In March, a massive wildfire erupted in the sect where Bai Hui resides. It originated from another cultivator’s abode, who happened to be away at the time of the incident. By the time people noticed the fire, it was too late. The spiritual flames had spread across the mountain, turning the entire landscape into shades of fiery red.

This was the first time Bai Luo Luo witnessed a wildfire of this magnitude. Standing beside Bai Hui, he felt the wind carrying black dust, settling on his face and shoulders. Bai Luo Luo stared at the widespread flames, his emerald eyes reflecting a bright orange hue, a subtle excitement gleaming in his expression.

Bai Hui’s voice brought Bai Luo Luo back to reality, calling his name, “Luo Luo.”

Startled, Bai Luo Luo responded, “Bai Hui?”

“We should go back,” Bai Hui suggested.

Reluctantly, Bai Luo Luo nodded, his eyes still fixed on the mesmerizing blaze. Bai Hui knew Bai Luo Luo had a fascination with fire, specifically the rich demonic energy within. Creatures, especially spirits, were naturally drawn to power, making it a common occurrence. However, without guidance, they could easily stray towards malevolence, devouring flesh and transforming into demons.

For dinner that night, Bai Luo Luo prepared the meal himself. Recently, he had started learning how to cook, with Bai Hui providing him numerous secret recipes.

The taste of spiritual plants and beasts surpassed ordinary ingredients, even with the simplest cooking methods, resulting in delicious flavors. As Bai Luo Luo ate, he seemed a bit absent-minded, lost in thought. Bai Hui noticed and asked, “What are you thinking about?”

Bai Luo Luo’s mind was still immersed in the endless sea of flames. He replied, “When will the fire be extinguished?”

Bai Hui responded, “It won’t go out; we have to wait until everything is burned down.”

Surprised, Bai Luo Luo asked, “It won’t go out?”

Bai Hui affirmed, “No.”

While smaller spiritual fires could be extinguished using techniques, controlling such a massive wildfire was challenging. Attempting to put it out might cost more spiritual stones than the ones consumed by the fire.

“Okay,” Bai Luo Luo said, understanding the situation.

That night, there was a torrential rainstorm, a natural response to the spiritual disturbance caused by the wildfire. Thunder roared outside, and as a supernatural being, Bai Luo Luo was afraid of this pure display of natural power. He huddled in Bai Hui’s embrace, trembling.

Bai Hui held him, patting his back to soothe his emotions. Bai Luo Luo, with his chin on Bai Hui’s shoulder, whispered, “Bai Hui, the thunder is so scary.”

“Don’t worry, I’m here,” Bai Hui reassured him.

“It feels like the sky is going to shatter,” Bai Luo Luo commented.

Hearing this, Bai Hui’s expression subtly changed. He said, “It’s okay; go to sleep.” He cast a calming spell on Bai Luo Luo, watching him fall into a restful slumber.

Bai Luo Luo’s sleep was restless, filled with dreams of something particularly frightening. He awoke covered in cold sweat, unable to recall any details from the dream. Trembling, he opened his eyes and realized Bai Hui wasn’t beside him. Instead, Bai Hui stood by the window, gazing outside.

At this moment, the first light of dawn appeared, and the terrifying thunder gradually faded away. Bai Luo Luo distinctly felt a peculiar energy, one he had never experienced before.

Bai Hui noticed Bai Luo Luo waking up. Without turning around, he called Bai Luo Luo’s name, “Luo Luo.”

Getting up from the bed, Bai Luo Luo rubbed his eyes and walked to Bai Hui’s side. He mumbled, “Bai Hui, what’s going on? Did something happen?” However, when he reached the window and looked outside, he was stunned by the scene in the sky.

On the horizon, a dense purple light emerged, as if it had life, continuously churning in the sky. Its brilliance even overshadowed the just-rising sun.

“What is this—” Bai Luo Luo stared at this strange sight, his eyes wide.

