‘Why was I born?’ Hela had asked herself this question many times.

She was born cursed.

A terrifying curse. One that brought death to anything close to her.

Her family, her friends, her pets, and even the plants and trees near her got sick and died just by being in her surroundings.

She could do nothing to change it. Regardless of her will, her curse brought demise and pain to anyone near her.

Everything she came in contact with withered. It was as though she was destined to be alone for eternity.

Since she was a child, she was forced to see how others watched her with fear. She was forced to witness the gaze of her mother looking at her as though she was looking at a monster. The way she murmured she was a demon still caused nightmares to Hela today.

But that was not the most painful part.

That pain could not compare to watching her father, the only person that never feared or margined her, slowly caving to her curse.

‘… Maybe God brought me to the world for some special purpose… Heh, who am I fooling? I should not have been born…’

Hela chuckled bitterly while looking at the slowly withering grass around her.

“Why are you laughing, monster?” The girl in front of her asked in disgust.

What was her name again? Hela did not remember.

She knew that she was a distant relative of hers, but that was everything she remembered. Well, it did not matter.

“I asked why are you laughing!” The girl cried out and kicked her stomach.

Hela groaned in pain and held her stomach with her two hands, but her face remained expressionless.

“Damned monster…!” The girl muttered under her breath with so much hatred that even the other two girls put on uncomfortable expressions.

“Hey Cynthia, don’t you think it’s too much?”

“Yeah, if she tells the teachers. we could be expulsed.”

“Shut up!” Cynthia snarled violently. “If you don’t want to help me, then get lost. But don’t interfere.” She then used her feet to stamp on Hela’s shoulder, throwing her against the ground.

“This bitch… It’s her fault that my little brother is in the hospital! This fucker ruined my brother's life!”

‘So that is the reason, huh…’ Hela’s dim black eyes showed understanding, her expressionless face showing a bit of guilt.

But she knew that her guilt was useless.

She could not change anything. And she could do nothing for the people she had harmed.

“She should be dead!” Cynthia growled and kicked her again, making Hela smile wryly in her mind despite the pain.

‘Yeah, I should.’

How many times did she wish she was dead?

If she died, then she did not need to endure this hellish life anymore, and nobody would be harmed by her curse.

She could not take her own life, though.

That would make her father sad.

‘I’m such a hypocrite.’ Hela chuckled again.

“Do you think it’s funny!?” Cynthia’s eyes turned red when she heard Hela chuckling again. “Fucking demon! I should kill you!”

Mana circled around Cynthia's body as she punched Hela’s left cheek.

Blood seeped out of Hela’s lips. But that was just the start.

Following the punch was a kick on her abdomen, and another on her back.

Every one of the attacks was filled with enough mana to gravely injure a normal human. Even so, Hela received them without resisting in any way.

Perhaps she was hoping that Cynthia’s incessant attacks finally bring an end to her cursed life.

Unfortunately, Cynthia’s attacks could only injure her at most.

Hela’s curse did not just snuff out the life of everything around her. No, it stole their life for herself.

Unless she was killed swiftly, almost any wound would heal before long.

Hela had witnessed it when she tried to cut her veins once.

Eventually, Cynthia got tired and stopped attacking.

Hela groaned and supported her body with her arms, sitting on the ground while wiping the blood off her lips.

Despite Cynthia’s heavy attacks, most of her wounds had already healed. Even though she seemed in a pitiful state and her clothes and hair were covered with dirt and blood, no trace of wounds remained on her skin.

“… Monster,” Cynthia muttered with hatred and fear. “Why can’t you just die?”

Hela did not reply. She just looked at the ground expressionlessly.

“You even dared to come to this place. What? Are you hoping to become a hero despite all the people you have harmed?”

‘… It’s not like that.’ Hela almost blurted out, but she stopped herself in the end.

The reason she came to Sanctuary’s First was that a doctor told her that maybe she could find a cure to her curse here.

This was her last trace of hope.

Unfortunately, it seemed that God did not want to grant her the slightest hope.

Not long after being admitted to the academy, she talked to several teachers about her condition, but all of them replied to her the same way.

[We can do nothing.]

Now, her only hope was the headmistress.

Maybe she knew a way to free her from her curse.

‘Yeah, that is impossible.’

She had already given up.

She was destined to live with this curse forever.

“You should just die. Die in some dirty alley and stop bringing misfortune to everyone.” Cynthia spat out with venom in her voice.

Hela’s shoulders trembled.

‘Yeah, I should just die.’

She laughed self-deprecatingly and closed her eyes.

That laughter reignited Cynthia’s anger.

“Fucking bitch! Just die!”

Mana gathered on her hand, filling her fist with mana as she swung it toward Hela’s face.

But at that moment, a voice sounded.

“Stop.”

The voice was frighteningly cold. Just hearing it made the four girls feel shivers in their spines.

It was accompanied by a powerful pressure that made Cynthia turn pale. Her body froze completely, and her eyes widened in fear.

She gazed in the direction of the voice trembling, only to see a black-haired young man walking slowly toward them.

“You should stop. Before I become angrier.”
