When Li Xiqing started to walk away, Shao Yan quickly walk to the opposite side of the road. Earlier, she had seen a small road stall that was opened by a local temple.

Shao Yan remembered that when Li Xiqing gifted her the cherub necklace a few months ago, she had not gotten the chance to give anything back to him. So when they just entered the night market earlier, Shao Yan saw the drawn map that the drink stalls were located at the very end of the market.

So she would have enough time to get something for him.

.....

It was a very modest stall compared to the other stalls next to it.

Other stalls were decorated with colorful banners or multiple lanterns were hung around it. But this stall was only a simple wooden structure with black ink calligraphy written on the wooden arch. One solemn monk was standing behind the table, and ignored all the people around him.

He was focusing on reading a book on his hands.

A plain white and black robe blanketed his frail figure. Shao Yan deduced he would be around fifty years old. His face had shown some wrinkles that had formed due to the hardship of the world. Or maybe they were evidence of the wise thinking of the goodness of people.

Shao Yan approached the table, and started to look around the items displayed on the table.

Small pouches were lined up on the most right of the table; about the size of a coin. They were lucky charms in a shape of colorful pouches. Each color had a number pasted on it, and then she saw there was a piece of paper on the side that gave explanation of what the numbers were for. There were charms for happiness, study, work, road safety, family, love, and others.

On the middle of the table were prayer beads; also in different colors, similar to the lucky charm.

And on the most left of the table were booklets of prayers and also handmade bookmarks made from dried maple leaves. Each item had a price tag on it, and there was a donation box placed at the corner of the table for people to put the money.

Shao Yan was looking around the items on the table, and the monk was still reading on his own, did not pay a single attention at her.

.....

After a while, she finally set her mind on two different charms; work and road safety.

Li Xiqing was busy with L Corporation lately, and he would need to travel to many different places. Shao Yan's only wish for him was to be able to keep him safe every time.

She took out her purse and started to shift around for money. As Shao Yan reached out her hands to put the money into the box, suddenly the monk stirred in his seat; surprising her.

The monk raised up to his feet, and then he put down the book in his hands.

He did a little stretch, before he lifted up his face and looked at Shao Yan straight in her eyes. Shao Yan was surprised at the sudden turn of event; she almost dropped the lucky charms in her hands.

The monk walked over, and looked at the charms that she was holding so tightly in her palms. He lifted his head and scrutinized her expression.

Both of them did not say anything for a while and just looked at each other.

"Work and travel are good. But happiness and family are more important," his soft, quiet voice suddenly traveled to her ears, "Live a life worth living; stop looking back if you have decided to look ahead. You decide your own path of happiness."

After he said that, he took the charms from her hands, and replaced them with the charms for happiness and family, "You have enough regrets in your life, the road ahead is not smooth, but always cherish the flower you have in your hand right now." The monk covered her hands with his skinny hands for a few seconds, before he patted the back of her hands.

And then he turned to the side, and gave Shao Yan a bookmark made from a cherry blossom flower that had a black ink calligraphy on the side that spelled, "Love Life".

.....

Shao Yan, who was still standing on the line while ordering her takoyaki, turned to the side when someone patted her shoulders.

She saw Li Xiqing carried two cups of hot drinks in his hands, "What took you so long?"

She had bought the lucky charms and even stood in line to get the food, but Li Xiqing had just came back.

"The drink stalls are at the end of the market, and there are so many people there. Have you been waiting for long?"

He looked at her face in worry, and handed a cup to her, so Shao Yan could take a sip.

She shook her head to the side, "This stall must be good; it attracts a lot of people tonight," she received the drink from him, and clasped both of her hands around the warm cup.

Li Xiqing then put his broad palm behind her back and slowly guided her to the side, and he replaced her spot to stand in the line, "I can go wait in line. Go walk around and see what other stuffs that they have here," his hand was still sitting at her waist, holding her close to him.

Shao Yan snuggled closer to him. She tilted her head to the side, contemplating his suggestions for a while, and then she shook her head, "No, I think I'm good. I don't want to walk around alone anyway. It is more fun to walk with you by my side," she beamed at Li Xiqing and then a lazy grin escaped her lips.

He returned her smile with the same warmth, and then he tilted his head slightly down towards her, and kissed her forehead.
