The sect dispatched a thousand disciples to support the front lines. Everyone anticipated a long and arduous battle, but no one had imagined it would be so cruel right from the start.

Bai Luo Luo, observing through the mirror, witnessed the opened demonic passage and a horde of demons flooding towards the cultivation realm. Even though the passage was not fully open, the influx mainly comprised low-level demons, causing significant trouble.

The most powerful elders of the cultivation realm had ascended to the immortal realm centuries ago, leaving a void in the current strength of cultivators. Seizing the opportunity, powerful demons forcefully opened the
passage, attempting to conquer the cultivation realm.

Aware of the inevitable outcome, Bai Hui remained composed, his face unmoved by the brutal scenes. It was as if he watched an inconsequential silent film, his expression showing no softening.

Initially frightened by the spectacle, Bai Luo Luo saw cultivators battling demons through the mirror. Armed with spiritual tools and spells, they effortlessly killed low-level demons. However, the demons kept pouring in like
water into a breached ship, an endless tide with no apparent end.

Killing one demon resulted in two more, and the cycle continued. The endless flow turned the sky and earth into a gruesome red, as blood spilled like a river.

As the cultivators weakened, the demons left small wounds that accumulated, gradually draining their vitality. Bai Luo Luo, witnessing the harsh combat, expressed concern and asked Bai Hui, “Can we win, Bai Hui?”

Bai Hui calmly replied, “Certainly.” His tone was so composed, as if he had already foreseen the grim outcome of this catastrophe.

Worried, Bai Luo Luo touched the mirror, sensing the pungent scent of blood. He said, “Then I also feel… we can win.”

Bai Hui smiled, removing the lingering energy from the mirror, making the scene vanish before them.

Even though the vision disappeared, the inevitable continued. Soon, news reached the sect that the frontline city, Chuyue, had fallen. All 3,600 cultivators in the city perished at the mouths of demons, not a single one
survived.

If anyone harbored unrealistic fantasies about the battle before, this news hit them like a slap in the face, jolting them awake.

Within the cultivation realm, fear spread, and the atmosphere grew tense. Influenced by the tension, Bai Luo Luo, taking it seriously, told Bai Hui that he wanted to become a great demon.

Bai Hui, patting Bai Luo Luo’s head, heard the words with a hint of melancholy in his expression. He said, “Why must you become a great demon? Let me protect you for a lifetime.”

Ignoring him, Bai Luo Luo continued watering the newly planted spirit grass and uttered, “But I would also worry about Bai Hui getting hurt.”

Bai Hui asked, “If you had to choose between me and becoming a great demon, what would you choose?”

Bai Luo Luo didn’t hesitate, “Of course, I would choose Bai Hui. Without you, becoming a great demon would serve no purpose.”

Bai Hui sighed lightly and replied, “Alright.” Although their sect was far from the frontline, the relentless advance of demons left no room for relaxation. The sect leaders, together with leaders from other sects, had multiple discussions but failed to find a practical solution. With no cultivator capable of sealing the demonic passage, the invasion seemed unstoppable. The sheer number of low-level demons alone posed a threat, not to mention the
anticipated arrival of high-level demons.

If the sect leader’s head had real hair, it would probably have started falling out these past few days. As the highest-cultivated individual in thesect, Bai Hui was naturally consulted for his opinion. However, he remained
indifferent, showing a somewhat cold attitude and refraining from offering any suggestions, with no intention to discuss the matter further.

Due to this, rumors started circulating within the sect, claiming that Bai Hui was cold-hearted and indifferent, disregarding the life and death of thesect. Bai Hui paid no mind to these rumors because, from a certain perspective, they weren’t entirely wrong. He indeed cared only about Bai Luo Luo. However, Bai Luo Luo couldn’t stand Bai Hui being slandered.

While Bai Luo Luo was alone in the marketplace buying things, he overheard someone talking like that and became infuriated. Confronting the person, the individual, thinking Bai Luo Luo was an easy target, used more insulting words, even suggesting that Bai Luo Luo was Bai Hui’s lover, hence defending him.

Though not understanding the term “lover,” Bai Luo Luo guessed it wasn’t a good word. He earnestly told the person, “Stop using dirty words. If you insult Bai Hui again, I’ll have to hit you.” The person laughed, dismissing Bai Luo Luo’s threat and continued with a string of insults.

Frowning, Bai Luo Luo threw a punch, marking his first physical altercation with someone other than Bai Hui. It left a deep impression on those who witnessed it. No one expected the seemingly harmless radish spirit to be so
violent.

