After five minutes of back and forth with [Witch King] and [Cube AI] offering her comments on the fly, the talkative hat returns to being inanimate. From how it is suddenly cut off, I judge that its returning to being inanimate is in effect whether the hat wants it or not.

I really have nothing much to say about the hat. From the little conversation I share with her, I glean the thought processes of a rebellious teenager undergoing puberty. The hat’s choice words are very garish and she has a tendency to gain amusement from annoying its wearer.

Thankfully, I have the patience to match the hat.

When I choose to not use the hat, it recedes into shadowy tentacles and hides at the thick streak of dark hair in my head. I comb my bangs on the mirror only realizing now how unkempt they are. I have the black streak of hair on an unnoticeable angle trying my best to make myself look as mundane as possible.

Possessing [Witch King] is just a small episode of the day for me. I have so many other things to do. I busy myself in the Control Room. While most things are automated and [Cube AI] can do them like spreading the massive AI-generated articles about the Goblin, I can also contribute to the [Cube AI] by offering my own brainpower.

The [Cube AI] has a Central Processing Unit of its own, or its version of it, and from what I understand, its effects don’t pale in comparison to the computation power of the most complex CPU in the world— the human brain.

It is complicated science-y stuff, but clearly, the human brain has a potential that humanity cannot even begin to tap half of it. That is what [Cube AI] claims at least, or what the Great Sage has told her.

I sit comfortably on my chair, while I stare at the LCD screen almost telepathically controlling it. My brain with its intelligence stat can offer the juice the [Cube AI] needs to increase its effectiveness.

I received Hajin’s message that he is done with his Review video and is most likely to be gone from a school-related errand. It seems that he is going to have a press conference. He is not someone who is good at this kind of stuff, so I worry.

I am also the same. I can come up with dirty schemes like playing public opinion by spreading AI-generated news articles, but I also have no experience with this kind of thing. I send Hajin a good luck message and suggest to him to consult Yoenha and Rachel. These two should have the necessary know-how on how to do a press conference.

***

Hajin is scared. Who wouldn’t? Hyon admits to him that he would feel the same if it was him in his position. After that, Hyon proceeds to make fun of Hajin by saying ‘Sucks to be you, and not me,’ which speaks of Hyon’s true nature as being an asshole.

Thankfully, Hajin received proper coaching before he attended the press conference.

The venue is open-air and will be at night. The cool breeze touches Hajin’s cheeks as he exits from the bigger building’s backdoor, and arrives at the park adjacent to the building.

When Hajin enters the venue, he is greeted by flashing lights and the annoying murmur of the people. Waiting for Hajin is a pack of feral journalists. There is not much to be desired in exaggeration, but Hajin cannot mistake the gleam in the journalists’ eyes who chaotically want to get a word from him.

“Kim Hajin! Is it true you are in leagues of the Goblin?”

“The vigilante recently on the loose, the Goblin, is his technology yours?”

“Kim Hajin, please answer the question. What does your review entail?”

Understandably, the reason for the hubbub is because of the recently too-accurate Review Video Hajin has made, and should be at Hajin Page now. Hajin feels small at the imposing journalists hurling him a steady amount of questions.

The only source of comfort that Hajin can draw from is the presence of the Veritas Class Instructor Kimm Soohyuk who with an imposing shout bars the journalists. “Please fall back! Anyone who does not maintain the order will not get to ask any questions at all.

The once chaotic journalists return to their seats with civility. The contrast stands a little bit too funny for Hajin. If Hajin is a proper chaebol or a legitimate mogul, his influence should be enough to cow the too-eager journalists. Hajin is not at that level, and he doesn’t see himself reaching that level in the future either.

From Nayun’s memories that he has inherited, Kim Hajin did not become a business mogul. He did become filthy fucking rich though.

Hajin sits on the chair with a long rectangular table separating him from the journalists. Hajin observes the venue. Several instructors patrol the surroundings with increased security in the Cube’s garden with severity.

From what Hajin hears from Hyon arriving at the venue, a couple of Djinns have already been caught trying to infiltrate the press conference. Hajin’s current identity is a rising genius inventor who is responsible for damning the Djinns with a single work.

Surely, the Djinns won’t be able to let him go. The danger to Hajin’s life has led to Cube dedicating its resources to him. In response to the rising demand of Hajin to answer the public with his heroic deeds, he must now attend this press conference.

Answering the public is too heavy of a phrase. The government just wants to assure its populace that Korea and humanity remain standing strong despite the series of incidents lately.

