A faint glimmer of hope appeared in the people’s eyes.

‘It’s the guards!’

“Come here,” Kien whispered to me. He grabbed my arm and pulled me up. It didn’t hurt, but I tensed up.

The door opened.

“Don’t come any closer,” Kien spoke, and the knights looked at the faces of the children.

“If you approach recklessly, there will be more bodies.”

People’s eyes turned to the Yukler’s corpse, which had collapsed in an instant.

“It’s murder! There’s a body in there!”

The knights also discovered the corpse.

“Hey, throw the body,” Kien ordered.

The thieves threw the body of Viscount Yukler outside. The knights flinched and stepped back.

“These bastards!”

“Wait! There are children inside!”

The knights looked at us, but couldn’t approach the room. Kien smirked.

“Hmph, cowards.”

He had a cold expression.

“If anyone approaches, even one person, until I speak the next demand from here… I don’t know who I’ll kill next time.”

Bang!

And the door closed again.

‘What kind of suicide squad is this?’

Is this guy crazy?

No matter how crazy this world is, there are laws in this kingdom. Does he think he can hold a hostage drama without any measures and run away?

‘What are you doing believing in something? What do you want…’

Unless you’re really prepared to die.

At that moment, a memory I had seen in a dream came to mind.

“If you or any of your subordinates betray each other, everyone must die.”

Huh? No way.

When the door closed, Kien let me go. Our eyes met in the air.

“Stay still, I don’t intend to touch the kids.”

Kien chuckled and spoke. I froze and nodded my head.

“Yes.”

“Go over there and stay. Like those scared bastards.”

Kien pushed my shoulder and the drawn saber wrapped around me.

“Are you okay?”

Siebel asked. I nodded my head.

The ‘identity inspection’ that the hostages had announced would start soon. The frightened hostages had to come forward one by one and reveal their identities.

“Don’t touch her!”

“Don’t push me! I’ll do as you say!”

The first couple to be singled out were a man and a woman.

“I am the daughter of a household that runs a business in the harbor. This person is my fiancé.”

“I am the accountant for that household.”

“Both of you state your names.”

The man’s name in the couple was Will, and the woman’s name was Lira.

‘Will and Lira. They look like false identities.’

I clenched my lips. If someone was invited to the grand exhibition hall, they were not just anyone. At least they were nobles.

‘Everyone is hiding their identities. Of course.’

They pushed Lira aside and interrogated Will for a long time. They even searched his body under the pretext of searching for weapons.

Next was me and Siebel.

“You’re a good girl, my younger sister Leticia. Come here. Be quiet.”

Siebel lifted me up in his arms.

Siebel changed his tone and whispered to me. I blinked. Did Mr. Siebel have this side?

“Brother, I’m scared.”

For now, I had to act as a naive younger sister. That was my role for now. The thieves (or whoever they were) flinched when they saw me.

‘Do they feel guilty about tormenting a child?’

If so, they were shameless. They were already criminals who had committed the crime.

Kien looked down at me.

“State your identity.”

“I am a scholar at the academy. My name is Barhan, and this is my younger sister.”

Siebel comforted me and gave a pseudonym.

“You come over here.”

Kien snapped his fingers. Siebel’s interrogation continued for a while.

‘Why are only men being interrogated for so long?’

I remembered a conversation I overheard in the room where my portrait (or whatever it was) was hung earlier.

“…We can’t fail! Find the traitor and kill him.”

‘These people are trying to find a traitor, and he’s an adult man.’

I bit my lip. Slowly the pieces of the puzzle come closer.
