Chapter 149: Like A Child

"Are you comfortable?"
Li Xiqing asked her as he brushed her hair gently, his fingers then twirled the tips of her hair, while looking at her beautiful face that had slight pinkish blush on her cheek.
He had one hand playing with her hair, while his other hand was placed somewhere above her face; creating a shadow and acted like a shade. His broad palm shielded her fair skin from the sun.
Shao Yan was laying down on top of the rock, with her head on his thighs; he had covered her legs with a soft blanket. Yan Yan had her eyes closed and she put her clasped hands on her tummy.
When she heard his voice, she opened her eyes and tilted her head up to meet his gaze.
"Xiqing, I still feel it's not right."
He slightly furrowed his eyebrows, unable to understand what she meant by suddenly saying that. Before Li Xiqing got the chance to ask more, Yan Yan had continued to say.
"Look at other couples around us. It was the men who are laying down and sleep on the women's lap. Not the other way around like us!"
His lips gradually curved up, as he stroked her cheek while saying, "Why do you have to care what others are doing? As long as you're happy, that's all that matters," he paused, and then remembering the snacks that they had brought along, Li Xiqing asked again, "Let's eat the rice ball first, and then we will go down to the stream."
He patted her tummy, "Let's get you full first before we play around, alright? The wind is pretty strong here, I don't want you to catch a cold."
Shao Yan swatted his hand and feigned an anger, "Stop treating me as a kid," her lips were pouted but her eyes were glittering mischievously. The combination made her adorably cuter.

Shao Yan slowly risen up, and reached out for the bulky backpack that he had put to the side.
The ryokan lady had prepared some rice balls, hot drinks and also rice crackers to accompany them on this short trip.
Shao Yan took out the food, and started to open the packaging and handed over one for Li Xiqing, "I have an idea for tonight," and then she took out another rice ball, and started to open one for herself, "I want to eat Shabu Shabu."
Li Xiqing was about to bite the rice ball, but he couldn't help but chuckle, "We just had lunch and now we're snacking but you are already thinking about dinner?" He reached out his palm to pat her head, while thinking.
All that his adorable wife could think of right now is probably all the amazing Japanese food that she wants to try. Li Xiqing unconsciously rubbed her head lovingly.
'It seems that I have pampered you too much,' he shook his head helplessly while promising, 'that is fine, wifey, I'll just have to increase the exercise then.'
And he patted her head again.
Shao Yan looked up at him with her cheeks full of food. Her big round eyes showed confusion, as to why Li Xiqing kept patting her head and smiled foolishly.

They played around the waterfall area for the rest of the day.
Shao Yan tried to avoid getting into the water because she didn't bring any change of clothes. So they only played around the river bank and some small streams.
As the night got closer, the couple started to head back to the ryokan; taking the same public bus that they had taken this morning. When the bus passed by a crowded area, Shao Yan saw that there was a night festival.
She poked Li Xiqing on his upper arm, "Let's alight here and visit the night market?" And then she pointed her chin to her left, "There should be a lot of things to eat and see there!"
Li Xiqing quickly pressed the button to notify the driver that they wanted to alight here.
He grabbed Shao Yan by her hand, and they quickly walked to the exit.

"Didn't you say that you want to eat Shabu Shabu for dinner? Why does it change now?"
Li Xiqing asked Yan Yan once they stepped out of the bus. She looked up at him and grinned, "Well, I did think about Shabu Shabu because, you know, cold weather and hot soup blend well together," she tried to argue her statement earlier.
She swung their linked hands, "But then when I saw the lights and the crowd, I got to think that the night market may be more fun," and then she shrugged.
He laughed and they started to walk to the market entrance.
Multiple colorful paper lanterns were hung above them; each of the lanterns were written with unique auspicious words in beautiful calligraphy.
Shao Yan admired the strokes of each letter, with Li Xiqing patiently guiding her way.
As this was a small town, the crowd was not as bad as what she had expected.
A lot of parents with young children ran around the area, but they still behaved in order. Shao Yan curiously looked to the left and then to the right. She did not want to miss anything.
Li Xiqing pointed to a takoyaki squid ball stand, "Do you want to try that?"
Yan Yan saw that there were only a few people who waited in the line, so she nodded her head, "Sure, let's go. I can go by myself, why don't you go and get us something to drink?"
Li Xiqing turned his head back to the food stand, and then he looked at its surrounding. Feeling that it was safe enough, he nodded his head saying yes, "Alright, let me find some hot tea, and you can buy the food. I will meet you right here, so don't wander around after you got the food, alright?"
Shao Yan rolled her eyes, and then she grabbed both of his arms, turned his body around and patted his shoulders, "Stop. Treating. Me. Like a child, Xiqing~" she wailed and protested while pushing his body forward for him to start walking.