Hajin checks up on his mic in front of him through [Observation and Reading]. His gift has come as a very convenient tool for a mic check. If it is before, he would have to tap it and voice some mic check while a seemingly natural move, just by the sight of everyone looking at him do it makes him curl.

He doesn’t show it much, but Hajin is a very introverted person… someone who tends to keep his thoughts to his own.

An abrupt frown races on Hajin’s forehead as he uses [Observation and Reading] on the mic.

[Microphone— this is an item used to amplify voices.]

The mic is quite normal. The other set of texts on Hajin’s retina is the real problem.

[Bomb— hiding inside the microphone. Enough to incinerate humans from twelve twelve-meter radii.]

“BOMB!” Hajin shouts, his voice in a panic, but not his mind. He analyzes the best course of action. Inside him, he wants to run, and he finds no fault in this thinking.

However, the journalists present are composed mostly of civilian characters. They will die if Hajin doesn’t do anything.

Hajin kicks the microphone from under the table with precision and strength that it shatters the table meeting the exact part where the mic should be connected. The force his kick generates is masterfully calculated. Accurate is an understatement.

The microphone is sent flying into the air, but not high enough. Hajin summons his Desert Eagle hiding from his stigma. With a thought, Hajin uses two streaks of stigma to duplicate his Desert Eagle. Hajin shoots at the ascending equipment just enough to make it bounce higher and higher into the air.

Using his [Master Sharpshooter] Gift and the [Bullet Time] Ability, Hajin is able to shoot his gun recklessly. In the blink of an eye, an inferno spreads crackling into the air. The cold night sky is met with the sudden heat and bright orange-red brilliance of flames causing a spectacle like no other.

Hajin’s mind works at great speed thinking about who could have been responsible for the assassination attempt. It doesn’t take him long to realize that only the Djinns could have wanted that.

He watches the terrified faces of the journalists. The instructors are similarly awestruck. This cannot be. Hajin just knows. Humanity cannot falter right at this moment. Isn’t Hajin’s press conference meant to give people confidence?

Hajin starts thinking on his feet, and a bright idea flashes in his head.

As the flames above the open park of Cube slowly recede until the stars above increasingly reveal themselves, Hajin carefully times his throw. From under his belt, an [Under Cube] version of Batman’s utility belt, Hajin hurls the Goblin’s calling card in the air.

At first, he wants to throw as many as possible to increase the drama, but his actions might be caught by the instructors given how difficult it is to do just that. Thus, he compromises on a single calling card.

According to Yoenha, every gesture in a press conference is meant to express a meaning. Hajin raises one hand, his Desert Eagle already back in his stigma storage. The action of him raising his hand catches the journalists’ and instructors’ attention.

They see Hajin reaching for the air, something fluttering with the orange embers of the explosion. Hajin reaches to it and reads out. “The Goblin…” He mutters, leaving the others for interpretation.

Kim Soohyuk takes on the crowd. “It looks like we have to postpone…”

Hajin interrupts Soohyuk’s words. “No, we don’t.” He authoritatively asserts to the crowd, his eyes landing on the only camera that is broadcasting the press conference around the world.

One of Rachel’s tips on a successful Press Conference is that for one to establish a presence, one must know how to make eye contact. Hajin is making perfect eye contact with the camera lenses.

“This is the Goblin’s calling card.” Hajin flashes the calling card for everyone to see.

Emboldened words with a hint of gold read ‘Goblin of Greed’, and while it is not confirmed whether this is really authentic as the villain didn’t even show himself, everyone is compelled to believe that it has to be the Goblin’s work.

“For an aspiring super criminal, I thought you knew better.” Hajin’s eyes remain on the camera lenses as if he is talking with the Goblin himself who should be watching the broadcast from another part of the world. “If you want a piece of me, then come and get me. I will face you off sincerely. Or are you afraid? I saw through your technology with one glance, and now you want to get rid of me. Funny.”

Hajin is not really the verbal kind of guy. He is one who believes monologues are pure nonsense which makes the villains’ in comics and stories their greatest weakness. The only reason Hajin is able to pull off the lines out of his mouth without cringing must be because Hyon is rubbing off too much from him.

“I am not afraid of you.” Hajin finishes the press conference with that one-liner as he exits off without even entertaining the Journalists with their questions. Rather than a press conference, it has become a fight between the rising Gunner Hero and the infamous rookie villain Goblin.