Bai Luo Luo effortlessly knocked the person down, who, now beneath Bai Luo Luo’s foot, begged for mercy. His face, previously filled with arrogance, was now swollen, and several teeth were missing.

Grabbing the person’s hair, Bai Luo Luo coldly asked, “Are you still going to insult Bai Hui?” The person mumbled incoherently, saying, “No… no more insults…”

Bai Luo Luo said, “It’s not too late to admit your mistake, but your insults earlier were too much. I need to teach you a lesson.” Unexpectedly, Bai Luo Luo waved his hand, and the person felt a cool sensation on his head—Bai Luo Luo had shaved off all his hair.

The person looked bewildered. Bai Luo Luo, satisfied with his actions, patted his hands, turned, and walked away. Afraid that Bai Hui might find out, Bai Luo Luo wanted to avoid questions about the misdeed.

Relieved, the person thought, “It’s just hair, and I can use a spell to make it grow back.” However, upon recovery, he cast the spell, only to realize his scalp remained completely bald. It was then he understood the true meaning of the lesson.

After beating someone up, Bai Luo Luo hurried back home, pretending to water his plants in the garden. When Bai Hui returned slightly later than usual, he opened with, “What mischief have you been up to?”

Bai Luo Luo put on his usual innocent (⊙v⊙) expression and said, “Nothing at all.”

Bai Hui remarked, “Nothing? Then why is your radish tassel sticking out?”

Bai Luo Luo: “…”
He quickly retracted the radish tassel that involuntarily popped out due to nervousness, lowered his head, and admitted, “I did something bad…”

Bai Hui asked, “What bad thing?”

Bai Luo Luo said, “I hit someone.”

Bai Hui asked, “Dead?”

Bai Luo Luo replied, “No, just injured.” He spoke with a guilty expression, thinking Bai Hui would surely scold him.

Unexpectedly, Bai Hui said, “Is that all?”

Bai Luo Luo: “…Just that.” It wasn’t the reaction he had imagined.

Bai Hui raised an eyebrow, “What kind of bad thing is this?” Even if Bai Luo Luo had killed someone, Bai Hui wouldn’t find it excessive. If Bai Luo Luo, with his gentle nature, was driven to the point of using force, how
despicable must the person have been?

Bai Luo Luo said, “…Don’t you want to ask why I hit him?”

Bai Hui replied, “What’s there to ask? If you hit him, he deserved it. Let’s not talk about this. LuoLuo, come here, I have something for you.”

And so, the matter ended before Bai Luo Luo could fully comprehend it. Bai Luo Luo put down the watering can and obediently went to Bai Hui.

Bai Hui took out a small paper package from his pocket and handed it to Bai Luo Luo. Opening it, Bai Luo Luo found some small black particles inside, resembling seeds.

Bai Luo Luo asked, “What’s this?”

Bai Hui said, “Something tasty. Come, let me teach you how to eat it.” And then, a radish and an immortal began snacking on melon seeds by the garden.

Bai Luo Luo initially struggled with eating them, getting a lot of shells in his mouth. However, he quickly mastered the technique, and his speed improved.

“Crack, crack, crack.” Bai Luo Luo, engrossed in eating, looked a bit absent-minded, saying, “I don’t know why, but this sound feels like I’ve heard it somewhere before…”

Bai Hui’s expression was somewhat complicated. He patted Bai Luo Luo’s shoulder and said something cryptic, “LuoLuo, you’ve been through a lot.”

Bai Luo Luo, confused, wondered what he had done to make Bai Hui say he had been through a lot.

These melon seeds were something Bai Hui had painstakingly found. Surprisingly, amidst the imminent crisis, he still had the leisure to search for melon seeds. Of course, Bai Hui was well aware that some things couldn’t be
rushed. Until a certain number of lives were lost, even if he knew a way, he couldn’t seal the entrance. He had to attract the attention of the heavenly path to stop this catastrophe.

Since that day, Bai Luo Luo and Bai Hui had a new leisure activity—chatting while snacking on melon seeds. There were salted ones, plain ones, and even some that Bai Luo Luo roasted with sugar. Initially skeptical of this method, Bai Hui was surprised to find that the roasted seeds tasted quite good. He even specially gave a packet to the sect leader.

Upon receiving Bai Hui’s melon seeds, the sect leader’s face turned as dark as ink. He commented, “Bai Hui, you’re really enjoying yourself.” With disciples suffering heavy casualties, watching those he personally trained
fall on the frontline, it was heart-wrenching. Since becoming an immortal, Bai Hui hadn’t taken on any disciples, sparing himself from this painful experience.

Bai Hui, nonchalant, said, “If urgency could solve the problem, this calamity would have been averted long ago.”