The expected had finally arrived, and Bai Hui remained remarkably calm. He explained, “There are four realms in total: the human realm, the demon realm, the cultivation realm, and the immortal realm. Only creatures from the immortal and demon realms cannot enter other realms, as it would disrupt the balance of the celestial order.”

Bai Luo Luo had a rough idea of what Bai Hui was going to say. He exclaimed, “That purple light—”

Bai Hui confirmed, “Yes, the continuous thunder last night wasn’t just thunder. It was the Demon Emperor opening a passage between the cultivation realm and the demon realm.”

Bai Luo Luo couldn’t believe it. “Can monsters from the demon realm come through this passage?”

Bai Hui nodded.

Bai Luo Luo seemed astonished, not knowing what to say, his mouth slightly agape.

Bai Hui continued, “This event was foreseen.”

Whether it was the falling stars or the meteorites, they were all signs of misfortune. However, at that time, no one could have imagined that the signs of misfortune would foretell the catastrophe of human extinction.

Bai Hui was well aware that once the passage to the demon realm opened, even small demons entering the human realm would be a headache for everyone. He reached out and held Bai Luo Luo’s hand, asking in a gentle tone, “Luo Luo, are you scared?”

Bai Luo Luo honestly nodded, then shook his head. He said, “I am scared, but when I think of Bai Hui being with me, I don’t feel as scared.”

A smile appeared in Bai Hui’s eyes as he bent down and gave Bai Luo Luo a comforting kiss.

Suddenly, the passage to the demon realm opened. While others might have been surprised, it was within Bai Hui’s expectations. He even knew when this calamity would end. Unfortunately, by then, it would be too late, and both the human and cultivation realms would suffer greatly. Humanity was on the brink of extinction.

The sect’s bells began to ring.

One after another, the continuous tolling sank everyone’s hearts. Ninety-nine tolls signaled the disaster of the sect.

The sect leader quickly sent a message to Bai Hui, summoning him for a discussion. Watching Bai Hui leave, Bai Luo Luo stood by the window, the dense purple light visible when he turned his head.

Everyone in the sect wore solemn expressions, but Bai Hui remained indifferent, seeming uninterested in speaking.

Finally, the sect leader asked if he had any thoughts on the matter. Bai Hui uttered a single sentence, “We are not their opponents.”

This statement caused a commotion in the room.

Bai Hui continued, “We can only seek help from the immortal realm; otherwise, this matter is unsolvable.”

The sect leader questioned, “How do we seek help from the immortal realm?”

Bai Hui responded coldly, “Naturally, by offering the finest blood and flesh.”

The sect leader frowned, asking, “What does that mean?”

Bai Hui explained, “Leave this matter to me.”

The sect leader hesitated, “What if the immortal realm doesn’t respond… won’t it be losing both the wife and the soldiers?”

Bai Hui, however, was confident, “They will come.”

As for what constituted the finest blood and flesh and how it should be offered to the immortals, Bai Hui did not elaborate. After a long discussion, the sect reached the conclusion to prepare for battle. Bai Hui didn’t stay for the entire discussion and left midway.

No one dared to stop him this time.

After the appearance of the purple light, all the animals seemed extremely restless.

Bai Luo Luo went to the garden and found that almost all the spirits who were previously close to him were gone, leaving only the ginseng doll that had first become a spirit.

“Luo Luo, I’m leaving,” the ginseng doll said, planning to bid farewell to Bai Luo Luo.

“Where are you going?” Bai Luo Luo asked.

The ginseng doll pointed to the dense purple light in the sky and said, “I’m going there.”

Bai Luo Luo questioned, “Why do you want to go there?”

The ginseng doll said, “Because there are many powers I like.”

The most significant difference between spirits and demons lies in the source of their power. Spirits absorb the essence of the sun and moon, while demons almost exclusively devour blood and flesh.

Bai Luo Luo expressed concern, “But… won’t it be very dangerous there?”

