[Tuesday’s combat training, labyrinth exploration.]

Team 3 with Shin Jonghak leading the way is definitely an easy breeze. My dude is pushing forward at a steady phase, culling out the undead barring our path. Our Archer, someone I don’t know, but definitely has the chops are offering his skills as a scout. He is definitely a great help.

Unlike me who is chilling on the sides and casually contributing with the scraps, the others are trying their best to contribute. To be fair, I am trying too. But my body still hurts like hell.

Within the Artificial Dungeon after the model of the Dark Labyrinth, for us cadets, the toughest foe we are facing is the environment. It is annoyingly dark, and most often, the friendly fire can also be our toughest challenge.

However, with our formation, we are able to reduce the friendly fire which I gravely dread. I swear. Recalling Yoenha’s fatal misfire is one hell of a memory. Sigh…

“We are about to reach our destination,” Our Archer kindly informs us. “I see light, what do we do, Jonghak?” He adds respectfully.

“Then we push forward.” Jonghak imperiously announces as he bolts forward with his spear in his hand.

Damn. He is so manly.

We follow him like baby chicks to a mother hen. Our formation is simplistic but effective. Shin Jonghak is in the front, then the secondary warrior in the middle, and the supporter (me), and archer are in the rear.

It is dark, but not so dark it will impede our close combat abilities. Still, it is a hassle not knowing how many manage to get past the warrior’s defense.

As a supporter, my job is to support. Its meaning might be too broad, but my responsibilities mainly revolve around protecting our archer which I believe I am doing quite well. It is like defending Yoenha all over again.

I swing my daggers around while taking into account the Archer’s position. I cannot have him stray too far, and it also will be bad if I accidentally hit him as the pathways within the labyrinth are suddenly becoming narrower.

Still, what can mere downgraded skeletons do against me? These mere muscle-less bastards are easy pickings! The sound of my fist and dual daggers smashing on the bones with momentum is stress-relieving.

Finally, my Team 3 exits the labyrinth. It looks like we are second. I glance at Suho and his team, and then at instructor Kim Soohyuk. Not bad. At least, from what I remember, Jonghak should be at 2nd rank in this particular Combat Training. It feels so nice something that happened in the novel is happening in front of me.

“Ah~ it is so good to meet light again,” I mutter, feeling joyous at leaving the humid artificial dungeon.

Then suddenly, I feel something stubbing my toe. I look below me and I see a broken arrow poking out from my foot. Yeah, it is Yoenha all over again.

I look for my Archer who is suddenly so far away from me. “You fucking wad!”

“Hey, it might not be me… Undead also uses bows…” The Archer weakly defends, but I insist, I give him my love by head-locking him. I scold him while rubbing my knuckle on his forehead. “You dimwit! Your arrows has the same shapes!”

“Team 3, 22 minutes 11 seconds. Second place.” Kim Soohyuk announces their time, which makes Jonghak feel continuous annoyance at the fact that Kim Suho has bested him again.

Shin Jonghak sits on a boulder in a lotus position as he rests idly and ponders of his shortcomings. He is strong. Handsome. And of noble blood! How the hell does he always lose to that bastard?

Moreover, he has more reason to feel annoyed as his own teammate, Hyon Hyung is improving drastically in his abilities… and the person responsible for this change is none other than Kim Suho.

Jonghak hears enough of his lackeys’ reports of Kim Suho’s activities, and his training Hyon Hyung is just among the few noteworthy actions to which Kim Suho allocates his spare time.

“As the team leader, shouldn’t he ask me for advice if he wants to improve? Why does he ask Suho?”

He keeps his thoughts to his own and calms the destructive envy that dirtily dwells in his heart. He glances at Suho who is lying on the grass. It seems that Kim Suho is still tired from the prior events since the museum. Again, he feels annoyed.

Despite being tired from his prior engagements, Suho still maintains his position as Rank 1 as if it is natural. Jonghak calmly inhales and exhales, trying to get his bearing. “Hyon Hyung, come here…”

What does his imperial majesty want from me?

I approach Jonghak meekly. “Yes sir, how may I help you?” I ask him, eager to be of help. I dread the day Jonghak targets me. I definitely want to live a long life. However, contrary to my expectations, he has no ill intentions for me at all.

“Thank you for helping Yoo Yoenha.” He says in his same monotone voice as if he is uninterested.

What? Since when does this dude become so human?

“Sure…” I succinctly answer his gratitude. “Glad to be of help,” I add.

