Seibel returned to me after a while.

“Are you okay, lady?”

“Yes. I…”

I nodded.

Fortunately, they didn’t seem to care about the rest of the hostages. We took advantage of that and escaped.

“Next, you! Name yourself!”

The person the robber was interrogating was a young man named Dale.

He was wearing clothes that were all navy blue and introduced himself as working at a library.

He kept nervously grabbing and letting go of his belted waist.

“A librarian? That’s a plausible story.”

The robber berated him for a while.

Taking advantage of the distraction, I whispered to Seibel again.

“How was it?”

“They searched my body thoroughly. I thought they were going to strip me down.”

“…Were they looking for weapons?”

“No, they seemed to be suspicious that I had something on me.”

Seibel barely moved his lips as he hugged me and pretended to comfort me.

He’s really skilled at this.

‘These people’s goal is not just to hold us hostage, I’m sure of it.’

I observed them carefully.

’f these people are the same thieves who broke into the Countess’s house…’

“Ten or so of them stormed in and stole all the jewels,” said the Countess’s butler.

There are about ten thieves here now, which roughly matches the butler’s testimony.

And the first person to die here was…

‘The Countess’s younger brother, Viscount Yukler.’

A puzzle piece clicks into place.

It feels like I can hear the sound of a piece fitting together perfectly.

‘Right. It’s clear. These are the thieves who stole Countess Bartoli’s jewels.’

What if there are people and things that these thieves are searching for?

‘Obviously. If there are traitors among the thieves, there’s a possibility they stole the items. So… what they are searching for is the Countess Bartoli’s jewels.’

“Why are these people doing this?”

At that moment, Siebel whispered to me again.

“Do you believe these people are wizards?”

Why did that question suddenly come up?

I glanced towards the thieves and shook my head..

“I don’t think so. If they were wizards, they would use magic. Why would they resort to threatening us?”

Siebel nodded in agreement.

“Based on what we overheard earlier, these people seem to be searching for traitors, right?”

“Yes.”

“Shall we find the traitor before them?”

Siebel’s face remained unchanged as he spoke, but my eyebrows furrowed in disbelief.

“What?”

“Think of it like an interesting game, just like in my laboratory. It won’t be a terrible experience, but a fun one. That way, we won’t be emotionally scarred.”

Is he doing this for my sake? I appreciate it, but his thought process is somewhat creepy.

Next in line for interrogation was the man who caused the commotion earlier. He introduced himself as Charon.

“What are you guys talking about over there?”

Kien, who was leading Charon, noticed our conversation and growled.

“Stand up right now.”

Siebel stood up with both hands raised, and I tensed up.

‘If anything, I have my magic bullet gun…’

No one would expect a gun to be in a teddy bear bag.”

I tightly held onto the strap of my bag as I turned it around my body.

“Don’t even try anything silly.”

“Ugh!”

Kien approached me with a stride and lifted me up.

“Ah!”

I was surprised.

“Do you want me to throw you into the fountain, huh?”

After setting me down on the fountain, Kien lifted my chin.

Is he really going to throw me in? I don’t want to look like a wet rat.

The transparent water flowed gently, revealing the bottom.

And then-

I widened my eyes.

Wait, what is this? It looks familiar from somewhere…