As they spoke, birds gathered in the sky. They circled above before flocking in the direction of the purple light. It was evident that the power emanating from the purple light had a tremendous attraction for both animals and plants.

The ginseng doll reassured, “It’s okay; they’ve all gone. Luo Luo, aren’t you going?”

Bai Luo Luo shook his head. Although he also felt the compelling aura of the purple light, he had Bai Hui, and that was where he wanted to be.

The ginseng doll said, “Then I can only say goodbye, Luo Luo.”

This was probably their last meeting. Bai Luo Luo touched his little braid, saying, “Goodbye, have a safe journey.”

The ginseng doll rubbed against Bai Luo Luo’s fingertips and disappeared into the ground.

The courtyard suddenly became quiet, not even the sound of insects chirping. Bai Luo Luo looked up at the sky, feeling unexpectedly lonely for a brief moment.

But this feeling of loneliness was fleeting, overshadowed by the return of Bai Hui.

“Bai Hui, they’ve all left,” Bai Luo Luo said, sitting in the pavilion, facing Bai Hui.

Bai Hui replied, “I know. Does Luo Luo want to go too?”

Bai Luo Luo shook his head, his eyes forming an adorable curve. He said, “I can’t bear to leave Bai Hui. I won’t go anywhere without you.”

Bai Hui kissed him.

The two embraced each other under the circling birds, with the impending disaster on the horizon.

“Bai Hui, hold me,” Bai Luo Luo said to Bai Hui.

Bai Hui was somewhat surprised. Bai Luo Luo was usually quite shy about such matters, and he didn’t expect him to bring it up himself today. He asked, “What’s wrong? Is Luo Luo unhappy?”

Bai Luo Luo shook his head, and with a cute arc in his eyes, he said, “I’m not unhappy. With Bai Hui by my side… I’m very happy.”

Bai Hui embraced him.

“Just that I’m scared,” Bai Luo Luo said. “I don’t want to be left alone.”

Bai Hui said, “Okay, no matter where we go, I’ll always take you with me.”

In the bamboo chair within the pavilion, the two entwined.

Perhaps influenced by the purple light, chaos engulfed the human realm completely. The flames of war spread across the entire continent, sparing not even the smallest nations in the corners.

Fearing that Bai Luo Luo might be bored, Bai Hui gave him a mirror that could show various scenes from the human realm.

During his leisure in cultivation, Bai Luo Luo would look at the scenes in the mirror. Once again, he saw Xiao Lu, but now, she had become a powerful demon. Her features were enchanting, and she had taken countless lives, completely unrelated to the lively and talkative Xiao Lu he remembered.

“She has killed many people,” Bai Hui said, “and plans to sacrifice a hundred boys and girls to cultivate her evil technique.”

Bai Luo Luo asked, “Will she succeed?”

Bai Hui replied, “No.”

Indeed, as Bai Hui said, a month later, Bai Luo Luo witnessed the death of Xiao Lu.

She was killed by a cultivator from the cultivation realm, likely sent specifically to maintain order. Xiao Lu was no match for him.

Bai Luo Luo watched as Xiao Lu’s core was shattered by a single sword, completely and irrevocably dead.

Unlike humans, for spirits, the core was the life gate. If the core was damaged, there was no cure.

When Xiao Lu died, her eyes were still open, seemingly unable to accept that her end was like this. She probably had many unfulfilled ambitions and many things she still wanted to do.

For the first time, Bai Luo Luo touched the mirror’s surface with his fingertips. Through the mirror, he touched Xiao Lu’s face. His fingertips could only feel the bone-chilling cold through the mirror.

Bai Hui watched from the side and asked, “Reluctant?”

Bai Luo Luo shook his head. There was nothing to feel reluctant about. Xiao Lu had done too many wrongs, and she was continuing down that path. If someone saved her, who would save the hundred children to be sacrificed?

Bai Luo Luo said, “I’m just afraid.”

Bai Hui asked, “Afraid of what?”

