with anger.

He couldn’t believe it, couldn’t accept it… But Old General Lu actually sent him an invitation to Ren Shuhan and Jiang Qingyue’s wedding, warmly inviting him to attend, as if he had completely forgotten the awkwardness between them at the time.

And he couldn’t afford not to go, because his fans had already congratulated him on finding compatriots in the live broadcast room and urged him to go see Jiang Qingyue… Trolls were even gloating, demanding him to go to the merfolk planet to claim relatives, making Nanxi have a headache.

Not going was impossible, so he could only brace himself to go. Until the night before the wedding, Nanxi kept tossing and turning, finally coming up with a solution that was not a solution—

He absolutely couldn’t be outdone by Jiang Qingyue, but at the moment, the only thing he could surpass Jiang Qingyue in was fans and popularity—

He had to find a way to grab everyone’s attention, including Ren Shuhan’s.

Just a small reminder: The author used General Lu for both Ren Shuhan and the old grandpa. When people are talking about military achievements/Jiang Qingyue and using General Lu, they’re addressing Ren Shuhan, but with Nanxi, it’s usually the old man that’s referred to. Since that was a bit confusing, I added “Old” to General Lu to make the difference even tho it wasn’t in the original text lol Also sometimes Ren Shuhan is called a Marshal, so I guess that’s another distinction

Also… Jiang Qingyue’s ambitious