The sect leader asked, “Aren’t you afraid that the frontline won’t resist the demons, the sect will fall, and your radish will also suffer?”
Anyone even remotely familiar with Bai Hui knew that the radish named Bai Luo Luo was his untouchable taboo.

Bai Hui said, “I’m scared, scared to death.”

The sect leader raised an eyebrow.

Bai Hui continued, “So, I’m waiting.”

The sect leader asked, “Waiting for what?”

Bai Hui replied, “Waiting for the right moment to end all of this.”

The sect leader wanted to inquire further about this “right moment,” but Bai Hui refused to elaborate, just shaking his head in silence.

Witnessing this, the sect leader sighed, “I only hope your method truly works.”

When the portal first appeared, the purple hue in the sky resembled a narrow ribbon. Over time, the purple passage widened, and now, from a distance, it seemed as if a purple sun would rise from there.

Almost all animals in the cultivation world migrated toward the purple aura, with many gaining sentience halfway. However, influenced by the purple aura, these creatures turned hostile and bloodthirsty after gaining sentience,
showing a strong tendency to attack humans.

These once-peaceful beings from the cultivation world had inadvertently become allies of the demonic realm.

If not for Bai Hui, Bai Luo Luo might have gone as well, as only creatures like him, inherently magical, could understand how irresistible that aura was.

However, Bai Luo Luo resisted his instincts and chose to stay in the abode belonging to him and Bai Hui.

As the war intensified, not only were disciples sent to the front lines, but also some high-ranking elders had to don armor and join the battle.

One day, Bai Hui suddenly said to Bai Luo Luo, “LuoLuo, I might have to go to the front lines.”

Bai Luo Luo, though expecting this day to come, was visibly bewildered. Even when Bai Hui spoke those words, he struggled to accept the reality.

He asked, “Why all of a sudden…”

Bai Hui explained, “I volunteered. The sect needs someone to stay behind, so the sect leader didn’t make any demands. But the time has come, and I can’t miss it.”

Bai Luo Luo softly questioned, “How long will you be gone? Can I accompany you?”

Bai Hui embraced Bai Luo Luo tightly, as if trying to meld him into his own body, and said, “LuoLuo, I dare not take you with me. If I take you, I won’t be able to bring you back.”

Bai Luo Luo, thinking it was because of his insufficient strength that might hinder Bai Hui, urgently said, “I’m quite strong now; many people can’t beat me.”

Bai Hui said, “I know you’re strong. It’s not about you getting hurt; it’s about…” He hesitated, then explained, “It’s about worrying that you might be affected by demonic energy, lose your sanity.” Bai Luo Luo, being a radish spirit, could potentially be influenced if he got too close to the demonic realm’s portal and the strong demonic energy it emitted.

Bai Luo Luo mumbled, wanting to persuade Bai Hui, but seeing Bai Hui’s determined expression, he understood that Bai Hui would never agree to him going.

Bai Luo Luo felt dejected, so low-spirited that he didn’t want to speak.

Bai Hui said, “LuoLuo, wait for me to come back.”

Bai Luo Luo whispered, “What if you don’t come back? What should I
do?”

Bai Hui tightly held Bai Luo Luo’s hand, saying, “How could I not come back?” He couldn’t bear to leave Bai Luo Luo alone.

No one understood better than Bai Hui the importance of this journey. It could be said that the last hope to save the entire cultivation world rested solely on Bai Hui’s shoulders.

Yet, according to the original course of events, Bai Luo Luo took up this heavy responsibility.

This tender and seemingly fragile radish willingly shouldered this burden for the sake of a promise. He lived a tough life, lonely until death, never having someone by his side.

But Bai Hui couldn’t bear it. He couldn’t bear to see his radish suffer, enduring so much hardship. He wanted to protect him throughout his life, ensuring a peaceful and joyful existence, free from worries, like a carefree
child.

Bai Hui made a promise to Bai Luo Luo, saying he would definitely come back.

Bai Luo Luo couldn’t bear to part with Bai Hui. On the night of their separation, he couldn’t help but cry again. He cried so much that radish tassels sprouted from the top of his head, his body twitching uncontrollably,
as if trying to shed a lifetime of tears.

Bai Hui, feeling both heartache and helplessness, could only hold him, patting his slender back, and kissing his tear-stained eyes.

Tears were also mixed with the taste of salt and bitterness, piercing Bai Hui’s heart.

Bai Luo Luo asked, “Bai Hui, did you already know that I’m a radish…” Later, he realized that ginseng leaves and radish leaves were quite similar. A novice might be fooled, but Bai Hui, being experienced, could
not possibly overlook his true identity.