Bai Luo Luo turned to look at Bai Hui, and for the first time, Bai Hui saw a hint of sorrow in his carefree expression. Bai Luo Luo said, “I’m afraid you’ll leave me like Xiao Lu.”

Despite Bai Hui making many promises, he couldn’t reassure Bai Luo Luo. Bai Hui sighed, saying, “Luo Luo, I just need you to trust me this time.”

Bai Luo Luo looked back at the mirror. In the mirror, Xiao Lu had returned to her original form, but her leaves were no longer the lush green from the garden. They had turned into a glaring red, resembling flames that could burn everything.

The cultivator used a spell to burn away Little Green’s original form, leaving only a pile of black ashes.

“Do you need to go to the human realm, Bai Hui?” With increasing turmoil in the human realm and tight manpower, Bai Luo Luo worriedly looked at Bai Hui.

“No need,” Bai Hui replied. “I won’t go to the human realm.”

Soon, Bai Luo Luo understood why Bai Hui chose not to go to the human realm. Large numbers of demons and monsters had also appeared in the cultivation realm. These creatures were more ferocious than the ones in the human realm, making the human monsters seem like appetizers.

Bai Hui had to stay and guard the sect, ensuring the safety of the disciples within.

The purple light on the horizon grew denser, indicating that the entrance to the demon realm and the cultivation realm was widening.

There were disagreements among the sect’s leaders. Some argued for sending reinforcements to the front lines, while others were reluctant to risk the lives of sect disciples.

Bai Hui never argued. He listened to what others said with a cold, indifferent expression, lacking any interest.

“Bai Hui, what’s your opinion?” The sect leader, tired of their bickering, asked Bai Hui directly. In the cultivation realm, strength dictated respect, and no one dared to question Bai Hui’s strength.

“It’s the same either way,” Bai Hui said. He wouldn’t have come if the sect leader hadn’t insisted, as he believed both approaches were essentially the same.

The sect leader frowned, asking, “What do you mean?”

“Of course, sending people will probably end it sooner,” Bai Hui said, “because it gives me more time to prepare.”

“Prepare for what?” The sect leader inquired.

“End everything,” Bai Hui said, stopping there. Whatever came next, he refused to disclose.

“Bai Hui, if you have a plan, tell us,” others said. “What if we can help? We might be of assistance.”

Bai Hui replied, “There’s nothing to help with; I just need two more things.” One of them could only be obtained when the passage between the demon realm and the cultivation realm reached its maximum size; it was still too early for that.

If it were anyone else, the sect leader would probably have thought this person was playing games. But it was Bai Hui, so the sect leader sighed and said, “If there’s anything you need, just say it.”

Bai Hui nodded.

In the end, the outcome of the discussion favored those advocating for a full-scale war. Under the circumstances, preserving strength was seen as courting destruction.

After the meeting, Bai Hui returned to his cave.

Entering the room, he saw a table filled with delicious dishes.

Bai Luo Luo, wearing an apron, hummed a tune while placing the last dish on the table. He looked at Bai Hui with an expectant smile, saying, “Bai Hui, I’ve thoroughly studied the recipes you gave me a few days ago. I made a few dishes for you to taste.”

“Okay,” Bai Hui said.

He sat down, picked up his chopsticks, and took a bite.

Bai Luo Luo eagerly watched him, asking, “Is it good?”

Looking at Bai Luo Luo, Bai Hui’s eyes seemed to have a misty glow. Bai Luo Luo was startled, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was just his own misconception. After all, why would Bai Hui shed tears over a simple meal?

“I feel like I’ve waited for a long time,” Bai Hui said, uttering words that Bai Luo Luo couldn’t quite comprehend. He continued, “I thought I wouldn’t be able to wait.”

Bai Luo Luo looked puzzled and asked, “Huh? What do you mean?”

Bai Hui smiled gently and said, “Nothing, just praising your cooking. It’s delicious.”