Suddenly, interrupting my sweet time with Shin Jonghak is a girly voice I’d rather not hear. I will be honest, I am still bitter about the friendly hit, specifically, the one that is still hurting on my left shoulder.

“Jonghak,” Yoenha sweetly calls from the labyrinth’s exit while prancing on Jonghak’s side. She has a sweet smile evident in her being lovestruck. “Hey

“Instructor, can I get some first aid or something… My foot hurts…” I ask Kim Soohyuk while I point at my foot that my teammate Archer generously shares with me.

Kim Soohyuk grins, and I feel his malice immediately. “Suck it up. It will not be for long…”

I blankly gaze at him. I regret doing those crazy shenanigans from now on. But hey, what is a little hurt? I can wait for class dismissal like a normal student. There are no special treatments. Just like how Kim Soohyuk is saying back in the orientation— there is no ‘kind’ training here in Cube.

The various Cadets that follow us on record time look the worse for wear. I can ignore the main cast, but the others have it quite badly. Rachel’s team is especially banged up, well of course, except Rachel.

Rachel Elizabeth Lousie. One of the major characters of The Novel’s Extra. At the beginning of the novel, she doesn’t have much presence, but since the changes, I reckon that she will become more involved with the story so much earlier.

Heck, a Cube Cadet is dead because of these changes.

I feel stumped at the moment. These changes that keep on happening are causing a great lot of trouble. I must investigate its source. But with my current specs, I might accidentally stumble on a death flag instead. To quickly increase my strength, I can only train diligently.

There should be a safer way to do this, but I must earn Hajin’s trust first. With this same line of thought, I can also choose to recruit allies for my cause, but I lack the resources to do such a thing. If only it is that easy.

Hmmm… I still have no answers to how I can secure my survival. Three Djinns on the novel’s first confrontation, when in fact, it should be only one Djinn.

I guess it is only right for Hajin to be paranoid. I glance at Kim Hajin who is on Yoenha’s team. He is busily playing with his smartwatch. He must be studying some information or maybe playing with his cheats. I cannot tell.

Chae Nayun wakes up in the middle of the night, and her body is still in a lot of pain, but with the level of her mental strength, she easily endures such pain. There are no longer any burns on her body, and she can now move as freely as she wants.

Despite that, her body is still hurting on the cellular level. She must expel the demonic energy from her body. With a little bit of meditation, she quickly returns her body to a state of balance.

“Ugh…” She feels her head hurting as she recalls her battle with a particular Djinn. “That Djinn is stronger than I imagine.” No. Not stronger than she imagines, but is actually stronger than what she remembers. “No way…” She grits her teeth on self-blame. “Is it because of me?”

As a Regressor, and a sudden variable in time, creating ripples in the world, there is a slight possibility that Chae Nayun’s existence is responsible for creating multiple butterfly effects around the world.

“That is too much of an exaggeration,” She rejects her own theory. “But what if that is the case?” Still, she might just be in denial, and what she deems simply a theory might actually be the truth.

But what can she do?

Just like how she always tells herself, she can only move forward. It is not like she can return to the future. So what does she do? Try to recreate the future she knows, but then, what use is there to her regression?

Nayun has to owe her choices, and take responsibility.

Alas, the reality is crueler than anyone can bargain for. “Three Djinns?” She asks herself in doubt while she scrolls down the news recounting the Museum Terrorism. “I have to return to Cube immediately…” Fear strikes her being.

She must go back to Cube immediately, to protect her friends, to protect Hajin, and make things right.

Leaving the Hospital exclusive for the Chae Clan, Chae Nayun hastily sets off to Cube while still in her hospital pajamas. It is an emergency, so she can do as she likes. Informing her father of her well-being comes at a later time.

With lithe steps, she runs off the window and heads to Cube while referring to the map on her smartwatch.

Back in the day before regressing, she is the kind of person who has no sense of direction and has a tendency to get lost. Even now, that remains the truth. The only difference is when she is feeling a sense of crisis, her beast-like instincts activates to help her make the right decisions.

Using her instinct as a compass, she quickly returns to Cube. Interestingly, this method of finding her way back to Cube works just fine.

The problem is… the Portal Station won’t let Chae Nayun in. “It is the middle of the night… Are you crazy? Where is your identification? And what are you wearing? Is that a patient’s gown? Are you from the mental hospital?” The Guard swears at her harshly.

“…”

Chae Nayun is so dumb she becomes speechless at her own idiocy.