Bai Hui confirmed, “Yes, I knew it all along.”

Bai Luo Luo muttered, “Then why did you scare me…” He always thought he would be plucked from the ground and eaten.

Bai Hui replied, “I scared you? Well… if I did scare you, it’s probably because your trembling appearance was particularly cute.”

Bai Luo Luo sobbed, “You have no idea how scared I was…”

They reminisced about their first meeting, and Bai Hui jokingly claimed Bai Luo Luo was a “colorful radish.” Otherwise, how could he have run over with his legs covered in soil, even before transforming into a human?

Bai Luo Luo defended, “There was no soil on my legs… I made sure to clean them when I came out.”

Bai Hui chuckled and kissed Bai Luo Luo’s forehead, saying, “Alright, it’s almost dawn, let’s sleep.”

Bai Luo Luo said, “I can’t sleep.”

Bai Hui smiled at him.

Bai Luo Luo confessed, “Just the thought of you leaving makes me incredibly sad.”

Bai Hui assured, “I will come back.”

Bai Luo Luo showed a melancholic expression, asking, “Can’t I go with you?”

“No, you can’t,” Bai Hui said. “Promise me, stay obediently at home.”

Bai Luo Luo agreed, and as the day broke, he fell asleep in Bai Hui’s embrace. When he woke up again, the one holding him was nowhere to be seen.

The sect leader also bid farewell to Bai Hui, handing him a jug of wine and asking, “Why didn’t your radish come?”

Bai Hui explained, “He cried the whole night yesterday. I had to cast a calming spell to make him fall asleep.”

The sect leader chuckled, saying, “It’s like raising a child…”

Bai Hui smiled as well, took a sip of the wine, and praised, “Good wine.”

The sect leader remarked, “Of course, it’s good wine. Upon this parting, who knows when we’ll meet again.” Some return, while others never do. Every farewell carried extra weight because no one knew if it might be the
last.

Bai Hui said, “I will come back. Once I’ve killed that big demon, I’ll return and marry LuoLuo…” He couldn’t help but chuckle after saying this, realizing how much it sounded like a typical plot twist in novels and TV shows
where anyone making such promises usually meets an unfortunate fate.

Even the system in his mind, preoccupied with melon seeds, chimed in, saying, “Isn’t the effect of this statement similar to the one where I quit the escort mission and retire after the completion?” Bai Hui just
sighed.

Seeing Bai Hui somewhat distracted, the sect leader thought he was thinking about Bai Luo Luo and reassured, “You can rest assured; I’ll protect LuoLuo. No one dares to bully him.”

Bai Hui chuckled, “I’m just afraid he’ll bully others.”

While Bai Luo Luo had a relatively short cultivation time, his sharp intellect and rapid progress, combined with Bai Hui’s careful guidance, made him comparable to inner disciples in a short period.

“Is that so?” The sect leader thought Bai Hui was just being stubborn and didn’t take his words to heart. He said, “Anyway, I’ll keep an eye on him. You don’t need to worry about things here.”

Bai Hui nodded, gestured farewell to the sect leader, and then gracefully soared into the sky, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

The sect leader watched his departing figure and sighed softly.

At this moment, Bai Luo Luo was still in a dream, dreaming that Bai Hui was earnestly watering him. Bai Hui was already handsome, but when he was serious, it made people blush and their hearts race. Bai Luo Luo gazed at him, as if transported back to the beginning.

Bai Luo Luo got up from the bed, walked to the window, and looked towards the edge of the sky. As he touched the now cold bedding, he felt a bone-piercing coldness. He lay on the bed, suddenly remembering the clear
nightmare. Bai Hui flew away on the clouds, while he could only kneel on the ground, desperately begging him not to leave.

And in the dream, Bai Hui never looked back.

Bai Luo Luo climbed out of bed, went to the window, and looked toward the sky’s edge. He reached out and rubbed his eyes, his gaze filled with confusion. “still sleeping… why has it turned red?” Bai Luo Luo mumbled. The edge, supposed to be purple, of the demonic realm passage had now turned blood-red, as if the clouds were tainted with fresh blood. Bai Luo Luo even felt like he could see streaks of blood spreading within the clouds.

“Bai Hui.” Bai Luo Luo mumbled, “You must come back.”

The author has something to say:
Bai Luo Luo: I’m waiting for you to come back, watching the radish flowers
bloom~
Bai Hui: You’re being cheeky again.
Bai Luo Luo: ????
The author, seeing the distressed comments from yesterday, contorted in shape.