Although Bai Hui usually had little interest in eating, that day he finished all the dishes Bai Luo Luo made. Seeing him eat so much, Bai Luo Luo expressed concern, saying, “Take it easy; don’t overeat…”

Bai Hui laughed, “Have you ever seen a cultivator eat himself to death?”

Bai Luo Luo replied, “That’s because they don’t eat regular meals.”

Taking another sip of soup, Bai Hui asked, “This soup tastes good. What is it made of?”

Blushing, Bai Luo Luo looked at Bai Hui.

Bai Hui inquired, “What is it?”

Bai Luo Luo hesitated, “Um, it’s that… my flower.”

Bai Hui, still holding his soup, swallowed hard. Bai Luo Luo continued, “Your recipe included a dish called ‘Jade Bamboo Radish Flower Soup,’ but we don’t have any radishes in the yard…”

Bai Hui, resigned, said, “Don’t you have them in your flowerpot?”

Bai Luo Luo, with a shocked expression, said, “Bai Hui, I didn’t expect you to be like this. They say a tiger wouldn’t eat its cubs, yet here you are not sparing your own son’s… thing.”

Bai Hui had no words.

Bai Luo Luo said, “You’re too much of a beast.”

Bai Hui could only find a random excuse; he said, “I’m just worried that you might feel uncomfortable picking the flowers.”

Bai Luo Luo responded with an “Oh,” then said somewhat shyly, “Actually, it’s not a big deal. Plucking the flowers makes me feel quite good.”

Bai Hui fell silent.

Bai Luo Luo said, “Drink the soup. Didn’t you just praise the taste?”

The soup did taste good, and it looked appealing, but thinking about what was in it, Bai Hui felt conflicted.

Complicated feelings made him unsure if he should continue drinking.

Seeing Bai Hui’s confusion, Bai Luo Luo frowned and said, “So, you still despise me? I even washed my flowers several times before boiling them.”

Bai Hui had nothing to say. Faced with Bai Luo Luo’s intense gaze, he could only grit his teeth, refill his bowl, and with a complex state of mind, finished the soup.

Bai Luo Luo was very satisfied, saying, “Now you truly love me.”

Bai Hui thought, tonight I’ll make you understand what real love is.

Eating Bai Luo Luo’s radish flowers during the day and his radish root at night, Bai Hui even threatened Bai Luo Luo, saying the radish root looked delicious and he might as well try it.

Bai Luo Luo, frightened, pleaded with him not to.

Bai Hui said, “Didn’t you enjoy cooking the flowers?”

Bai Luo Luo hurriedly said, “That was a lie; those weren’t my flowers.”

Bai Hui asked, “Whose were they?”

Bai Luo Luo explained, “(⊙v⊙) Xian Tong bought them today.”

Bai Hui sighed.

Muttering, Bai Luo Luo said, “I wanted to use my own flowers, but they haven’t bloomed yet.”

Bai Hui took a bite, leaving an imprint on Bai Luo Luo’s cheek.

Bai Luo Luo, still feeling wronged, said, “My flowers are much tastier, sweet and delightful…”

Bai Hui asked, “Have you ever eaten it yourself?”

Bai Luo Luo replied, “(⊙v⊙) No.”

Bai Hui didn’t believe Bai Luo Luo’s words; the child’s ears turned red when he lied.

Bai Hui thought, forget it; it’s better not to continue dwelling on this issue with Bai Luo Luo. Otherwise, he might discover even more horrifying things. Besides, there was this lively radish lying in front of him, and it wouldn’t be right not to savor it properly.

In the end, Bai Luo Luo was covered in bite marks, crying and sobbing.

Bai Hui finished his favorite dish without leaving a trace. When he hugged Bai Luo Luo to sleep, Bai Luo Luo seemed exhausted and almost fainted, while Bai Hui had a satisfied expression.

Author’s note: Bai Luo Luo: Today, I made radish stewed beef for you.
Bai Hui: …Which part of yourself did you use?
Bai Luo Luo: I used our son.
Bai Hui: …………
