I thought he would be scared, but their reaction was unexpected.

“Stay by my side, lady.”

I looked at Siebel, who was standing next to me, and Madame Pauline.

Gulp. I swallowed my saliva.

I hid behind Madame Pauline’s skirt while the thieves weren’t looking at me. And while holding the edge of her skirt, I whispered.

“Teacher, they say they came from the temple.”

“…”

“We’re the easiest targets among these people. We’re weak and our parents will pay a ransom for us.”

So, we’ll be the easiest prey for them.

The nightmare-like incident where Lavigne was almost kidnapped came back to my mind. There was even a princess among our group. If they find out, we’re in big trouble.

“We’re orphans from the temple and today was our first outing. It’s a noble orphanage.”

I heard that such a facility exists. It’s an affiliated institution of the temple that only raises noble orphaned children. Madame Pauline understood what I was saying and nodded her head.

“It’s better if there are fewer of us. Separate yourselves quickly.”

Madame Pauline entrusted me to Siebel. It was a momentary judgment. She had noticed that Siebel and I knew each other.

“Don’t make me laugh! A white wizard? Do you believe those words?”

Someone suddenly appeared in front of the grumbling crowd. He was an old man who looked like he had a personality.

The wrinkled old man swung his cane and spoke.

“These scammers! Where did the guards who were guarding this room go? Don’t fuss. If they’re real white wizards, the palace won’t let you go! Open the door right now!”

I looked around. The door was firmly locked due to the men inside. Meanwhile, the nobles in luxurious attire were grumbling. I clenched my fist.

“Hoho, won’t you regret saying that to me?” Kien smirked and spoke.

“Yeah, then show me some evidence.”

Kien raised his hand.

“Kill one of them as an example. Choose one randomly. One of them will die within five minutes.”

“What did you say?”

Suddenly, anxiety spread among the people. I saw a lot of things in that short time.

Tick-tock. And the five minutes they declared passed.

“Oh my!”

“What in the world!”

People screamed in surprise. Suddenly, a man was staggering among them.

The well-dressed man was clearly a nobleman. He slowly approached the fountain.

“My body hurts, too much pain…”

People unknowingly stepped back. The man fell to the ground and crawled desperately.

“This is a curse. A curse… Oh, there’s a hole in my body. Help me… Help me.”

The man’s face became increasingly distorted.

‘That person is…’

I was so shocked that my hands trembled. No wonder… I recognized the man’s face.

‘It must be… that person…’

Viscount Yukler. The drunkard younger brother of Countess Bartoli. He was the one I saw in the house.

“Oh my!”

Yukler crawled and came right in front of me.

Splat.

Then Yukler’s movement gradually stopped. Blood slowly dripped from his nose. The smooth floor was stained.

“Ahhhh!”

“That’s impossible!”

Siebel squeezed Yukler’s pulse.

“He’s dead.”

People in the hall screamed.

“We’ve been cursed by white wizards!”

The woman across from me murmured. The man who had been shouting earlier couldn’t say anything.

‘That can’t be true.’

I wasn’t a fool.

There are many ways to kill a person in an instant, especially in this world.

‘The story is getting strange.’

This time, I wasn’t as shocked as before when I saw the corpse.

‘A group of thieves, a boy named Kien who believes in the religion of thief god, and people looking for a traitor… and the younger brother of the Countess’.’

It feels like puzzle pieces are scattered everywhere. But it wasn’t difficult to solve.

“Come over here and state your name and identity. One at a time. I will select hostages to take with us when we escape.”

Kien stepped onto the fountain and spoke. Despite being a young boy, he exuded an incredible presence.

‘I’m scared of that person.’

My eyebrows involuntarily furrowed.

I glanced at the people in the room.

‘Five kids from our class, Madam Pauline, and Mr. Siebel. Four adults I don’t know.’

My hands trembled.

Thump, thump, thump!

Suddenly, someone banged on the door.

“Open the door! What’s going on inside?”
