Chapter 158: Grocery Night

Shao Yan spent the next thirty minutes trying to find the items that Li Xiqing had noted down.
This was a fairly new shopping center and she had never been here before, so Shao Yan was not familiar with the shelves arrangements.
After walking for a while, she finally found the produce area. Shao Yan quickly pushed the cart over and started to look for potatoes and carrots. Just as she was about to start walking again, her phone rang.
"Yan Yan, where are you?"
Li Xiqing had parked the car and was looking for Shao Yan. He was initially planning to walk around but he underestimated how big the supermarket was, so he figured, calling Yan Yan would be faster.
"Oh! I'm at the produce area, all the way at the back," she turned her head to the left and right, trying to locate his tall figure.
Li Xiqing voiced his acknowledgement, "Alright I know. Just stay put, I'm on the way."

After a while, Shao Yan was choosing some tomatoes, when a broad palm was placed behind her back. Shao Yan turned her head around, and saw Li Xiqing was smiling at her, "Having fun?"
Shao Yan returned his smile, "This place is so huge, it took me a while to find the ingredients you need," and then she pointed to the cart, "I only managed to find potatoes and carrots. But look here, very pretty tomatoes," and she lifted the two tomatoes in her hands up for Li Xiqing to see.
Li Xiqing saw the smooth, round tomatoes and then looked into her eyes, "Uh. Okay? What about them?"
Shao Yan looked at him speechless; and then she puffed her cheek, "What do you think?" She pouted at him, "Why am I holding tomatoes, Li Xiqing?"
He was amused at her response. Initially, he only wanted to tease her, but she was sulking now. So he pursed his lips, trying not to laugh, "Let me guess. This is you hinting me that you want scrambled eggs with tomatoes?"
Shao Yan broke out into a grin and nodded her head. And then she put the tomatoes back into a clear plastic bag, and put it inside the cart. She hooked her arm around Li Xiqing's elbow, "So smart! I want to eat that tomorrow for breakfast, alright?" She said as she tilted her head and peeked at him.
Li Xiqing looked down, and his body started to shake and he laughed out loud.
He lifted his hand and patted her head while saying, "Young madam's wish shall be my command."

"Why are you buying this?"
He took out a bag of potato chips that Shao Yan had just put into the cart.
Shao Yan gave him a side-eye, and grabbed the bag from his hand, "I want to eat it later," and then she dumped it back to the cart. His eyes kept following the bag, and then Li Xiqing took it out again, "No, there is too much MSG in here, not healthy for you."
Shao Yan quickly grabbed the bag back from his hands, "No, I'll just eat a little, I promise," her eyes showed a glittered determination.
Li Xiqing crossed his arms in front of him, "Why don't we do this," he's trying to negotiate, "let's not buy that, and instead, I'll make a healthy snack for you which I promise you will love. Alright?"
Seeing that she did not respond, he said slowly, "The famous chickpea fritters you found in 30th street in New York, remember that?" And then Li Xiqing saw that Yan Yan's eyes widened and she gave him an ingratiating smile, "Yes. Alright. It's a deal."
Shao Yan walked over to the shelves and put the chips back, and then she started to walk onwards, leaving Li Xiqing behind.
He followed behind her while pushing the cart, and smiling widely.

The crowd after working hours were a lot, and after they had completed their grocery shopping, it was almost 9PM. Li Xiqing and Shao Yan walked out to an open area of eatery, and he decided to just eat there to save time.
The area had around nine to ten food stalls that sold different kinds of food. Dinner crowd was a decent pack, and they were able to find a seat immediately.
"It's getting late now. Let's just eat here," Li Xiqing said as he parked the shopping cart next to their table.
Shao Yan nodded, "You can go first, and I'll get my food later."
Li Xiqing slowly scanned the surrounding area and at the same time trying to weigh in the different options, "I'll get one for you too. What do you feel like eating now?"
Shao Yan was also looking at the food stalls, and pondered for a while. And then she finally said, "Hm, why don't we get one beef noodle soup, one chicken potstickers and one seafood pasta?" she turned her face around to look at him while grinning, "I can't decide if I want beef noodle soup or pasta, so why don't we get both?"
Li Xiqing nodded at her suggestions, "Sure, we can do that," and then he lifted one hand and with his index fingertips, he poked Shao Yan on her cheek, "Somehow I already had a feeling that you would end up ordering those two," and then he pointed to the cart, "just stay here with the groceries, I'll get the food."
And then he walked away while smiling. But when he was out of Shao Yan's sight, his smile dimmed a little, as his eyebrows were scrunched tightly.
'Dammit, that fly just had to stick around, huh?' he cursed inwardly.
Just now, as he scanned the area, Li Xiqing saw a familiar face. He had a bad feeling about it, so he told Shao Yan to just stay put with their cart.
He started to walk faster to the food stalls, while thinking, 'I should hurry and get the food, before the fly disturb our peaceful night.'
